Originally the *ist DL only supports up to 2GB cards. You need the last firmware to read high capacity cards. Press menu buttom when powering up the camera and firmware version will be shown. The firmware version to read high capacity cards is 1.03.
To update the firmware you will need a card with up to 2GB capacity.

I have a $20 ebay diagonal split screen in my *ist DL. It works perfectly, no need to compensate exposure metering.

You need to short the contacts on camera mount to get focus confirmation. Try with an aluminum foil. ---------- Post added 04-08-20 at 02:46 PM ---------- And focus with the lens wide open. Then close to the desired aperture.

The K10d also does digital preview. You have to set it in C Custom set menu. It is under Preview Method. The default setting is optical preview, that closes the aperture in the lens. My *ist DL also works that way. I think that all Pentax models that have this switch in the on-off wheel work that way.

The camera has a combination (shutter) of shutter speed and aperture for each exposure value (EV) programmed in memory. Think of EV as the amount of light or brightness of the scene. The program line is this set, recommended for the situation.
This article explain this in detail: Pentax Green Button Guide - Articles and Tips | PentaxForums.com
See the graph in the article to understand.
When the camera is in manual mode M, with a lens without aperture ring or lens with aperture ring in position A, the green button sets the aperture and shutter speed according to the program line. If the lens has an aperture ring out of position A or an M or K lens, the green button sets the shutter speed for the aperture selected on the lens.

I checked my k-x and *ist DL. In k-x we can use the green button or the AV button to obtain the correct shutter speed automatically, in M mode with a lens with aperture ring. In *ist DL the button to be used is the AE-L button. Same result in both cameras, the shutter speed set correctly. ---------- Post added 12-21-19 at 03:31 PM ----------
You have to set Green Button function to Green Button, and not to Optical Preview. Then it will appear two options bellow Green Button. One for M Mode and other for Program Mode.

The K-X has its own green button. The older cameras as the ist series do not have green button.

In my K-X, the green button is set to P-line in M mode.
When I press the AV button in M Mode the lens stops down to the ring setting and sets the correct shutter speed. It is the same behaviour as I press the green button.

You must set the manual exposure mode (M in dial). Then, when you press the green button, the camera sets the shutter speed to the correct value. Nothing more is needed.
