Hi Eric,
Like Steve said, the Pentax K100D has no live view functionality. Another possibility is to use an old fashioned angle finder with 2x-4x magnification. If you need not a lot of magnification a magnifier eyecup Pentax O-ME53 may help you out.

The DA 14mm is indeed a very fine piece of glass. I love it on the APS-C bodies. The Sigma 20mm (I bought it new old stock in Jan 2016, before K-1 was on the market ) is on APS-C a mere 30mm, but in 35mm terms it is a counterpart of the DA 14mm, although I personally think that is not that awesome as the DA14mm lens is. But if your copy is solid than you certainly will enjoy the results, and I am using it without any reservation in any situation.
I also have a Sigma 17-35mm F/2.8-4.0 (35mm lens) which delivers the goods. But you will have to dial your AF micro-adjustment carefully in (short focus throw). And the focus-ring is rotating, so you have to have your fingers out of the way. It renders a little bit warm-ish.
Plenty enough to choose :D

Hi,
Congratulations, the DA* 300mm is indeed a fine, not too big, piece of glass. It is handy enough, and it delivers fine sharpness and colour. Like you did for the butterflies, I use it for e.g. flowers in order to isolate them, and still getting just enough depth of field in crowdy situations (e.g. Keukenhof) or in situations I can not physically go there for a more detailed shot. Also in the harbour of Amsterdam I am using it a lot for close-ups.
It is amongst my favourite Pentax lenses.

Hi,
As Mike said this is a known issue (let's say feature) of this lens.
I just dialed in a -10 AF fine adjustment on my K-1 in order to get PDAF just right. The image quality is very good though.
I just re-checked the Tamron lens using CDAF on my K-01, K-3 and K-1. Because I was remembering sloppy AF with less than optimal light situations for the K-01, so I never used this lens on the K-01 (thus CDAF).
On the K-01 it was okay-ish in a contrasty lightning situation, but it will hunt a lot in less contrasty lightning situations, and sometimes it is not focussing at all. No big improvement with K-3. The K-1 does a like bit better with no significant margin.
Even the old F 70-210 (F/4-F5.6) was performing a little bit better on the different bodies.
I did this morning the same test using the DA* 200mm, which did a bit better, but now it performed significant better on the K-1. The AF was snappier.
The CDAF of Pentax cameras is not that great though on those bodies. And the Tamron just magnifies it.
I hope this will help you out.
Kind regards, Ron

Instead of using my K-1, I used my Sony A7.
I have the F/2.8 and F/3.5 version but the generally spoken less sharp F/2.8 version is still doing a great job in color rendition, and the image is acceptable sharp on a digital body. DSC00865 by Ron, on Flickr

Congratulations,
Nice find.
So back in January 2018 I bought a new old stock MZ-30 including FA 24-70 F/4. Both brand new in pristine condition including boxes (EUR 70).
The MZ-30 is the film body I use for the Irix 11mm, because of its crippled K-mount. The 24-70mm is sometimes in use on my Z-1 body.
Good luck, and enjoy!

Thank you for your feedback.
The D-FA 100mm macro is indeed an excellent choice. Nice optic, it is sharp and it has a beautiful color rendition.

Hi Stephen,
Thank you for your answer on my question. As long the weight distribution is okay, I am fine with that.

Hi Stephen,
Thank you for sharing the photos. Also I am very curious how the results of the night shots will look like. How about your experiences with the weight balance of the K-1 and the 85mm attached to it?
Kind regards,
Ron

Hi,
I should not waste any money on that lens. Your current APS-C lens will do the job. I would personally like a sharp contrasty image more with fewer megapixels, than a muddy one with more megapixels. I still shoot nice macro shots with a K-01 or K-3. Figure out what you want to do. If you will do a lot of macro photography you will probably wanting a dedicated macro lens. Your current lens is also light, and may always find a spot in your camera bag.
Go out shooting and enjoy. You will experience if you want a telephoto, and if it has to be quiet. Then you can make a more profound selection, and your investment will pay off.
Kind regards, Ron

Hi jwquinn68,
That is fine with me, do not worry :)
I had the K10D, and it was a fine camera. However finetuning AF is in the debug-mode, and that is not everybody's cup of tea, Your K-70 is miles ahead, and nowadays it is more or less a standard option in the DSLR menu.
I have a couple of macro lenses, and I can confirm that the D-FA 100mm F2.8 Macro WR is one of my favourites. Its sharpness and colour characteristics suits my application. The bokeh wide open is absolutely fine, but be aware that closing down the aperture will lead to more harsh out of focus areas. That is the reason why I am using my DA* 300mm F4.0 instead, in order to obtain more depth of field and a smoother background for small objects. Sorry, I like flower photography
Some examples of the D-FA 100mm F2.8 WR Macro:
Macro use with shallow depth of field 100mm macro RV025019 by Ron, on Flickr
Normal use at F11 100mm macro (with use of polariser) RV024318 by Ron, on Flickr
Macro use with larger depth of the 100mm macro: RV024886 by Ron, on Flickr
Isolation of smaller subjects at F8 by using a telelens DA* 300mm: RV025272 by Ron, on Flickr
And last but not least an example of tuning the D-FA 50mm F2.8 macro: RV024022 by Ron, on Flickr
Be aware that the D-FA 100mm has no aperture control ring anymore. So if you are planning it to use on a old film camera or mirrorless camera, you have to deal with its limitations. The D-FA 50mm and the old D-FA 100mm do have an aperture ring. Like the older Sigma 50mm, 105mm and 180mm macro lenses.
Keep up the good work.
Kind regards,
Ron

Hi,
I am a little bit confused too, like Clackers. Your exif information is stating a Pentax 18-135, as mentioned in your profile. And I am also not aware of a 16-80mm Sigma to exist.
For macro it is important to have your focus point spot on, and your lens AF fine adjust for your camera when using PDAF. Or make use of Live-view.
You can fine adjust AF yourself easily.
Kind regards, Ron

Hi Lazar,
I have a Pentax Z1 (because I still shoot film alongside digital) , and be aware that e.g. an Irix 11mm will not fit too on a Z1 body. It is in need for a cripled mount (aperture simulator will be in the way). For film you may use e.g. a MZ-30 (cripled mount) or all the digital bodies.
Just in case you will ask.
Kind regards, Ron

That's why I was buying a Think Tank Glass Taxi. At one side the K1 with 150-450 attached (and lens hood reversed), and on the other side a super wide angle and short zoom. It is remarkable smaller then my Tamrac Expedition 7x, when I want not to carry that big beast around
For waterproof you have to use the supplied rain cover.

This barrage was renovated in 2005. It regulates the water level in the old Almelo-Nordhorn canal with the river Dinkel. The canal is closed for many years, and is now used for leisure purposes. Taken with Pentax K-1 and Sigma 17-35mm EX DG.
