Don't think I saw the hexagon.
AF selected on left hand side of camera, Camera set to P, Lens locked on 'A', pressed shutter half way, pressed AE-L saw a small star in bottom of viewfinder then tried to take the shot but wouldn't fire. Refocused elsewhere and shot taken OK.. Altered AF to MF and shot then taken. What am I missing? :-)

Last question (hopefully) then I'll leave you folks alone. Just back from a walk to take a few shots and found that when the setting is AF and using the P function with the SMC pentax-A 1:2 50mm lens the camera sometimes won't fire. If I change the view it will and also if I move the switch to MF. The AF mode in settings is set to 'S' but seems to work if I change it to the 'C' option. Help again appreciated.

Sorry to be a pain, I really enjoy using the camera just struggling to properly understand.it. I used to have an ME Super thats the reason I bought this one. Cheers

One question I forgot to ask was when using the P , AV TV or other settings with auto focus lenses do I have to set the focus button from AF to MF? Cheers

Doh! just tried to upload another post but it disappeared hope this doesn't duplicate:

Altered the sharpness and been for a walk to take some more pics. Changed the lens to a SMC Pentax-A 1:2 50mm and took pics on mostly the P setting plus the AV. What a difference! What do you guys think?? When using auto does it remember the changed sharpness setting or does it override it? I'm definitely getting there with it now thanks to you guys. Delighted with the ones I've taken.

Thanks for replies folks much appreciated. I've tried to alter the sharpness and contrast settings but cant figure out how to. The options are shaded in grey and won't allow me to make changes. Quality level is set to 3 stars. Can't really make sense of the handbook instructions. (Sorry to appear thick!) Cheers

This is my first DSLR which I've now had for some months and have to say I'm disappointed with the pics it takes. They all appear soft to me I was expecting much sharper images and would appreciate some help. I'm hoping it may be just settings. I'm very much an amateur shooting mainly in auto mode. I've several manual lenses from an old film SLR that I've been playing with but would like to sort the auto side out first! (Look out for more posts!:) )

Two pics attached and would be really grateful for comments on the quality and if they could be improved. Don't want to use any additional software to correct just want to take decent pics.

Cheers.

I'm using a K110D with a Pentax 35-80 zoom. Just recently some shots have been corrupted showing split images (see sample attached). Anyone any idea why this is happening? Taken about 40 pics today and its happened on three of them. Help appreciated. Cheers

Bought a 50mm Pentax A 1:2 for twenty quid which seems to give much better results and I find easier to us when locked to 'A' . Pic attached for interest taken from inside my house. I set the dial to 'M', and the AE-L button on M exposure to AV shift. Pressed the fire button half way then the AE-L button before taking the shot. Do you think the settings are OK? Can see some marks in the 'sky' looks like the lens may need cleaning. Cheers

Thanks Serkevan - just bid for one on Ebay. I'm not attached to the Chinon lens and if it makes it easier for me to understand some of the technical issues its money well spent. I've found all the comments useful and will try and put them into practice this week when I'm on a trip to Fort William in Scotland. I still have the auto lens that came with the camera but would like to use two zoom lens's I also have. I may well be returning to this topic shortly. :-) Thanks again everyone. The camera may be quite old but I really like using it. Cheers.

Determining shutter speed and F/stop is where I get lost. Is there a chart that gives an indication which speed to use for each stop? Also should I set 'AE-L btn on manual exposure' to Programme line, TV Shift or AV shift or does this not matter? Thanks for your patience guys :-)

Thanks again for replies three pics attached all taken on the chinon at 2.8, 5.6 and 16. The aperture ring is set to permitted. Think the AE-L button was set to program line when these were taken. Once again many thanks for your help. :-)

Thanks for all the comments folks much appreciated. I shot about fifty pics yesterday over the lakeland fells but with very unsatisfactory results. I doubt this is the lens's fault as I'm struggling to understand how to determine the correct exposure. In the finish I left it on 5.8, the button was set to manual, pressed the fire button half way then AE-L. If I selected another F stop the result was terrible. Really want to use my old manual lenses. I've spent ages reading forum posts but still struggling. If anyone could direct me to how to sort this issue out be very grateful. I appreciate I'm in the wrong forum at the moment but thanks lads.

I have a Pentax K110D and and old chinon 50mm lens which I'm trying to get to grips with (I'm very much a newbie) but really enjoying using the camera. Can I ask if anyone has an opinion on which is the better lens the chinon or the Pentax. Could anyone tell me also what the 'auto' means on the chinon. Cheers

Can't believe I have to ask such a daft question but I've only just bought a K110D and I'm worried I might damage it if I get it wrong. AA's are clearly marked as up or down but the CR's don't have top or bottom terminals. Help appreciated. Cheers

Has anyone any experience using these in a K110D - are they any good? Tried normal NiMH AA's but don't last long at all. Just bought some CR-V3's but would prefer to use rechargeables. Searched the forums and they seem quite highly rated but can't find anything specifically relating to my K110D (which I've just bought) Comments appreciated. Cheers.

Hi all, I've had a an old ME super in my cupboard for years gathering dust whilst I used a small pocket digital but always hankered for a digital SLR as I just loved the action of the old ME. I'm just a simple point and shoot type of bloke but decided to treat myself to a used K110D off Ebay the other day as I read it could use all my old lenses from the the ME. The camera arrived and is in really good condition and came with some 3000MaH rechargeable batteries. However I soon found out I may have let my heart rule my head as the batteries depleted after about 20 shots. I've spent quite a long time reading previous posts re batteries and ordered some CRV-3's and some new rechargeable AA's. By the sound of things I've wasted my money with the rechargeables but hope that the CRV-3's will solve the problem as I really love the camera. I've also spent a long time trying to find a download for the PDCU without success so any help appreciated. As I said earlier I'm not much of a techie and to start with just want to set the camera to Auto till I get used to it. I also just want JPEGs instead of RAW files as I can't easily view what I've snapped on my PC. If anyone looks at this post I would appreciate any comments re my problems. Cheers.
