What type of camera bags you prefer ?

Having spent some time looking at camera bags, I chose a different route because I think most camera bags and rucksacks in particular are a compromise and not a very good one, at least for me. They're also extortionately expensive for a compromise. I've chosen just to use ordinary bags and inserts or cases as inserts.

For your particular purpose I think something like the Tenba byob 10, designed to fit in a rucksack and give top access to the camera may suit. It's the biggest they do, whether it will be big enough, you'll have to decide. The advantage is it will go in any rucksack, the disadvantage is you only get top access and may need to take it out for full access, depending on the rucksack.

Lowepro do a similar thing called a gear up creator box, which comes in different sizes and has similar zipped access.

With either you could use any rucksack and you could mix and match the inserts but it would really depend on whether you see that working for you.

Very interested to see how you get on with this lens as it recently made it on to my radar. Seen some nice starbursts from it.

Mind you, a lot of things make it on to my radar without getting any closer.

I mainly shoot raw in dng but for holidays and things I'll shoot both as the jpgs are ideal for quick transfer from the camera and into the Google album.

Do geese arrive, or for that matter, leave any other way :D

I normally get hissed at by them when I walk past them in the local park lake.

Question on the use of Memory Cards

The only thing I've found that mattered is the write switch on the side. Invariably these loosen up over time and then when you take the card out and then return it, the damn switch slides into the locked position. So far Sandisk and Lexar are equally guilty of this 'defect'. I have now moved to Integral and the switch is much much stiffer to move. 12 months on and so far so good.

Emergency procedures card, can you tell what it is?

Ok, I think its jewellery. It was a bit clearer on my card. See I was paying attention to the very bored stewardess.

And they can do one if they think I'm leaving my specs behind, I wouldn't be able to find my way out without them. So I'm not leaving my specs or my duck behind, tough.

Is that Ryanair, I've just flown Ryanair and never noticed that, I obviously wasn't paying attention to the safety notices.

This is just a comment on the E m5 iii weatherproofing; This is a still from a video I was taking, one of several, whilst skiing during a blizzard. The camera was soaked and soaked for some time and then to compound things I went in from the cold to a warm mountain cafe for a well deserved hot chocolate, whereupon the camera completely steamed up, only clearing after a period back out. I'm pleased to report it continued functioning without a hiccup, unlike it's owner!

Image quality... not linked to ISO? hints?

Once again, I'm not saying screw drive lenses are slow and I'm perfectly willing to accept more experienced users views on my missed focus observations. I'm fully aware that missed focus can be down to user error in not understanding the limits of phase detect af.

I don't know where the lens speed data is, it was a post I saw on here on one of the many k3 3 threads which started when it was released. If I find it ill post it.

And at this point I'll bow out on those subjects and leave it to those who know more to fill in the blanks, although I think the op can rest assured his lens will keep up and is indeed finding that, which I'm very happy to read.

Well I was being circumspect, I never had any reason to complain about it myself but I never used it for action.

My only observation from screw drive lenses was an occasional tendency to slightly miss focus. Some lenses being worse than others in my experience. The DA 35 f2.4 being the most prone to this from the lenses I owned but I also found that the camera body played a part, the k5 being less precise than the Kp but not in every situation.

I only ever owned one non screw drive lens the da 20-40 and I found that much more reliable at getting accurate focus every time.

I think there were some articles when the k3 3 came out about which lenses would most suit it's af speeds and in there some observations about screw drive lenses not being in the primary category, that's not really so contentious is it, quite willing to accept arguments and observations to the contrary, Norm?

Hiking for photography versus hiking photography (and why Pentax system is for me)

I would further expand on your premise and say, there's going out to take pictures and there's carrying a camera to record what you're doing and what you see. The two aren't incompatible, there's a Venn overlap but in my choice of gear and accessories I still lean towards portability.

The KP and the 20-40 used to be my choice for a holster bag at my side on my hip or over my shoulder. I get that carrying method from taking a camera mountaineering, scrambling and climbing and it always needing some protection from the elements or rocks.

I did once not close the holster properly and as I scrambled over some rocks, the camera slipped out, I yelled and the bloke in front of me turned and caught my camera before it disappeared 3000ft below. That was some time ago on a winter traverse of the Aonach Eagach and the camera an OM10. He didn't pay for his beer that night.

Next week I'm going skiing, taking my camera on a holster over my shoulder with a stabiliser strap. I expect only to record the trip this time.

Yes dot tuning is another method, never used it myself but others have. It's definitely worth doing even if you find it's not out much and the quick and dirty method will give you an indication if it's front or back focusing before you move on to the more calibrated test.

I think I'm right in thinking the K50 has a fine focus adjustment and for this lens it's going to be worth setting up, especially with the narrower depth of field, mine improved vastly after I did it. If you don't know what that is there are lots of articles, here's one on this site. I didn't use a lens cal but made my own target, steel rule and a box and did it for that lens at 25x the focal length at 70, 135 and 200. Before I did it I also did a quick and dirty check on a fence outside with me leaning against a wall, I recommend the ruler by preference.

Focus speed will vary between cameras. The Tamron wasn't particularly slow on my K5 but was faster on my Kp, however it is a screw drive lens and a big one, so fast is relative. I guess you can only try it and see but once it gets into the zone it should keep up, like I said, I've seen people on here post sports pictures taken with it.

If he's just talking about Sigma, those lenses have a lot of competition, m43 is well served for lenses, however, in general the camera market does seem to be moving to a higher cost lower volume model.

I've watched some of it, the tech live shows tend to be better as questions come up in the comments which can lead in interesting directions, the product reviews tend to be a bit gushy and non-descript.

Talking of macro, I'm still holding off getting one as I'm finding the 12-40 can do a lot of what I tend to do with a macro, not being a proper macro photographer. If I hadn't already copied the majority of my film stuff with the D FA100 I would probably get the 60mm but as it is my head is being turned by by the Voigtlanders or possibly the 42.5 F1.2 pana-Leica. We'll see.

Blossom is out and the snowdrops and daffodils, which always leads to a bad few weeks for me, allergy wise, though I'm fine the rest of the year.
