Bought mine used on Adorama so I can't speak of it's history (it looks new). I don't notice any play in the focus ring.

Mine has the same looseness in the zoom ring. I'm disappointed after spending $ 1200 CAD...on sale..for it. I plan to send it in to get it fixed, while it is still on the one year Pentax warranty. Image quality is fine, but not any better than the 28-105.

My Pentax 28-105 does not have any looseness and is an excellent lens. If I had to do it all over again, I probably wouldn't of bought the 24-70. I bought it because of the F 2.8 and the 24mm end of things, but with today's great resolution at high ISO, I don't think I realy needed it.

Right, I meant zoom. I didn't check the focus ring. I still consider myself new so I won't add my opinions. Others can give better, more useful advice from experience.

The lens is made in Japan, which suggests Tamron actually assemble it themselves (it;s a rebadge with modifications, of course) - so is this typical of Tamron lenses? I don't have any purebreds..

There's play in mine, as well

The even distribution of light did take a bit of dodging and burning, but the lens gets the lion's share of the credit for detail, contrast, and color.

Here's another shot from Patrick's Point SP, this time a 60 second exposure with the FA 43:

It was cold last night - at least -7°C. Knowing that this would create some nature art, I started for a short photo tour in the morning.

Did a new type of shoot for me last night.
Very hot and humid in this room so I was battling condensation. The light was also very harsh and not a natural color. I definitely learned some things. Not as easy as it might seem! This was also at the top of a ladder since the plants are 7' tall. Interesting times we live in.
It's a very tightly run professional operation.

K70 aperture block?

I see no need to delete your post - you have a valid opinion and concerns, and those concerns are understandable. But, since the level of aperture block failure on the K-70 seems very low at this stage, and none of us can see into the future, I'd respectfully suggest you're worrying prematurely. You're at just as much risk of buying a different model and having a completely different problem with that as you are of experiencing the aperture block issue with your K-70. In your situation, I would enjoy the camera and keep an occasional eye on the forums to see if the number of failures rises alarmingly... or simply deal with the problem if and when it occurs (most likely, it never will).
