I've decided for a second go at a DFA 24-70 f2.8.. second because the first was not sharp at all and returned. This new lens is outstanding in its sharpness, all the images are handheld.
I have plans for automotive photography for this lens and I'm looking forward to using it in all conditions.
here are the first (test) shots after a little work in post.

I've ventured into the world of lighting and multiple images. I'm using a godox strobe light but still waiting for a xpro trigger to use with the K1. Here's the first real attempt to do this, it is my bike used for practice. any feedback is welcome. s1000rr by Ben M Wilson 29, on Flickr

any thoughts?
I'm interested in automotive photography and these photos were not taken in the best location or in the best light. I tried to make the most of what I had in photoshop.
I am waiting for some lighting equipment to organise some proper shoots. Mercedes C300 by Ben M Wilson 29, on Flickr Ford XB Coupe by Ben M Wilson 29, on Flickr

it was all for practicing a process, and it was the middle of the day in an open room with light coming from a window to the back right of the image. there are 6 photo's here. I intentionally underexposed the base image and added some light in different areas with the rest of the image underexposed. the light I added was for specific areas e.g the lens rim is added from one image, painted in with photoshop. 3 seconds allowed me to move the light I guess. it's zoomed at 80mm and at 60cm away from the subject I had a 7 cm depth of field roughly @ f22, and that gave me time too i guess. there is definitely room for adjustment.
I'll have a go at different products and see if i can manage the process and maybe shoot in a better area at a different time of day.
but overall the original normal exposed shot looks nothing like this one, so i am happy it kind of worked.

Hey all,
I'm after a bit of CC on this image. taken with the K1 and I am learning to use light in still photos. I have used a number of images with different light in each to create this picture.
I know I should have removed the UV filter on the camera beforehand but I'm not worried about that, it lives there after all, it's just what you see in the image that may not seem right or what you like that I am interested in. k1000 by Ben M Wilson 29, on Flickr

Thank you, I was surprised at the results and now I don't want to go anywhere without the lens :)
Also looking forward to developing the rolls of film I have with it and the k1000

Thank you, and thanks all for the comments.
Thank you!! it took some planning and time to get where I wanted to, I waited for 2 and a half hours until I couldn't stand the wind and rain, the energy was still alive in the storm. It's a great feeling.. As for the equipment, the trusty 28 - 105 outdoes itself again and again, I'm not in the habit of changing lenses in such conditions and it allows me to get a bit wet, and the K1, well when you get so used to your camera and its functions it becomes a delight to use when tested by conditions.
The quality of the image is pretty good to start with, i cleaned up some noise in Topaz Ai de-noise. it's a wonderful program.

Challenging conditions, some well needed weather sealing, many times wiping the lens and patience. Taken with a Miops trigger, not the best lightning strike but a stunning image with the clouds being lit up by it. I usually use a higher aperture and use a bulb setting but this image is cool. I love all the comments and stories, we aren't defined by gear and our photos aren't defined by our gear. i slight colour rendition here and a bit of sharpness there, faster autofocus here and more lenses there.. the choice is yours and mostly the photos are pretty close. For me, my K1 is a beast, it gives me my images without fail, every time I ask it to.
My Pentax strap on my camera is a smartass and wants to be on display most of the time, and when I wrap it around my wrist a few times it still manages to show its name.. i can't helo it, it just happens. lol
If I see a Pentax user I think 'there's a photographer'. at any level, that person will love taking photos and to me, that's what Pentax is about.. the love of photography.
thank you again, everyone!!

Thanks for the nice comments, the blue skies were persistent which were nice, I don't mind a clean sky. The road trip took me 13 days, it wasn't long enough but I had to get back to the Queensland border before it was locked down.
i think we all wear the Pentax badge with pride, and one day when I see another Pentax shooter out there in the wild.. (it's rare these days) we shall have a good time.
I realised that I have never used another brand of camera except for the Minolta my dad gave me to use when I went on a school excursion, I then saved my money to buy a Pentax, the rest is history

Minimalist Outback &;sunrise to the east by Ben M Wilson 29, on Flickr
Sometimes as a Pentax user, i feel like that tree when i get asked what I use to take photos.. the common question. when I say "Pentax", I say it with pride. Often though, if it's not the other big brands they really don't know anything else.
What can I say, as an amateur photographer wondering about how to go about making better images and to find the best quality photo I can... the quality of my gear never seems to worry me, I'm confident I can get the photo I imagine before I take the shot with Pentax. The full frame camera is perfect as I had a couple of carry over lenses from the film days, even though I don't use them so much now. I don't use the biggest and the best lenses as I really don't have the budget and the wife to allow me to get them so I use a lot the 28 - 105mmand then these 70-200mm, 14mm, 31mm, and a macro lens when I feel like it.
I drove from Cairns to Melbourne with the intention of taking photos to keep, I didn't have a plan but to only spend one day in Melbourne and the rest just moving around while I visited people.. the camera didn't always tag along, unfortunately. I was lucky to get some nice weather and nice scenery when I had it with me
There are Pentax users out there somewhere!! Pause by Ben M Wilson 29, on Flickr
The K1ii is the best camera I have ever owned, it took a little bit to get to know it, but now that I do, I love it, I love that my fingers know exactly where every button is, what the dials do and at what ease everything is to do on the camera. I know it's not the ultimate camera and it has its flaws, so I'm told but to be honest, none bother me. Yarra perfect day by Ben M Wilson 29, on Flickr
Maybe I'm nuts but sometimes I think my camera has feelings when I see the images. When I came back from my trip, I noticed on gumtree that someone selling all their Pentax gear as they were getting out of Pentax, I thought about it for a while and after I sat down beside my camera, I felt like there's no way in the world I would switch brands

This shedding python in the scrub, i was close enough for this photo, it has been cropped, I was far enough away to not annoy it too much. the eyes look cloudy as this is part of the shedding process.

they do the same thing here, we get cyclones, and they also provide and healthy environment for so many different species of animals and fish.. I was going to get a closer look but I had a creek to cross and there are so many crocodiles in our waterways that I wouldn't be game to pass through the water when I can see what's in it.. maybe next low-low tide i can make it through.
