Purchase of 35mm camera and lenses

I didn't buy the set up for the camera, I bought it more for the lenses (to shoot with on K-5) and the Cokin filter set up. I'm finding Pentax film cameras for sale, with lenses, that cost between $9.95 - 39.95. I've acquired A SMC Pentax-M 1:4 75 -150mm (clean optics and fully functional) and a SMC Pentax-M 1:3.5 135mm (again clean optics and fully functional), along with a Pentax ZX-7 that came with a Pentax FA 80 - 320mm & a FA 28 - 80mm. Total investment under $80. I sold off my Olympus & Nikon digital gear and am experimenting (cheaply) to see what focal lengths work since moving to the Pentax camp. Will also be looking into purchase of K-3 and K-1 along with serious Pentax glass. I'm and old school photographer with more than one working 35mm lying around.

AF-500 FTZ Flash
Manual Booklet for AF-500 FTZ Flash
Sigma UC Zoom 28-70mm f/2.8-4 Lens
Nikura MC Auto Zoom 60-300mm 1:3.9 Lens

Cost was less than $40 including shipping.
Since getting into Pentax, buying to test. Good buy or not?

K70 as a K5 upgrade?

For the past couple of days I've been reading through this forum. I stopped on this thread because I was curious about the K-70, having recently acquired a K-5. If I'm out of line, I apologize, yet I've always been one to speak my mind. I am new to this Pentax Forum, and all of the "my dog is bigger than your dog" attitude, that appears on many threads, does nothing to make me feel welcome, nor does it keep me better informed about Pentax. I wanted to read about the D-70, instead, I ended up with whose battery is bigger.

How good is Pentax AF tracking?

The photo speaks more loudly than words. Too often people get stuck in the "my dog's bigger than yours" mentality. AF is not just about technology, it's a "tool" that should be used, just like a wood carver's chisel. I'm new to Pentax digital, having been in the Olympus and Nikon camp for years, I'm also "old school" by today's standards. I starting using my first camera in 1958 (a kodak ). I moved through Miranda, Minolta, Pentax, Nikon and Olympus during the film days. Now it's digital and I went through Olympus (E-3) and moved to Nikon (D300, D7000 and D7100). Now I've taken a step "backward" (24 MP to 16 MP) via the purchase of a Pentax K-5 (used, 12k shutter). Firmware update improved the AF. What I've learned from the different digitals is that the lens makes a very big difference in the AF acquisition. Besides the lens, shooting techniques or "style" also makes a big difference. Having "panned" with a non-AF film camera to capture moving objects or people, besides using shutter speed, f stop and iso, I've learned that it is important how the camera "feels" in one's hands. Pentax AF works, so do other brands. Why the debate? I always thought that photography is simply a medium, another form of creative expression.

I'm currently looking at the following lenses: DA* 55 mm F 1.4, DA* 50-135 mm F 2.8, and the DA 55-300 mm F 4-5.8. I believe these will give me the ability to shoot as I like to without compromising the quality of glass. As far as the K-3 vs the K-3ii, I wouldn't use the GPS whereas the pop up flash would come in handy. I got rid of the Nikon D7100 and still have the D7000, but that will be going as well. With the availability of some of the older Pentax glass out there, I can "experiment" without spending major dollars. I have definitely decided to move to Pentax, simply because after a few days with the K-5, it feels good in my hands and I like the results I'm seeing (even with the inexpensive 18-200 mm Tamron that came with it). Personally, I think the Pentax does a better job with the RAW files than does Nikon (K-5 vs D7000).

Added this to my collection of older Kodaks (1907 is earliest).
This is the Kodak Six 20 Duo, made in Germany 1933 -1937.

Working 35mm cameras are a Minolta SRT 101 and Olympus OM1-n.

(Un)popular Opinion: Pentax AF Doesn't Suck

New to this forum and new to Pentax digital. I bought a used K-5 (very low shutter count) with a Tamron 18-200mm lens. It had the original firmware and spent time "hunting" in overcast. Checked and download latest firmware and installed. This seemed to sharpen the focus and make acquisition quicker (shooting same subject in same light). My Nikon D7000 also seems to "hunt" in overcast, and I was impressed by the K-5's results.

Just read this thread with interest, especially since I just purchased a used K-5. I've been an Olympus and Nikon user for years, and recently developed an interest in trying out the Pentax. I am also looking at the K-3 or K-3ii. If I transition from the other brands, then I will need to purchase lenses, after getting rid of the other gear. I use eBay and have made offers that are reasonable (usually within 85%-90% of asking price). I buy a camera for how it feels in my hand, the quality of build, and how well the pics turn out (which is based on techniques, shooting style, and then the ability of the camera combined with lens). I shot film when there was no such thing as auto focus, and video was done with movie cameras that used film (that you had to edit and splice). So I look for a DSLR that feels like a camera, handles like one, and doesn't contain a bunch of unneeded or unwanted "tricks & features." The K-5 appears to give me that, and if the K-3 is better, bring it on.

I'm "old school" and grew up with film and darkrooms.
Shot with Miranda, Minolta, Nikon, Olympus (still have & use OM1-n) and Pentax during the 35mm film days.

In this digital era cameras used are: Olympus E-3, Nikon D300, Nikon D7000, Nikon D7100 and most recently a Pentax K-5.
After reading about Pentax I decided to try a digital out, and purchase a used Pentax K-5 (12k shutter count) with a Tamron 18-200mm lens.

I must say, I'm impressed by the build of the K-5 and it's various features. I updated the firmware to latest version and auto focus improved on the Tamron.
I need to get some additional lenses for it and would welcome suggestions. After further shooting and comparing, I may decide to shed the Nikon gear and move to Pentax.
The K-3 is calling my name.
