Hi!, lot of time has passes, and lock down.

On lock down I decided to dismantle it until final consequences.
And I do
I manage to fix the problem, but I’ve had another one.
Cleaning the interior mechanism on the left side of the mirror, I dropped some isopropilic alcohol in the mirror, and I clean it with a cotton stick: error!! I killed it!, so I replace ir with another used one. So take care with screens and isopropyl alcohol.
I’ve cleaned with zippo fluid the mechanism on the left side of the mirror, and then I lubricated it with watch oil ( a good Swiss one).
And voila, problem solved.
I dismantled a lot, and I was in need to desolder some cables, keep track with pictures
in the picture marked the area where i cla'd.
Good luck if someone's try it!

Hope it helps!

Pentax LX rubber pads ( shape and size) at rest position of the mirror?

Hi Tom, it's a Leitax conversion on the lens.
The only problem is that the diaphragm remains closed when you close, so to focus and the dim image is not nice.
It's a very nice lens, and as I no have a Leica R body ( Leica IIIC and M8 yes) the only solution was de bayonet swap.
By the way, the SL2 is much bigger than the LX?

Turbof, yes, exactly.
Thanks for the time to post, it helps me a lot!!!!

Now, the light seals as the mirror damping rubber ( the upper one) are coming, as the Screen.
I've dismantle it a bit, to clean it and lubricate, cause the mirror was stuck, now it's working perfect.
here some pictures of the process....
One dismantled, the other job done

Thanks!!

Hello all.
Well, I need a bit of help here....
This days a've done a clean and lubed to my LX, now it's nice again, but I need to resolve the last thing:

The rubber pads that are under the mirror.... as they disintegrate in my camera, I don't know, the shape, and the size!, and I know that they have a role in the infinity focus.
Can someone take a picture to this pads?, and measure them? at least grosso modo?
I can figure out where and how the left pad needs to be glued, but the right one....I see a round shape piece in the right, but I cannot imagine how can be the pad...
Any help will be really appreciated, I want to put the LX to work again, 15 years after his last roll.....

I've read some time ago that neoprene can be used?....

Thanks for your advices and ideas.

Hello all, thanks for your answers.
i've learned a lesson...
i've found a provisoire substitute focusing scree, from a Vivitar donor camera.
It fits ok after lateral sand.
But of course it's not the same, the image i see on the viewfinder is lifeless.
I'll find an original one.
Anyway, i'll try all the procedures Buzz, Kobayashi, and Astro Baby sugests.
It's a plastic screen.
It's a peety because i've solved the probloem, but killed the screen.
Anyway, everyday we learn something, this is good.
Thanks all!!!

Hello all.
This days at home I start to do some maintenance to my cameras, and well I said to myself, let's try to repair the LX.
The camera has a sloooow and heavy mirror movement up, nothing to do with the sticky syndrome, deeper.
So, i dismantle the camera, and I apply in the mirror movements Zippo fluid, and isopropyl alcohol.
Zippo first, and the gears worked again, nice! problem solved.
BUT, some of one or both fluids, went to the screen, and let it very stained.
I tried to clean that and it was worst...
Can I assume the screen is dead, or I can try something to resolve it?
I need a hand here, is sad.

Any suggestions?

Thanks all!!

Hi, cero problem with infinity or close focus on leica R lenses.
I don’t remember where i’ve bought the convertion mount. Maybe leitax.
It’s no tan asapter but a convertion mount. You need to unmount from the lens the leica bayonet mount and screw the pentax one.
Good luck and enjoy

Crazy test, recoating front element with wear glasses technologies

Hello all.

This days i have had an idea that i'm going to test.
I've a cousin that knows some opticians who build, polish, and coat top quality wear glasses.

I remember some years ago, a condensEr of a leica focomat enlarger, has scratchs in the horizontal plane ( the one that press the negative to flatten it), so i send them to one optican to polish it, when i ask to him if he was able to do it he asks me": it's a flat surface, i work with complex curves, to make the people see.
The result was a miracle. Clean, clean, clean.
So now i have 2 Canon canonets, with micro scratches in the front element, and i will send it to polish and coat, and then use a uv filter to protect it, cause i supose is more fragile than original coatings.

i keep in touch with the upcomings.

