Good thought on the superglue, perhaps something else would be preferable. It looks to me like the soldered pins just came loose, but taking the whole camera apart to fix it seems a bit overkill (and creates a risk of damage). Replacing the whole main-board would be a waste.

I can pull it back into position with tweezers and then look to apply a toothpick sized glob of superglue to the edge. Low budget and wouldn't stand up to use, but it should keep it in place.

Gotcha, misread the listing. I'm comfortable working with the door open in this context - any time its being used in this configuration I'll be keeping a VERY close eye on the weather, given the sheer amount of gear that is sitting out waiting to get ruined.
For fun, here's a 100% crop of NGC-2903, which I was imaging before the camera died.

Interesting, didn't know that was an option. Ideally I wouldn't want to use AC in the first place, since it adds a cord that needs to be routed down from the telescope - I just ordered the parts to set up a step-down supply from 12V.

Yeah, I've been working to try to figure out cable management. I actually added an adhesive quick cable organizer to the bottom of the camera which has exactly the effect you mention, but getting it 12V compatible would eliminate the extra cable to the ground entirely, so probably a better solution. I think the jack was already failing when I added this, however, so the shock could have come earlier.

Hi all,
I've been using my K1ii for astrophotography lately, which has made using the 8.3v DC jack necessary. Last night I went out to check on my rig to find the camera dead, because the DC adapter wasn't connected - looking at it now, the jack has completely dislodged inside the camera body (pic attached).
I don't think it's been subject to any particularly traumatic handling, though the AC adapter cable end could exert some leverage due to its length if it got bumped. Anyway, I wondered if anyone has experience disassembling these for DIY repairs to comment on the feasibility. I've successfully worked on other cameras and small electronics (including solenoid replacement for a K-S2), but the K1ii is my big expensive baby and I don't want to get in over my head and break the thing.
Options as I see it:
1. Find a good repair shop to fix it ($$$ and time)
2. DIY a fix, if accessing this part is straightforward during disassembly
3. Forget it, and just build a DIY 12V DC adapter for the battery slot. (how are these not available to purchase btw?)
Thoughts?

What payment methods work well in your experience? I mostly buy gear, still figuring out how to sell it.

OK, dropped price another $25. My new telescope just arrived, and finally selling this guy will make my wife feel better about my terrible gear addiction.
Are there other kinds of pictures people want to see? The level of sharpness shown wide open in dim indoor light on that calligraphy picture should reassure potential buyers that this copy matches the optics seen in the review threads. When it warms up next week I could try going out and getting some bird shots if that's what it takes, but it's too damn cold right now.

Adding a 100% crop for the 500mm also, since the JPG loses some detail.

I've added two photos for comparison, using a framed calligraphy piece in my living room. Both shots are from the same tripod in the same spot:
1. 500mm (lens for sale), f4.5, ISO800, 1/80
2. 120mm crop (Sigma 120-400 APO DG HSM), f4.5, ISO800, 1/100
If you want a detailed comparison I can PM you the raws, but I'd rather not post the wider shot of my living room publicly. ---------- Post added 02-11-21 at 12:16 PM ---------- Those pictures are taken at around 36 feet btw.

I honestly haven't used it much, so I don't have a whole lot of pictures taken with it. If you check out the grass in that picture of the robin you can sort of see how it handles. I can try to go out and take some actual shots later this week if that would help.

Hmm, mainly included that restriction since I figure the shipping would be more expensive and there might be unknown hassles since I've never shipped anything internationally. If it's not onerous we could probably work something out.

That was my thought, but it might partly be because I'm not a natural salesman and don't do the usual song and dance of "this is my favorite lens ever OMG I can't believe I'm letting it go!"

Absolutely, I just never got around to doing any of the things with it I planned on. When I go out shooting I usually prefer to cover a lot of ground hiking rather than waiting for a shot, and it definitely needs a tripod to work well. I also think that it would make a great lens for doing filter based astrophotography, since it has great optics, lots of aperture, and a good focal length for a lot of larger objects/groups.
It definitely makes a conversation piece too, thing is an absolute unit.

PentaxForums.com Marketplace Listing Item for Sale
SMC Pentax 500mm F4.5 K Mount Asking Price
300.00 USD Item Location
Iowa (United States) Item Description
This is a huge lens: SMC Pentax 500mm f4.5, and is the version with the K-mount bayonet rather than the M42 mount. Link to PF review page.
I purchased it in 2019 off ebay from a listing titled "Rare NEAR MINT Pentax SMC 500mm f/4.5 Telephoto MF Lens For K Mount from Japan", and I honestly haven't found myself using it much. I purchased a more modern Sigma 120-400 from a user here, and it's a lot smaller and lighter and gets way more use.
I'd held onto it thinking that I might use it for astrophotography, but unless you use it with filters this model has too much chromatic aberration to be super useful (example attached).
The lens itself is in really good shape - calling it "good" on the rating scale is pretty conservative. The case is in worse shape, and unless it's just a collectors piece I'd recommend that you store it in something else, as the case is starting to leave dust on the outside of the lens due to its age.

You can get some great photos from this lens if you're parked someplace with a tripod. ---------- Post added 02-05-21 at 08:33 AM ---------- Dropping the price, but won’t go much lower - the lens is basically pristine, is the rarer k-mount version, and I know there’s somebody out there with a tripod and a good use case for this big sharp boy.

No idea, but my first instinct would be to clean the contacts on camera and make sure the firmware on the camera is up to date.
The Sigma 120-400 I got from @mike200d works flawlessly on the k1.

You're definitely not an idiot. I paid a little bit more than that for a nice copy of just the 500mm not too long ago. I don't know all the lenses in detail, but my advice is to shoot with each for a while, and sell the stuff you don't use.

Assuming the accident description is correct, it sounds like the driver wasn't paying attention. Avoiding a stalled vehicle shouldn't require leaving the road.

I thought the accellerator was able to take advantage of some analog signal processing before digitization, which wouldn't be reproducible in post. Not an expert, but I'm sure I read that somewhere on here.

I'm not sure the speed of that lens is greatly hampered by the focus mechanism - I assumed it was due to the really long focus throw due to being a macro lens.
