The Mogollon Rim in the northeastern part of Arizona is where the Colorado plateau abruptly ends and falls about 1,500 feet down to a wonderland of pine forests. Runoff season has begun, with lingering snow on the top of the rim and rushing streams below. K1-II + DA* 300mm.

Looking out from a railroad tunnel outside Payson, AZ through the Mogollon Rim that was started in the late 1800s, but never finished. The idea was to connect Flagstaff and Globe to allow lumber to be transported south in exchange for minerals going the other direction. They managed to blast 100 feet out of the proposed total of 3,100 before running out of money, sooooo...not exactly close! Now its a novelty hiking destination accessible via a short spur off the AZ trail.

Looked out the front door after the rain stopped here in Phoenix this afternoon and was treated to this beaut. Immediately sprinted for my camera and DA300 (w/ B+W polarizer). The light after rain storms ranks right up there with early morning and golden hour light for me.