Any comments?

Fabian

Voila' a picture.
Film was kodak proimage 100. Developed in a fast lab with low res scan.
No too mutch tweaking, just levels.
it was fun. Now i want to shoot some B&W.

The second has an intentional flare, just to see how it behaves ( i dont like it).

Hi, thanks for your repply, i agree of course with you.

Sorry i made a mistake in my original post: i should say :

" I've cleaned my K1000 ( never used by me until yesterday), and then i mounted a Summicron R50/2 that i have adapted to "K" mount.

K mount, not M mount as i wrote.

So, making other test:

I'm foscusing in the finder an object at infinity, and in the barrel i'm in 10 mts.

If i turn the focus to the closest distance ( 50 cm marked in the barrel) and i move the camera to a subject to find the focus, the real distance from the film to the subject is 35 mm.

That situation, is far away from ideal, cause you cannot calculate the DOF, in the marks at the barrel, and not to work with Hyperfocal distance....

Hello, interesting find.
When i focus at infinit in the finder the scale on the lens shows me 10 mts so the rear element is closer to the film with this new adaptation than the original mount.

Hello all.
Just to share this combination i'm trying today for the first time.
I've cleaned my K1000 ( never used by me until yesterday), and then i mounted a Summicron R50/2 that i have adapted to M mount.
It's not a converter between the lens and the camera but a metal piece ( with M mount) that you need to screw in the base of the lens after taking off the original one with Leica R mount ( i guess i've bought it on ebay from china, or in Leitax....i dont remember, it was done 7 years ago).

So, first time with the K1000 and first time with 35mm film after some years in a DSRL.
The K 1000 is really basic camera, but enough for my kind of photography, the only thing i miss is the diopter correction i had on the LX......

I've polished the K1000 body, with metal polish after a first cleaning with isopropyl alcohol, It was really bad.
The metal has lots of tiny scratches, so the polish "erase them" without loosing the opaque shining.

The lens is heavier and bulkier than a Pentax 50/1.7, and the convertion doesn't allow you the automatic diagragm when you shoot.
I mean, if you stop to f8 in the lens, you close the lens so the image is darker in the visor, as you was checking depht of field with other cameras.
This is no good, because you need to focus at f2 and then you close to your desired f number.....

Anyway, is an interesting combination, let's see how will be the results. I've found just 100 ISO color film ( i wanted trix or hpf....).

I'll post some results next days.

Sorry for my english.

Slooooooooooowww mirror on Pentax LX

Hello all.
Well, after some years in the shelf, i wanted to shoot again with my LX.
And what happens?
When i shoot, the mirror goes up sloooowly, and goes down normaly.

If i invert the camera, upside down position, the mirror moves faster, but goes down ( in this position up) slowly.
It's not the sticky mirror problem.

If i move it by hand, i feel it heavy, and "stationary".
I have a P30, and a K1000, and both mirrors are ok, when i move them by hand, they act free with clear tension.

Seems that the problem can be clogged grease....?

I've tried to find info in how to do a DIY maintenance, and nothing....
I've opening the base plate just to take a look, but from beneath there's no visual contact with the mecanics of the mirror.
Anyone can give me his opinion on what way need i take to arrive to this mecanic part to clean and lubricate?

I know, the best way is to send the camera to a CLA, but i like to do it myself, if it's not toooooo dificult.

Here's a video of the problem:

Hello all.
Nice forum!, i was reading for some time.
I was ( am) photographer, but now i work with sound mostly.
I shooted lots of 35 ( leica M2, M3, and my loved LX), and tons of medium format.

Now, i'm starting again with analog, so, i unpaked my LX ( i have no sell it!).

This is why i'm reading, to bring air again, and keep my LX running.

Nice to share with you!

Fabian
