I have found this document:
GODOX PHOTO EQUIPMENT CO.LTD Measurement Report Test Report
on GODOX PHOTO EQUIPMENT CO.LTD 049
That is radio test report for TT685IIC and series model TT685IIN,TT685IIO,TT685IIP,TT685F,TT685IIS

Looks like Pentax version was planned and certified.

Maybe they have made a small batch for Pentax now?

The DA 16-85 and Infrared hotspots ?

I've already bought my lens and I am strongly satisfied.
I didn't notice any hotspot - but I didn't look hard. I wanted to buy a dedicated IR Chrome filter, but I didn't. I tested it with magnetic mount for my 82mm lens (via filter redution) - unfortunately there was heavy vignetting at wide angle. :(

Interestingly, I am able to screw 82mm through the filter reduction inside the lens hood. :)
Cheers to the removable piece of the lens hood. :)

Now I'm waiting for the IR 1000nm - it will be here in a few days (I took the 77mm - because from time to time it will go with the Tamron 70-200/2.8).

Anyone tested the improved AF in firmware v1.41?

Yes, I've needed some adjustment for using 150-450 with 1.4x pentax teleconverter - now I don't (but haven't got time for serious tests). As far as I do remember it was around 3 or 4 (don't remmeber if + or -), while just the lens was ok.

I've did done test by putting my camera on the solid tripod, use AF with viewfinder, then switch to live view with focus peaking extract edge - this quickly show the sharp focus distribution. I've repeated those steps a couple for time for 150-450 and +1.4x - it seems to look great.

In the past I've got hangs of the camera (sometimes I even had to take out the battery) - since 1.40 beta it is mostly (or even completely) gone.

My Pentax DFA 100 macro was so out of focus, that it was unsuable (unless I did manual focus), now it is looks to be right on spot.

So yeah, from my point of view it is great. :)

I've just managed to create ID and download firmware.
The URL for creating ID is: https://ricohimagingstore.com/customer/account/create/
The trick is, that it didn't worked for me when using google translate, so I've just open 2 tabs with the same URL:
one with translation, one without. I've filled fields without translating that page and it worked. :)

When you fill the address the field "Prefectures" is automatically set according to your postcode - so that might be another issue.

As for the address - I've used google maps to find some address with post code in Japan. :)

After creating account you will find beta firmware at: https://ricohimagingstore.com/customer/account/

If that still doesn't work for you.

The manual is available at:
https://ricohimagingstore.com/media/wysiwyg/pdf/astrotracer_type3.pdf

For firmware change the URL accordingly:
last directory in url - change from pdf to zip
file name is: k3III_v140.zip

Software Terms of Use are just the same as for normal firmware.

Have fun. :)

PF Pentax Interview 2021 - Question suggestions

First of all, please, thank Pentax/Ricoh for making great camera. K-3 III with PLM is great as photo camera. It allows me to take pictures that I thought were impossible. As for video it is quite a good one, but I think it can be even better. :)

1. Does Pentax planning to add some of K-3 III features to older bodies?
i.e. I would love to have Highlight-weighted metering in my K-1. Or focus peaking with extract edge.

2. Now that Pentax is the only solid DSLR manufacturer do they plan to have firmware releases with new features like other vendors do?

3. The most important set of questions for me are K-3 III and video related.
Video - K-3 III with PLM 55-300 lens is wonderful combination. The more I play with it, the more I like it. :)
3.1. When can we expect new video related features?
i.e. as European user, I'm missing 25/50p modes.
3.2. AF-C for non PLM lenses (like 150-450)?
3.3. Clean HDMI output?
3.4. 10-bit video?
3.5. Full sensor oversampling for video?
3.6. Extending time of video by automatically switching to new file when recording?

4. Is it possible to enable saving of photos/video to external USB drive (for K-3 III)?
Samsung T5 SSD are cheap and fast. It would be great if Pentax would allow us to use USB-C in the same way as BlackMagick does.
With the speed of T5 we could get unlimited burst mode. :)

5. And the last one. Any possibility to run my own programs on my K-3 III (as it is using Linux)? ;)

D-FA* 50 f/1.4 SDM - doesn't work (tested on firmware 1.0) :(

DA 55-300 PLM - work with AF-C
I set the focus point - and when I move the camera if refocus on that point.
Haven't tested it with other setting, yet.

Yes lot's of video like this one. 8]

Author of this video haven't seen K-3 III with his own eyes, but he is comparing it with another product. :(

Rules of engagement for Youtube influencers.
1. Be the first one to make a video about product.
2. No more rules.

IMHO do not waste your time to watch this.

IMHO for stills it doesn't matter.
But for video, when you defocus - you would like to have the same size of the subject.

Let me explain my point of view.

I need to make stills (photos), but I also need to make videos.
Mostly short ones, but sometimes I would love to be able to record full day of a conference.
I earn more money on videos then stills and because of my work that will only change in one direction - more videos.

Cheap video camera is not good enough in dim light.

Mirrorless might be a good option, but their video quality is poor comparing to BlackMagic 6K, or they are way to expensive with a set of lenses that I already have for Pentax.

So why I need good video in Pentax DSLR?
  1. I already own lot's of good lenses.

  2. I do not want to carry (size and weight) other system lenses.

  3. I do not want to pay for other system lenses.

  4. I could addapt Pentax lenses to other system but:
    1. There is no adapter for KAF4 lenses.

    2. There is no adapter with working AF for Pentax lenses.

I know, that video with DSLR means lot's of compromise. My dilema right now is:

  • Buy BlackMagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K and
    • do not buy new KAF4 lenses (because I will not be able to use them - no stop down).

    • buy EF lenses for new BMPCC 6K

    • try to work with Pentax K -> EF adapter (rotate the lens to stop it down :( )

  • Or hope for good enought quality 4k recording of k-new so I can spend my money on K-new + new KAF4 lenses.

I would prefer to have good enought 4K videos from Pentax, so I can spend my money on Pentax, but who knows.

That is how they should do that.
Talking right now about specs is dead end. There will always be a camera that has better specs for something.
There will be time to talk about specs when that camera is going to be released.

I've looked at the comments about Pentax on Photography sites. They are mostly positive right now, so the videos are working. :)

This is wonderfull lens.
I've bought it for my K-01, but it stays on my K-1. :)
That is great walkaround lens for K-1.
There is just one issue - it is not AW lens. :(

New information about new flagship's selling date

The more I look at that, the more I think that it is a very good design. Pentax know how to make their products easy to use.

There is mirrorless hype right now.
What Pentax is missing from mirrorless (in hardware):
- EVF
- short flange focal distance

Short flange focal distance means different mount, new lenses, hard to build converter.
That would anger customers. So it would be a very bold move with stagnating photo market.

EVF - is had for some and a must for the others, but what we need is a hybrid viewfinder., so we can use EVF/OVF depending of the need to do so.
Not EVF vs OVF but EVF or OVF when needed. Best of both worlds.

Now look at that wheel:
  • Normal photography - OVF.

  • Live view - EVF or screen.

  • Film mode - EVF or screen.

No need to add anything more to the wheel. It makes sense.
Easier to use that just a slider (with the gloves).

For me it would make perfect sense to be the wheel that we will use with hybrid viewfinder.
I just hope I'm not wrong. :)
