Wow. You’ve had a very busy year. Thinking about how much you accomplished makes me tired. As always your work is fantastic, made even more impressive by the great images your repaired cameras produce.

Apparently Randy Johnson is a Pentaxian. For those not familiar with Randy Johnson he was an American baseball pitcher. Standing 6'10" he was intimidating, a tremendous competitor and a very hard thrower who stuck out a lot of batters. Second only to the great Nolan Ryan in career strikeouts, he was dominant.
I guess he's a pretty good photographer too and apparently a hard rock/metal head.
Here's his website. On he "about" section is a picture of "the Big Unit" with a Pentax 67 around his neck. Concerts – Randy Johnson Photography
Hos logo appears to be a dead bird. I assume that's reference to the time he was throwing a pitch when an unfortunate bird flew in front of the batter and exploded into a puff of feathers. The video is not hard to find if you are interested.

Very nice. You said Rodinal may not have been a good choice. What are you going to try next?
I’ve only developed b&w with Rodinal (stand developed) but not entirely happy with the results and more grain than I’d like. Also shooting primarily cheap films like Kentmere btw.

Sorry about you father.
Please keep up the great work. I’m always so impressed by your work in saving these cameras most would consider a lost cause.

Very nice. I recently purchased an O-GPS1. I don't suppose I could shoot at 6400 iso with my K-70 and get such a result.

Could you use Image Sync software on an iPad, lock the screen and turn it upside down?

I’m very close to buying one new too. Seems like they used to come up for sale frequently in the very low $300s but haven’t seen one in that range for a while. Adorama has it for $50 off currently bringing it just under $400.
Just ordered a used O-GPS1 from Adorama for a pretty good price.

Amazing job as always. Despite the light leak those are impressive images from an ancient thrift store camera.

From their review: “However, there are some clever features, including digital filters, in-camera HDR, multiple exposure, interval shooting and interval composite modes. The K-3 III may look dated in its physical features, but there’s still a lot to experiment with.”
I really have no idea what other manufacturers have going on but found it interesting that they seemed impressed with features that I believe the K-70 has despite some people feeling that the K-70 is getting long in the tooth.
The K-3iii seems like a great camera. My only issue would be the price. On the other hand it makes the K-1 seem more within my reach of I choose to ever step up from the K-70.

Just acquired a P30t myself recently. Got it as part of a collection of stuff being sold off by a nice German gentleman living in California but about to retire and travel the world in an RV. So the LXs had to go along with the P30. It came with a roll of film in it and was on exposure 10 so I’m still working my way through that roll. It’s an enjoyable camera and see why it’s liked by those in the know.
Not sure how much I’ll use it though. I shoot a little less film since I got the K-70 and I’ve also got a K1000, ME Super, Program Plus, Spotmatic etc that need to be exercised too.

It’s a nice pic. I never would have thought to do such a long exposure of a field, fearing that even the gentlest of breeze would have blurred the grass a lot.

Amazing photos!! I see they were shot with a 600mm lens. How far away were you? I think I would have freaked out had I stumbled on that.

It might be useful too if people posted information about dealing with the sticky mirror. I haven't researched it in depth and hope never to have to, but I think there are people who were able to get their cameras more functional (without an expensive CLA) by applying talc or graphite to the sticky pads.
Here is one such video You Tube |

I think it was on this site that someone said they used pencil lead shavings.

In reading up about these cameras, I found this page to be informative. This site gives general information about the LX including the 3 "maintenance versions" and a bit about the Japanese models with the colored dials. http://klassik-cameras.de/Pentax_LX.html
At the very bottom of that page are links to more of his pages about other Pentax history and Takumar lenses.

While most other sites talk about there being a late version and an early version of the LX, this gentleman breaks the versions down to 3 "maintenance versions." Not sure if he created this classification or not. Pentax LX - the last Samurai
"There are 3 known maintenance versions of the LX:
First version: ISO dial to 1600 ASA
Second version: ISO dial to 3200 ASA
Third version: ISO dial toe 3200 ASA, Collar around release button for locking (as pictured above)
The last version is said to be the most long-lived one, and least-prone to "sticky mirror syndrome", a common disease in older focal plane shutter SLR's, resulting from worn mirror silencers."
There are links at the bottom of his page for his other Pentax pages. Looks like good stuff.

Got these items from a guy selling most of his stuff so that he could travel the world in an RV. Really nice German gentleman who clearly had good taste and took good care of his gear.

Update: I guess I joined the cult.... er, club. ---------- Post added 03-30-21 at 12:02 PM ---------- I had never thought I would own an LX. I still love film but enjoyed getting good, old stuff like Program Plus, ME Supers etc and playing for cheap. Didn’t like the idea of tying up REAL money if stuff that might be too pricy to actually use much or hard to get fixed. Ran across a guy selling off much of his worldly goods in order to sell his home and travel the world in a custom built RV (he had some $$$ it seems). In this lot of old Pentax stuff were a couple of nice lenses. I think he perceived that the major value in the lot was the LXs. He was eager to unload the stuff and said if I buy the LXs he’d throw everything else in for free. Agreed to meet him and thought I’d offer half his asking price for the lenses and he keeps the LX stuff to sell on to someone else and end up making more money than he was asking me for the whole lot. But unfortunately I’m a weak, weak person. Got the stuff in my hands and it was over. Bought the whole lot.
One LX with the winder is 2nd series (3200 iso, old style shutter lock). Works perfect seemingly (not yet film tested).
The other LX was described as mirror locked up in auto but can be released by switching to manual. I recognized this as likely a battery issue, not sticky mirror. Turns out there is a issue where the half press of the shutter release doesn’t turn on the meter, but the meter can be turned on by pressing the exposure compensation lock button (a feature of the second and third series cameras). So I think there is an issue with a connection under the shutter release, but it’s an otherwise fully functioning camera. I just press a different button to activate the meter. This one is a third series (crown style shutter lock).

FWIW, I did email EH and he said that he indeed still works on LX. Said that his success rate was about 80%.

I agree with that but a lens described as fungus free which is laden with fungus to the extent that the buyer describes it as a vaseline factory might be closer to dishonest rather than optimistic. Or perhaps the buyer is exaggerating the extent of the fungus. But since he’s a board member, I can only assume he’s honest, truthful and a wonderful human being.
The fact that the lens appears to have been opened up suggests that the seller knew about it. Perhaps tried to clean it up, failed and thought he’s pass the lens on to a rube. But of course it may have been a prior owner who opened up the lens. Who knows. I’m admittedly a bit jaded about items that arrive looking significantly than described. Everyone makes mistakes though.
