Not sure to be honest. On film so no record of it. I think it was Portra 400 though and a very sunny day so I expect at least F11, possibly F16.

Even if you’re resolutely in the first camp, when you buy a new lens for your APS-C camera I bet you’re doing the conversion factor in your head anyway so don’t pretend it’s of no use lol.

I use vintage Pentax lenses on my Sony A7RIII and they work really well. Shoot in aperture priority and they give you automatic exposure. Focus peaking allows very accurate and easy manual focusing and mirrorless means the digital viewfinder compensates for a stopped-down aperture complete with DoF preview allowing you to see exactly what you’ll get when you press the shutter.

Ricoh R1E flash and turning off weirdness

Thanks both. I have worked out the door thingy now and can confirm from the back also that the shutter isn't opening. I've also put in a new high quality battery and no difference. It's annoying that having sat in a cupboard for 15 years it worked fine but now I've been using it a few months it's stopped.

Ricoh R1E flash and turning off weirdness

Cannot figure this out.

My Ricoh R1E, which I've recently started using again after nearly 20 years has been great for a few months but has suddenly started turning itself off after every shot. Like turning it's own power off, lens retracting back in etc.

On top of this it doesn't flash either. Not in any of the flash modes. But it does, however, if you set it to red eye flash mode, actually fire the red eye flashes but not the main one with the shutter.

Just done some more tests and it appears the shutter isn't opening. I think that's why it doesn't flash and turns itself off as a warning. I suppose that's clever but how do I stop the shutter not opening?

I can't even work out how to keep the camera on with the back open to do a bit more testing. Any ideas on that either?

Any ideas? I could bin it but I love this thing!

OK thanks Rick. Now you've got me worried about my focal-plane shutter. Should I store that cocked or released?!

Can someone explain what store with the springs relaxed means for the leaf shutter lenses? I sort of assume it means with the shutter closed but not 100% sure. Obviously I can't see any springs on mine! Apparently Hasselblad recommend you store their LS lenses with the shutter 'cocked', which I think means open. The Pentax manuals I've found online for both 90mm and 165mm don't mention a storage protocol.
