Da* 300mm f4 or 55-300 PLM with 1.4x teleconverter

Thanks for the responses!
Based on the answers I ditched the idea to get the 55-300 PLM and the teleconverter.
DA 300mm is quite expensive, I have to think about it for a while.

So now I'm wondering about using the 1.4x teleconverter with the Tamron 70-200 f2.8, has anyone tried this?

Hi everyone!

I need some advice on long telephoto for my Pentax system. I plan on buying the 1.4x teleconverter (the new one) and some telephoto for it.

I will primarily use it for landscape (in places like Moravské Toskánsko, Tuscany and some national parks here in Poland) and some mostly static wildlife.
So no birds-in-flight or sports that would require shooting wide open or super fast autofocus. I suspect I will use it mostly on tripod and/or stopped down aperture.
However, based on my previous experience in these locations, the 33-300 PLM lens would be used in the 200-300 mm range quite often.

So here are my questions:
- given the big difference in price between these lenses (DA 300 vc 55-300 PLM) is it really worth getting the DA 300mm? how big is the difference in sharpness if shooting stopped down to say f 8 or f 9?
- do they work equally well with the 1.4x teleconverter?
- I already have the Tamron 70-200 f 2.8. Should I just buy the teleconverter and stick with the 70-200 plus crop or high-res mode?

I appreciate any opinion on the matter, thanks!

What lenses do you use on your KP?

Most of the time I use the collapsible 18-50mm zoom. Others that pair well with the KP are 35mm f2.4, DA 21mm, sometimes FA 50mm f1.4. I like the camera for it's small form factor, thus the small lenses

Upgrade Question - Upcoming ASP-C Flagship or K1 Mk ii ?

I have the K5iis, the KP and K1 mark I. The jump in image quality going from K5iis to Kp is noticeable, especially if you need the higher resolution or low light performane. However, it is not a huge jump and most pictures, especially in a controlled environment like the studio will turn out quite similar.
The difference when going full frame is much more noticeable, and the K1 is just super nice to handle too. Don't get too hung up on the talk on equivalence, high ISO noise performance etc. The biggest real advantage in going FF is that it puts less sharpness demand on lenses and it's generally easier to obtain sharp photos that "pop"

Tough decision really, I think moving to FF is great as long as you can afford to buy new lenses or you existing ones work with FF, a lot of the DA lenses won't work with it.

As far as the new APS-C flagship that is rumored- I can't imagine they will offer that much of an improvement over the KP really. Unless they plan on really upping the game in AF performance or video. Or planning to implement computational photography. Both quite unlikely..
