Cheers, guys. Yeah, the Skyline name might be gone, but the heritage is still there.
I'm just left scratching my head over what IOPY means though

Cheers. I'm glad to hear you mention the tone and mood - it's one of the things I liked about it, too.
Love the E30. I hadn't seen one around for a while, I'd almost forgotten how small they are : )

I went to a car show n' shine yesterday, and saw this beauty in the carpark outside. I would've liked to zoom out a little, but I couldn't allow another parked car on the right to spoil the shot. |

Cheers. Yeah, I was trying to be slightly 'artsy' with that one. I figured people might look at the thumbnail and wonder 'What the hell is that?' :D
Yep, we had 245ci and 265ci straight six hemi's available as well as the V8's. Were the hemi sixpacks not a thing in the US? I honestly don't know all the in's and out's between the US and Oz regarding Mopar.
All very true, sadly. I couldn't wait to get my drivers licence as a kid. So much so, that I started driving at 12, lol (where it was safe to do so, of course)
Definitely the Dodge Charger. It's right up there with the 69 Mustang - absolutely gorgeous cars.
Sweet! There were a few at the meetup last night. They're getting rarer every day. So, much respect for your son-in-law for keeping them alive a bit longer.
Thanks for the comments, everyone. It was difficult selecting just 6 photos for the original post :D

Thanks! I went in for the roses, but ended up preferring the silver beads on the leaves below it.
I might as well post the actual flowers, too for a sense of completeness :D |

True, I probably should've said 'one of many old buildings' :)
And, I agree. The playground is very stark in contrast. I got a shot of it from the other side on a different day, but the sky was just boring old blue :D |

It's come along way since those days. Mostly in terms of ease of use and durability, but LiPo batteries, brushless motors and 2.4GHz radios have removed a whole lot of headaches, although some things never change :D

I manually focused on the area where I wanted to catch the cars mid-air, then tracked the cars on their approach and pressed shoot with the camera moving when I felt they were in the right spot. A bit hit and miss, but when timed right it works well.
Cheers for the positive comments, everyone :D

It can be quite challenging to shoot these radio controlled cars. They're only about a foot long and travel surprisingly quick. |

Yes, I'm coming to grips with a much longer lens than I'm used to, and I've had a bit of a chance to test it in the environment that it was intended. Small, fast moving radio controlled race cars.
I still have some work to do, but I'm happy enough with the sharpness. |

Thanks for the input, everyone. It probably is just a case of me needing some more time to come to grips with this longer lens. Getting a sharp image from my Sigma 17-50mm was so easy. Plus, I'm still getting familiar with my K5's auto-focusing coming from a 100D.
I'll try bringing it back from 300 a bit with some different apertures and go back to manual focus. I don't normally use auto, but after getting some soft images at 300mm manually, I thought I'd try relying on the camera's focus and thought that f11 would have deeper DoF.
Cheers.

Wow, this is all very interesting. Thanks for the replies everyone.
You're right. Sorry the images aren't better suited for testing purposes and/or under exposed. It was a bit random this afternoon. Here's a couple more at closer range though (more like 6' instead of 25'). All of them were focused on the centre spot.
I'll try to get some better ones tomorrow.

I recently bought a DA 55-300mm f/4-5.8 ED WR lens, but I'm not 100% sure that I've ended up with a good unit. I've read the reviews for this lens on the forum and I've noticed some people saying that they ended up with a dud lens that wasn't very sharp at 300mm. And after my first test run (just in the backyard) I wasn't satisfied with the images that I was getting. I thought maybe I just wasn't holding it steady enough (I'm more used to my Sigma 17-50mm which I'm really happy with).
So, what I've done here is zoomed the lens all the way to 300mm, sat it on a table, set it to a 2 second timer (stabilization off), auto focused on a K5 at f11 and took some shots of various objects in my yard with detailed textures as a test.
I'd love to get some opinions on the sharpness of these shots below. I'm not sure if it's just my eyes, or I'm expecting too much. I've uploaded them unedited to an image hosting site, so you'll find them to be clickable to see the original resolution.
I'm no photography expert, so if anyone has suggestions on a better way to test the lens, I'm all ears. |

Thanks for the warm welcome. It's good to see such an active forum here in 2019. I'll post a couple more shots, but it's mostly models for now. I hope to expand my photographic sense now that I've just picked up a K-r coupled with an SMC Pentax M 50mm 1.7 :) |
