Advice for the DFA150-450mm ?

Am unable to address all the Qns but will address what i am able to.

1) i use the 15450 with K33 mostly (and before that, with K1).
(Note, in order to shorten it a bit, i term the lens as "15450").

2) i use it handheld, all the time.
Ever tried using with Monopod.
Simply too much of a hassle.

3) no Peak Design this or whatever.
Just hold it via the tripod foot.
Honestly, you will get used to the weight in very short time.

People 'Gal in Pentax 101 polo tee'

Although i pick 'People' for the 'Category', this image really is more about the polo tee the gal has on AND also about the evergreen legend of a Pentax lens, the F*300.

2 or 3 years back (cannot recall), group of us Pentax users in Singapore decided to do up a polo tee to commemorate 101yrs of Pentax.

One of the more design-minded among us came up with this design, with the AOCO crest at left front [AOCO = Asahi Optical] and a "Pentax 101" at the back.

Back then we hired a model for a shoot, with the polo tee as the attire.

This image was my effort back then (this is a slightly cropped image).

Honestly, cuz it is a film image, and i do not keep details of exposures, i have No idea as to what actually was the shutter speed and aperture.

But i do remember it was snapped with the F*300 [cuz that day i was using only the F*300 and the FA77), was either f4.5 or f5.6, mounted on the MZ-S, with Kodak Portra160, snapped in Aperture Priority mode.

The creamy background you see is the natural rendition of the background by the F*300.
No Topaz or whatever applied.

To say the F*300 is one hell of a lens, is not exaggerating.

It is one of a kind special lens with Pixie dust magic.
They just don't come up with lenses like that anymore.

Hope you guys enjoy the image.

This was with the MZ-S, FA77 and Portra400.

I deliberately wanted this angle, to see how it will turn up. Love it.

post here two of same image.

The colour-image is the original, as this image is from Portra400 (snapped with FA77).

Other than cropping and small adjustments on some parameters using just SnapSeed on cellphone, nothing else elaborate was used.

The black-white image came about via exploring turning the colour-image into bnw using just the phone's default image processing app.
I actually prefer the BnW version :)

Hi everyone.

Just wanted to share images of this very versatile model (Trista) that i engaged for photoshoots recently.

I find her very versatile, like a chameleon. She can pull it off with different kinds of attire, settings, moods etc.

All these images are film images.

In order to be as accurate as i can in my recollection of the information, i will post the images one by one, over some time, and elaborate on what was done on the images.

For all the shoots with Trista, i used the Pentax MZ-S, with either the FA77 or FA43.

The films used include Kodak Portra160, Portra400 and TMax400.

Call me odd, but i dislike capturing people images using digital.
Much prefer film.
I am unable to explain it, but film gives me that "feel" that i somehow just do not get it with digital.

I hope you all will like the images shared here, and maybe pique your interest to give film a try as well.

Hmmmmm.

1) the FTZ and FTZ2 adapters are actually fine as they are.
Fact that Nikon actually did a FTZ2 is quite something. They could have just came up with the FTZ and that's it.
And thats why am quite impressed that Sony even did up to LA-EA5.

2) sex sells (and in this case, "sexy sells").

And "sexy" in this case means, the latest greatest most fanciful.

Cameras need to be sold.
Stores / shops need to sell cameras and lenses (else they don't make profit and will struggle to exist).

In current day situation, that means they need to sell to whoever is stepping into "enthusiast photography" for the first time, and they need to sell the latest greatest most fanciful to these newbies.

Nevermind that these newbies, 80% end up being enthusiastic for the first 6 to 12 months, perhaps 18 to 24 months max), and then, that's it. The gear gets chucked into dry cabinets and sits in there unused for yonks and then Later gets sold as preowned gear.

I do honestly think it might be asking for too much to have them produce adapter that can adapt AF-D lenses to Z bodies as well.

As for the Qn on K-1, D850 etc.

I use D850 and K-1

The K-1 has MUCH superior thought given to its design.

With the K-1, pretty much can just use my left palm and that's it.

That's why i can never understand why Nikon persisted with their stupid design of an entire column of buttons on the left-side of the cam body (for that range of cams).

What sets K-1 apart from D850?
(1) superior design. Proper thought and consideration given to placement of buttons etc.
Nikon is absolutely dumbass poor on this aspect.

2) extremely easy to understand and grasp and navigate the Pentax menu system.
I am not kidding.
My first Pentax digital body is K-1.
I did not have any prior experience with the others.
When i first got the K-1 (about 4-5 yrs ago), i really did not have to check up on any instruction manual and i could figure it around, the menu.

Nikon?
Let's not even get started.

If i give Pentax menu a score of 9/10 for ease of understanding, grasping and using.
Nikon will be a 3/10

3) the K-1's implementation of that Lunar struts screen.
That is absolute genius.
D850?
Doesn't even come 10feet close.

i am on TAV, forever and ever, amen.
(Upper iso limit is iso1600)

The way Pentax's TAV mode is, i will never ever bother using anything else.

The way Nikon goes about its equivalent of TAV mode is just so bloody difficult to understand (to me), it is very frustrating.

The way Pentax does it, its so very simple, it is like MAGIC.

some shots of the Malayan water monitor lizard.

All snapped with the K33 and DFA 150-450 combo.

At Berlayer Creek, Singapore.

i like the one where the small-sized one is flat on the wood railing.
Seems to be saying "ooo, i am flat-out tired".

You can read more on this monitor lizard here >>

"I had a KP but sold it as it was too close to the K3III in performance"

This, cannot hold water.
KP too close to the K3III in performance"??

Maybe a KP mkiii might be "too close to the K3III in performance".

cuz the KP as it is, nowhere near a K3III in performance.

(I do use a KP and a K3III. and nope, they are nowhere even near in performance).

One of the many migratory birds that visit Singapore.

Aperture was between f6.3 to f7.1
SS between 1/500, 1/640.

ISO, though i indicated it as iso1250, that's because i always use TAV mode and i restrict iso upper limit to iso1250.

If it had been a situation where i did not restrict it to iso1250 and perhaps set the upper limit at iso6400, these images likely will have been in the range between iso4000 to 6400 (just my rough guess).

But it does say something.
Though i restrict it to iso1250, after snapping them in RAW-DNG, then using the Pentax in-camera processing to get the jpegs, followed by some mild adjustments on Snapseed Mobile, the images still come up pretty ok even though the RAW-DNGs were pretty underexposed.

Says much about Pentax prowess on image quality.

Wanted to snap this to show "reflection" on calm waters.

was difficult to get the "white" colour of the flower correctly exposed. Hope this is an "ok effort".

Cropped much. But no problems for the DFA 150450 on K33.

having tried Nikon's AF Tracking (AFT) on a few Nikon bodies, such as D7500, D750, D500 and D850 (and even the far less advanced Df), i am not convinced the K3iii's AFT could actually match Nikon's AFT (on the D500) or even come near to 90% of what the D500 could do.

(And yes, i do use K3iii).

But, don't get me wrong.
The K3iii's AFC and AFT is really vastly improved over every other Pentax DSLR hitherto.
It really is.

And for the first time the AFT does work.

But, anyway, to each their own and their own preferences and interpretation.

So long as shoot and happy with shooting.
