This photo was taken a few years ago from the Makena Beach Resort on Maui. I don't believe the place is still in operation. The tiny island is Molokini Crater.

Taken today at the Fort Wayne air show. According to my download, I took over 600 pictures today...so, I have some reviewing to do.
I thought about shooting these at F16, but decided to go with f11:).
I edited this on my new (to me) laptop, and haven't calibrated the screen yet. I probably start the other edits on the pc.

Small paper wasps having a nest in our garden.
I isolated this one. Heavily cropped and reduced.
I could only establish that they are from the Genus Ropalidia and about 10mm long.
Second image gives an idea on how well they blend in with their nest. (Focus on the one top left)
Thanks for looking. :)

Sleeping... They lock their mandibles onto a twig, pull their legs up against their bodies and doze off.
Critique always welcome.
Best.

I have not seen a dedicated " Pre - insect " thread, so I have started this one. I would enjoy seeing all the different stages of insect life from around the world, but not the insects they turn into, as there are already excellent threads covering this. So anything from egg clusters, caterpillars, grubs, pupa, cocoons etc. If you can name the species, great. If you can't ( like me !! :D ), no problems. I am going to start the ball rolling with a " Big Green Grub " or a BGG for short.:lol: |

Sent to photograph this desirable property again (I did it about three years ago) and to be honest it's not looking any better, it certainly has more structural support on it now.
Here's my poetic version of the estate/realtor agent blurb describing the place.
Desirable detached property, could benefit from some decorative updating and a little refurbishment to the extensive grounds.:lol::lol:

My friends, I hope you will allow me the indulgence of posting photos that I've probably posted at some time in the past. The fact is, I'm at the point in my life that I can no longer venture out afield and take photographs like I used to enjoy so much. I'm now confined to a motorized wheel chair but I still get out and about when the weather will permit. I have always enjoyed the interaction, advice and camaraderie here on the PF and I would like to continue, if I may. However, unfortunately, most of my posts from now on will be of images I've shot in years past when I was more mobile. Thanks for your understanding.

I'm under no illusion that this was a perfectly planned, every day shot! It was strictly luck and I know it! I couldn't duplicate it again in a thousand tries. This was taken at the World Center for Birds of Prey, just outside Boise, Idaho. It was my first outing with the old Pentax-M 400mm lens.
I had my camera/tripod positioned and prefocused, just HOPING something would come my way. The eagle owl was released from an enclosure quite a distance from the viewing public and as luck would have it, she was flying straight toward me. I thought the the intensity of the eyes were amazing.

It was difficult to cop with the speed of gull. Still Kp + Tamron combo worked beyond expectation even though it was cloudy and low light.

Saw the clouds of drama unfolding on the local mountain this morning. Grabbed my telescope and went out to grab a few frames. Missed the best light by about a minute but got this one. Super hard to focus with the telescope, very narrow depth of field where even the trees directly in front of the mountain would be out of focus. Trying to focus via the eyepiece is a no go, and in live view the image jumps around like crazy with the slightest motion. So, a challenge. But think I pulled it off and got the mood I wanted anyway.
