New lens has arrived and has a smooth manual focussing action. Much relieved. The old one was clearly faulty. Thanks again to SRS for a no fuss replacement.

Hi Mike, I have the HD model. Ironically I traded in my old SMC model for this one....

I am happy to say that SRS Microsystems have offered a new replacement. I cannot fault their service. I did take the precaution of reporting the problem to them almost immediately after purchase and with their agreement waited to see if the problem would rectify itself with continued use. It did not and after 6 months took it back for repair, which has not been entirely successful and so are now replacing it. They arrange collection and delivery at no charge, so I cannot complain.
My issue is more with Pentax (Ricoh) themselves who are suggesting that this is a normal 'feel'

I purchased this new lens last year and immediately noticed a grittiness and stick points at 9 or 10 positions whilst rotating the focus ring manually. It was sent back for repair under warranty to be returned with the same problem albeit less pronounced. The supplier in the UK has been very responsive and has agreed with no quibble to replace it - a shout out here for SRS Microsystems in the UK. However they have said that Pentax claim it to be a 'normal feature' - surely not. It is really annoying when doing precise macro using manual focussing.
Anyone else had this problem?

Thank you Adam for facilitating this competition and many thanks to Ian Vernon for his generosity in donating the great prizes

I'm excited to take part in my first competition on PentaxForums. As a dedicated Pentaxian since the purchase of my K20D in 2008, and my graduation to the K1-II and recent upgrade from the K3-II to a K3-III. I just love these 2 cameras and am on a journey to try to learn and exploit all their fantastic capabilities, and hopefully improve my photography on the way of course (a never ending journey).

Regardless of the vote I hope some readers will enjoy this photo as much as I did taking it.

Not sure if I have included all the EXIF data needed, I am somewhat a newbie to this. Please let me know if anything has been missed.

Thanks to all contributions, fascinating to have his combination of expert knowledge and expereince to draw on. My overall take out is that apart from 2 of my current APS-C lenses, the sigma 10-20 and pentax 16-85, all others will give acceptable results, or even great results as shown my norrmhead. I am a bit perplexed about why sigma would need to modify my 150-500 mount for a K1 since the mount is the same as the K3 II (unless my ignorance is showing.........again).
So I do remain tempted to make the upgrade and in time get 1 or 2 of the FF lenses recommended.
Just loving the pentaxian community, thanks again.

Wow, as a response to my first ever post on this forum I am so grateful (actually blown away) for all of your constructive advice. So thank you all ! The links included in some replies will serve for further research.

For the record current lens 'stock' is: Sigma 'Ex' 10-20mm 1:3.5 DC HSM, HD Pentax-DA 1:3.5-5.6 16-85mm ED DC WR, HD Pentax-DA 1:4.5-6.3 55-300mm ED PLM WR RE, SMC Pentax-D FA 100mm 1:2.8 100mm Macro, Sigma DG 1:5-6.3 150-500mm APO HSM, HD Pentax-DA 1.4x AW Rear Converter.

So as you se I'm heavily invested already and replacement will carry heavy cost. Having watched many YouTube videos of my favourite photographers I guess my best future 'investment' ought be in honing my skills, and resisting the FF urge.

I currently own the K3-II and a range of 5, Sigma and Pentax lenses. In looking to the possibility of upgrading to the K1-II, I am concerned about the potential loss of image quality using my current APS-C lens stock. The K1-II brochure suggest that its FF sensor will be automatically cropped to cope with these lenses using an effective resolution of 15.36 megapixels, compared to the 24.32 sensor on the K3-II.
Since I will only upgrade my lens stock slowly, over a few years, will my continued use of APS-C lenses on the K1-II and the resulting loss of pixels result in a noticeable loss of image quality ?
I mainly shoot landscape and birds.
