Pentax Digital Spotmeter Question

No problem, my pleasure. It's great meter. I've adapted mine to indicate the zone system, just used excel spreadsheet to draw it up and sized it to fit around the barrel of the lens. I also bought a rubber lens hood to act as a bumper for protection from impact damage but it's pretty sturdy. The battery seems to last for years.

Pentax Digital Spotmeter Question

I'll check mine when I get home but as I recall, the outer ring rotates the eye piece lens until it the dioptre is corrected, then the inner ring tightens up against the body of the meter to hold it secure.

I had to pay about £35 for a camera from the Netherlands but surely it's not an issue with our tax system and is instead one of our Brexit benefits

I find I get more out of magazines dedicated to photography and photographers than I do with magazines such as Popular Photography. If you want technical advice, it's best to go for a decent text book, such as the three Langford books, Beginners, Basic and Advanced Photography.

Image Ratios

Loads of cameras offer these ratios and even the K1 offers 1:1 as well as 3:2 and even cropped to APSc. What I'd like is a crop to 6:7 to match my beloved Mamiya RB67 and for others, the Pentax 67.

but my faulty lens without spare parts, was the HD 21mm ltd f3.2 bought new in 2019, so it's not just affecting older lenses but current catalogue lenses.

After nearly twenty years use, my 43mm ltd developed a similar fault, limited rotation of the focus ring and John Pye were able to fix it, although this was three or four years ago. My fear now is what would happen if the fault returned with this or any other Pentax lens.

I've just had a similar experience with a Pentax HD 21mm f/3.2 lens, bought new in 2019. Just over a year after purchase and after the guarantee had run out, the lens barrel and focus ring became loose, it was sent to John Pye and repaired successfully, however 18 months later the fault returned. So I returned it to John Pye, that was a week ago, and it came back last Friday unrepaired and with the same response, parts unavailable. This is rather worrying for a lens that I've had for less than four years and a lens that is still in the catalogue and on sale. It makes me feel nervous about buying any other Pentax lenses and equipment. On a positive note though, John Pye was able to repair my old 50-135 lens, that had undergone major impact damage, I thought it was write off.

It's the same with the 21mm f/3.2 ltd. Mine was sent off with a similar fault a week ago and returned unrepaired as parts are no longer available.

My 21mm f/3.2 mentioned below, was also sent to John Pye.

Exactly, I have Manfrotto tripods with two mounts, the old hexagon and the newer square. An arca plate would be absolutely no use to me.

And winders on film cameras were always very noisy, especially when held close to the face. Better without.

I've used the 21mm f/3.2 on a K1ii cropped to square with interesting results with only a little vignetting at f/5.6-8.

I've had a few run ins with mods over there as well. Can you name names?

---------- Post added 03-23-23 at 01:52 AM ----------

That could sum up more than a few mods in the DPreview forums, especially in the open forum. One or two would blatantly troll discussions, taking them off topic and then accusing others of doing the same.

Well the Pentax group was a friendly place but the open discussion forum was toxic in the extreme, with moderators trolling discussion and pedantry and point scoring in abundance. Where gear rules all and with attitudes to actual photography ranging from indifference to outright hostility. i certainly won't be sad to see the forum go but the loss of the archived reviews will be of great consequence, not that they were very sympathetic to Pentax of late.

Not really, as the sensor in the Panasonic LX100 is much larger than the one on the Ricoh GX100/200. The former also has more flexibility and is much easier and more pleasant to use, the IQ is higer as well. I know because I have both versions of the GX100/200 and a Panasonic LX100.

What is the 70mm Ltd lens for?

The 70mmis excellent as a portrait lens on APSc, IMHO the 100mm would be too long for the purpose, with the head filling the frame, you'd have to stand to far from the subject for easy conversation.

Premium 9+ score vintage offerings vs Consumer 9+ score vintage offerings?

Actually the 90-105 mm focal lengths were always considered to be portrait lenses back in the 35mm analogue days, 135mm was the start of the telephoto range. So for APSc, the Pentax 70mm ltd would be an ideal choice.

Same here, I wanted to use my 43mm ltd and 35mm f/2.0 again without cropping, plus the extra detail and dynamic range. I've had a K1ii for three weeks now and I've not been disappointed but I'll still keep my K5 and KP when I need greater flexibility and to travel light.
