I started with the K5 and then to film cameras... now the only pentax i have are the MEsuper, the MZ-3 and the K2dmd

Is Pentax still appealing for beginners in photography?
no,at least not for digital photography... there is a great revival of film cameras and pentax (k mount or m42) is maybe one of the best choice.
The DSLR suffer the lack of third party maker lenses, cheaper modern lenses, AF speed, and not forgetting the aperture block failure problem even in newest model like the K70.
For beginners, for me, the best choice is a mirrorless: small,portable, you can adapt every lenses (maybe you have a film camera with lenses from parents..) and if you like video, even the cheapest model have a better quality than the pentax.
I think that in a future not so far DSLR would be only for professionals with high level models and ML would have the midlevel segment. Can be a joke but ricoh could think in making a new film camera to promote the reflex experience..

for me, fuji X-H1 is what a mirrorless K3 would be: not so compact, well balanced with tele lenses and a very good EVF.
in this months i've used a fuji xt1 with a simple K To fujiX adapter and well.. my k3 is, sadly, in a drawer since november..:confused:
maybe pentax would get some new customers..

I think that a person that always used nikon or canon, tried ML cameras and would come back to DSLR, will never choose pentax.
Pentax market will not improve: will be the same or will shrink.
So, why not try to have an alternative way?
Many would like to see pentax join the L mount and they could be right: It could become the budget part of the alliance.
Then continue to develop DLSR..

Pentax is the third DSLR manufacturer due to the fact that there are only 3 companies left (Sony A mount unfortunately is a dead one) :confused:
A Pentax/Ricoh ML hypothetical camera should have an existing mount (Like L, E or M43) or, if they want to keep "all in the family", adapt the Q mount to a bigger sensor (apsc would be fine) and make it OPEN.
maybe could be the time that every manufacturer understand that for the market, the only needed thing is a common shared mount

The biggest difference between MZ3 and MZ5n is the max shutter speed.. 1/4000 vs 1/2000
If you love a more traditional camera style go with MZ3-5 (dial knobs, using the aperture ring, small and light); if you prefer the DSLR style (shutter/aperture dial gears), Z1/Z1p is the solution. ;)

K mount is the blessing and the curse of pentax.. a Kmount ML camera has no sense because you can't adapt every mount like the others and even adapt m42 would be tricky as with DSLR; even nikon made a new mount for ML. Better sharing an existing mount and make a K to (that bayonet) AF adapter like the LA-EA4 for Minolta AF to Sony E.
And thinking, better make Aps-c cameras: there are still chances in that segment ; or medium format ( a ML pentax 67 f.e.).

i don't think that a ricoh brand camera would have the same appeal that a pentax brand camera.. I agree with a selection of fast primes like 35-50 or a 24-50 f4 zoom as first lenses and that they should have aperture ring... but with a reflex shape. They could simply use the MZ-3 (or the MZ1 concept) or maybe the MZ-S design..

and consider that being part of the alliance ricoh could start selling their lenses directly (no more Pentax DFA50 / Tokina Opera 50mm) to a large market share... Maybe calling these new lenses "Takumar" ;)

A digital Pentax 67 would be a dream.. the bad is that already exists something similar and it's not a Pentax :(

I have the K3 but, in this moment i would prefer the KP.. better IQ, High iso resolution, tilt screen and 5 axis stabilization and lightweight

i can zoom from 75 up to 200 and focus without problems but if the subject is far 10 meters from me i can't focus it... and that's pretty strange

Thanks for the reply! The problem is that even in MF i can't focus to infinity.. i think that some glasses are misplaced. it's a legacy zoom, so i don't know if repair it or not :(
