Thanks to everyone for the excellent advice. I started by doing a factory reset on the K-3, made sure the lens was set to AF, cleaned sensors on both camera and lens and inserted a freshly charged battery. Success! In AF I can now switch the camera from LV to VF successfully! Now I'm going to do the same thing on my K-50 since I'm waiting for a new 55-300 PLM to be delivered...

Not new to the dslr hobby, but still learning. Having an issue with 3rd party lens. I have a K3 and a couple Pentax lenses, fa 50. 1.4 and a 18-135 wr. Both cameras work perfectly with either lens. I recently picked up a LN Sigma 10-20 3.5 ex dc hsm and it works fine in Live View, but but when I switch live view off, to use the viewfinder it will not focus or trip the shutter. The firm ware is updated to 1.43. Am I doing something wrong in set up or do third party lens operate this way? Or could the lens be defective?

Thanks for everyone’s help. No I didn’t unzip the file, not sure what that is 😊. We no longer own a computer (we try to do everything on our iPhones) so I’ll need to go back to the library and try again. I’ll be sure to look at the video as suggested. Thank you.

Hi, I’m trying to update the firmware on my, new to me, K-x which has ver. 1.00. I’ve gone through each of the steps to download ver. 1.03 to a formatted sd card. But after I insert the card and turn the camera on while simultaneously pressing menu button it does not install, just shows the current version. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks for any suggestions.

Hello, I am trying to update firmware on my new to me K-x. It currently has version 1.00. I followed the instructions, formatted an sd card, downloaded the 1.03 firmware from the Ricoh Pentax site, placed the sd card in the camera, turned the camera on while simultaneously pressing the menu button . Nothing updates, the screen shows ver. 1.00. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks for any suggestions.

Thanks to all for the warm welcome! I ended up purchasing the Pentax O-ME53 from Amazon. The forum is a great help. Once I get the eyepiece I’ll take a few pics and post.

Just picked up a k-x that’s in very good shape but needs a new eyecup. The manual calls for a FQ but I’m having no luck finding one. Does anyone know of another part number or replacement that would work? Saw a thread from a few years ago but the recommended possibilities are a dead end. Would appreciate any help.

Thank everyone for the recommendations! Although I ended up buying a very nice used k-50 kit with the 18-55 and 50-200 lens for 150. Everything seems to be working properly and keeping my fingers crossed that the aperture problem doesn’t pop up. If and when it occurs I’ll purchase another body, probably the k-5.
I have another question, although probably not for this thread, but here goes... I recently went computerless and downloaded all the photos from the laptop to a couple thumb drives. Is there any devise/cable available to transfer those pics from the flash/thumb drive to my iPhone/iPad? I’ve searched online and Amazon and really haven’t found anything.

Hi, new to the forum, have been an avid enthusiast for many years. Tired of using superzooms and fixed lens cameras, looking to get an older Pentax Digital and get back into dslr photography. Still have a couple decent old lenses from my me super.
