Machinery Keephills power plant

This is the Keephills power plant, supplying electricity to the city of Edmonton and area. There's a longer story here, but I digress. What I am very happy about is that according to google I was 14.91km away, or 9.26 miles away. This is the longest distance picture I've ever taken, standing on a small hill rise in a farmers field. Yes, I had permission to be there.

People jam session

Been a while since I did any work here! Just some laid back people jamming away. I wanted to see what the noise reduction in the K3iii and I am very pleased! To be honest, I further de noised the photos using photoshop, but it was a very slight correction. My other mistake is that 1/60th a second is a little too slow as the musicians are always moving, giving that slight soft look.

At the north edge of the valley, east side of Edmonton. Finally figured out a few things with my new K3iii. What a monster camera! Minor editing and slight cropping with photoshop. Also, it was -31c when I took these.

Taken this morning approx 0830 mtn time. Western Canada is immersed in a cold spell, but as I've said before, my camera doesn't care about such annoyances as cold weather!

My contribution for this months contest. This is the Rochfort Bridge, actually a wooden trestle approx 5 miles east of Mayerthorpe, Alberta. Its full length is 2,114 feet and is 110 feet high. This was taken September 2022 during some nasty forest fires and the smoke and haze was quite dense but when in black and white gives it a ghost in the distance vibe.

Just when you think the snow is gone....NOPE!
Head a fun day getting wet with wet snow and some rain. Tried to capture as much falling snow as the trees and whatever else.
I think I have my digital xmas card for 2023-24 as well in here. IMGP2233

Taken March 31st. I used a polarizer which cleaned up the blue sky nicely.

I took these before xmas. I love how the clouds seem to scrape against the tops of the mountains.
As always, comments and criticisms always welcome!

Here is the lovely Ha Ling Peak, located at Canmore Alberta. I have climbed her more than once. The pic is a single exposure of 30 seconds, and I timed it for the moon just peaking over the Grotto mountains. Only editing was noise reduction, once by my K5 and again in Camera Raw. Also I crushed the blacks a bit to bring the stars out. The light in the background are the lights of Calgary, approx 110km away.

How did you become a Pentaxian ?

In August 2017, I decided that a camera was going to be in my life. I had no idea then how large a part it should become! I spoke with an acquaintance who simply said "you need a camera that's a gazelle, a brick, a temperature defying monster and is very patient with the operator!" Smart ass....HAHAHA He suggested I look into Pentax as they are quite robust. I ended up at my now favourite store, McBain Camera here in Edmonton where they had a used K5 with extended battery, a 16-45mm, 55-300mm tele, and I added a new nifty fifty. The price was incredible. The Universe was talking to me. I'm now approx 22000 pictures taken since 2017, and this camera refuses to die! I've been out in in -30c weather for hours, and in +30c weather with humidity. Dust storms? No problem. Epic prairie rains? We got this. The camera is a gazelle, a brick and a temperature defying monster!

But what's more, it's helped me recover from a divorce, an alienation, being thrown away by others...you get the idea. The PTSD I suffer with is lessened when I go into a field and capture grace...where the shutter opens and closes.

I will be a Pentaxian until my last breath.

What is the lens that lives on your camera?

Great question!
My 50-135mm lens usually stays on my K5. It's a work horse lens that allows me a multitude of opportunities to get a good shot! I love that lens above all the others, which I also love!
