I've pulled this one from my archives. Taken with the XR Rikenon 1:4 200mm, a manual lens, so long ago I cannot remember the F-stop used, but it would have been f/16 or higher.

Thank you for that. I've ordered a long plate for under $10 that is now coming to me on a slow boat from China (literally) So I will be able to rig up something for better stabilization. Until then I will just play around a bit. I put this on my KS-2 today and was able to get a shot with light at a better angle. I think I'm going to like this lens once I master it: Heron on rail Adjusted by Sean O'Connell, on Flickr
Thanks for everyone's comments and feedback!

Sorry folks - I'm out for a bit. I picked up a second job (part time - on top of my full time+ current job) so I can get my foot in the door with the company I've been wanting to work for for years. I'll be back at some point, but for now I need to focus on this transition. Happy shooting everyone!

In. Despite work I seem to be finding the time to keep up most months. I think I have only missed two days in 14 months, so I'm not going to beat myself up if I miss a day here or there. I did join Flickr's "Macro Monday" and "Crazy Tuesday" groups. They are helping me with image inspiration - so expect a lot more macros from me this month - well more than normal since I have never shied away from macros. I'm still struggling to get comments out to you fine folks however, and I will endeavor to do better in the coming months. Keep on shooting.

It may be spotty, but I'll poke my head in as much as I can. Stay safe out there everyone.

Fell behind with posting, but caught up today (with a bit of cheating). I work on the front lines in health care and one of the departments I oversee is housekeeping. The days are very long and tense right now. So far our team has done a good job at keeping things at bay, but staff are dropping like flies and I can't hire fast enough to replace them. It all leaves little time for time for post processing. If I drop off of a bit I'm probably just too tired to process and post anything.
We're in for the long haul, but I'm optimistic we will all come out the other side. I'm glad to see that most people here are staying safe - keep that up.

Somehow I managed to catch up on my February postings, so I'm in until I can't keep up anymore.
On another note - we can now all forget how to spell February again for another year :-) I swear I need to relearn how to spell it every time it comes around.

- I'm with Rob. I will have been at this one year now. I've learned a lot, and I still have more to learn, but I find myself toying with the idea of taking a breather and taking less photos. Maybe it's the combination of the short days and short weekends wearing on me. Let's see how we do......

My first day with the lens, and yes I will need to do something to stabilize it for sure as my keeper rate was very low - even on the tripod. Heavy is an understatement! My post processing program is having a hard time dealing with the fringing (though it was very sunny and I was shooting into the sun - it should be less noticeable with better lighting.) Here are first set of keepers from the lens tests. Three Ducks by Sean O'Connell, on Flickr
and Two Ducks by Sean O'Connell, on Flickr
and Moon with Tamron 200-500mm by Sean O'Connell, on Flickr
No where near as nice as some of the other images here, but I think this lens will take a bit of practice to master - especially with the razor thin depth of field at the long end.
A question for those who have used the lens before. Mine came with the 'normal' 43mm filter installed in the lens (none of the others came with it). Has anyone tried shooting without the filter, and if so, are the results much different?
Thanks!

Must keep going..... One more month to make the one year mark!
My version does just fine on the K-S2. As others have said, check the focus calibration or look into warranty/service. Pentax quality control should not be so shoddy that your copy of the lens cannot get a good keeper rate. There is a flicker group dedicated to this lens that show numerous quality images at Flickr: The PENTAX-DA 18-135mm F3.5-5.6 ED AL [IF] DC WR Pool
The 100 macro has already been mentioned - it's one of my favorites and certainly gets my vote, but don't overlook the host of legacy lens out there - so much to choose from. There are some high quality F & FA lens that can be found at second hand & pawn shops for well under value if you know what to look for, as well as keeping an eye open in your local buy, sell & trade sites. I've picked up several lenses this way and it's worth the time if you are on a budget.
I would love to do more than one challenge at a time, but I can't keep up on comments for people's images in this group, so until I can do that I will probably stick with a single daily in!
Looking forward to seeing everyone's images next month.

I'm in. I do want to sincerely apologize for not having the time time to post comments and thank yous. I am hoping things will lighten up at my end in the next month so I can be a bit more active again. Regardless, I'm committed to shooting and posting. Know that all the comments are appreciated at my end - even if I have not had time to reciprocate.

Apologies for my lack of comments thorough the month of June - not sure how it is I have less time when I am off work for a couple weeks.....

I think I have to admit to myself that I am just too far behind in the comments to catch up! My apologies to all. I'm going to have to wipe the slate clean for April and start on the May images at this point.

We're at the tail end of winter here, and I am amazed at plants, or rather, what still remains of plants from previous seasons. Won't be long before I will be seeing these green and white again.... still here by Sean O'Connell, on Flickr
