Not really a photo but I did recently render a Blender project that was entirely bokeh. That counts doesn't it? :p You Tube |

Did you check out the SE? That’s what I use currently. I don’t want anything bigger and the performance is great!

Never. They will always degrade image quality, and if there are any light-emitters in your frame it will produce artifacts. Then if you have to user a filter you actually need, like ND or CPL, that filter stacks and will be a reflection-hive spawning all kinds of strange artifacts and dots in your images.
I have dropped one of my lenses twice when I started shooting (poor beater-lens, he always gets the short end of the stick now), both times it had a filter and the filter gave its life for the lens. Both times were because of lazy support execution. I can imagine, for new shooters, to have a UV on for a while, but once you have even a little experience under your belt I'd take them off asap. Following good storage practices, cleaning procedures, and generally knowing what you're doing when shooting will prevent damage to the lens.
If I'm at the beach or in the mud/gravel/sand, I will use weather sealed lenses and bag the camera. A lens hood/matte box will keep 99% of anything dangerous away from the front element. For more casual shooting I will just use a cheaper body and beater lens that I don't care if it gets dirty.

De-clicked the iris of the Vivitar 20mm, and removed all the AE levers/protrusions. Lost the little ball, so no going back now! XD
My solution to the extremely loose iris ring was to cut a double sided tape in half (so it's only one side) and stick it on the inside of the ring with some grease. A little stiff but hopefully will loosen up with use as it compresses more.

Just picked up a mint condition Vivitar 19mm f/3.8 for not very much. Contax mount. Can't wait for an adapter to arrive so I can test it out!

Tokina 28-85 f/4 in m42 mount. Everything is stiff and the blades are very stiff. Closing the aperture requires smacking the lens. Otherwise very clean.
Anyone know a good lens repair tech that might take care of this without charging an arm and a leg?

Thanks! I have that one. The far focus distance and tighter range gets it used a lot less though. Might consider selling it. Excellent micro contrast for photos though.
Edit: I also don’t have any use for a push-pull lens. All my zooms are two-touch except for that one and the 45-125.

When you are capturing a wide dynamic range, it has to be stored in a log profile or you lose data. The Rec.709 color space is a compressed format. This isn't new, film was scanned into Cineon Log since the 1990s.
You are right about it being abused. The ignorant believe that because something is "log" means it looks "expensive" or "cinematic" and it has become something of a trend lately, unfortunately. This is because they see un-colored footage from Arri or other cinema cameras and compare their camera's footage to that.

You and me both. I’d also gladly accept the A f/2.8 or the m42 f/4.5

Just arrived from ebay a "macro" generation Tokina AT-X 28-85mm f/3.5-4.5.
Already fell in love with it just while checking to make sure everything is functional..
Appears to be mostly parfocal, even though they never claimed to be. My close focus subject remained in the same focus plane throughout the zoom range with a tiny bit of breathing. No focus breathing at all. Bokeh at 85mm is gorgeous. The mediocre reviews of this lens on the this site don't do it justice. Hidden gem! I'm going to get another one when I find a good deal.
Close focus is 33cm from front element and 45cm from sensor. At 85mm focal length that's fantastic. |

This x100
When you put extra force, even when unscrewing, you can bind it up from the downward force and make it more stuck. Try pulling away lightly from the lens in varying degrees while twisting off, and using as light a grip as necessary while steadily increasing grip/twisting power.

Agreed! I won't buy an automatic transmission. Has to be manual! Older is better (to me). I do extensive research on the vehicles I buy and make sure the mechanics are bulletproof.
They are completely automatic and sit behind your review mirror, you barely know they are there. You never have to touch it.
Also it's your own personal insurance, nobody has access to it except for you.
Try saying it's unnecessary when the motorist who cut you off and sideswiped you when merging and tells the cops you ran into them. By the way, this motorist happens to be much more attractive than you are...XD
To each their own...I understand not wanting more gadgets in a car, but it really does help you.

I drive a lifted Jeep with 33” tires, armor plating, lights, wench, the works.
I like that it can climb a near verticle obstacle, go where a car couldn’t rven get towed from, drive over/push small cars, pull stuck objects, and generally make ******* drivers leave me alone.
I don’t like that I get 15mpg on a good day and that it’s hard to pass smog.
In regards to the dashcam criticism: people nowadays are literally insane. I can’t image driving without one.

Well, you know what they say, facts don't care about your feelings. Nowhere on his website does it say that he refurbishes or restores cameras. It says that he repairs them. To expect anything different is to have unrealistic expectations.

I think people need to have their expectations in the right place. I just received my MX back from Eric. Everything I asked for was performed (and well) except a new focusing screen, but I assume that's because they are hard to come by and maybe he ran out of clean spares. Anyway, he's not advertising a full restoration of these cameras, just repair and CLA. My MX came back very snappy and sharp, and all the mechanical components or parts that affect functionality were lubed and working perfectly. I did notice the cosmetics of the camera were relatively untouched. I purposefully left some dirty spots when I did my initial clean-down thinking "he'll probably take care of that", but nope.
Think of it like a car mechanic. They fix what's wrong, put new parts in and send you an invoice. They don't detail your interior.
Regardless, I'm very happy with the services performed. I can buff the dirt off the hot shoe and clean up some of the exterior metal. That's not his job.
