Tamron 90mm macro weird thing happened

I contacted 3 repair businesses, no one will touch this Tamron, main reason is that Tamron isn't supporting this lens any longer so parts are really hard to get, all 3 said that they probably would have to ship the lens to Tamron in Japan and hope for the best.
Not very promising. One shop suggested that the lens has most likely been dropped at some time in the distant past and that it probably bent something inside of the focus ring. Asked for a series of pictures so that he could see if perhaps something was out of alignment
So fired of 22 pics each with a different f stop and his take was that everything looks to be in place as far as the glass goes which was a positive on that point. Great manager of that repair store, at least he was friendly as opposed to the folks at Tamron!!!

---------- Post added 06-28-22 at 08:33 PM ----------

I have to say, the pictures are fantastic, no complaints there. Just the darn focus is very sticky...a real turn off when trying to catch that wolf spider that is hanging around my tomato plant. He is actually getting more friendly, today I was actually able to sit in a chair about 2 feet from him, at first he was suspicious that I was going to eat him but after a couple of minutes he chilled out and went about his business looking for lunch. When I try to focus in manual with the Tamron he gets skittish as hell, maybe it's that he is looking at the glass and he thinks it is my eye? or something about to munch him so he slips behind the tomato stem and peeks around at me to see if I have a fork and knife or???
OH by the way, the clutch is a real PIA. I do think that there could be a problem if you have the lens on manual and the camera on AF, weird things happen and maybe, just maybe that is what happened to me.

hey, I have that same problem with my copy as well. It goes in and out buzzing like crazy hunting for focus but will not ever settle on anything very close.
and all this time I thought I was the only one with that problem! I tried af yesterday eve on a nice brilliant rainbow...ended up blurring the colors so bad it was unusable.
honestly...I am about ready to put this lens back on ebay and let someone else deal with the problems and buy me a Pentax 100 Macro. I think I would be ahead of the game!

around these parts it's called a " Trillium grandiflorum" some will have a light blue or even a bit of red in it. Also called "white wake-Robin". Can become quite invasive if not controlled

Yes I can focus manually, Yes the collar does slide forward for af or back for mf, the limit switch works, I can see the screw shaft as it moves up and down, I cleaned the contacts. The lens in mf is hard to get the focus exact since the collar is very jerky, almost like if a gear needs oil or grease on a machine in your shop. it's very jerky when the collar is all the way in and as it goes out it is all but unusable as focusing bounces in and out, as the collar is turning the barrel out ward and the lens gets longer it once again becomes very "sticky" for the last say 1 1/2 turns till fully extended.
Here's the kicker...about a month ago I contacted "TAMRON SERVICE" and first thing they wanted to know was the serial #, upon which the girl said "sorry but we cannot accept your lens for repair and adjustment because your serial # is not in our USA data base, therefore you must have bought the lens from a third party in another country". Basically she was saying that if you don't buy TAMRON lenses from a retailer that is a TAMRON retailer from the USA they will not even consider looking at it!!!
SO BE FOREWARNED FOLKS, IF YOU DID LIKE I DID AND BOUGHT IT ON EBAY GOOD LUCK GETTING IT REPAIRED AT A TAMRON REPAIR FACILITY.!!!!!!
I really like this lens, it produces beautiful colors, and OMG some of the MACRO's i have shot are amazing...if you can get focus right. It takes a very careful hand that's for sure

Never been a problem before, have used numerous other lenses but all was well.

MY COPY OF THE 90MM tAMRON IS
Tamron sp af Di 90mm 1:2.8 macro 1:1
Other than that incident there has not been much to complain about except for the focus at times is a bit jerky, not very smooth. Perhaps that is why the original owner sold it on ebay

But still with that being said, how do explain how the lenses motor keep running after shutting off the power? Had to remove the battery for it to stop

No, both were set on manual, even the selector knob on the top was on manual at the time. I have to admit though, the lens was a ebay deal, the lens in auto everything has a extremely hard time finding focus, it goes nuts searching, then when it finally stops it's not in focus. Also when manual focusing there are some positions where the turning of the focus barrel snags like its in need of lube. Glitches galore with this lens

I was shooting some flowers in the backyard an hour ago with my K70 and Tamron 90mm macro lens when the weirdest thing happened. Perhaps someone else has had this same thing happen to them as well.
So I was shooting in AF barrel tab on full and camera on the AF setting, so I push down the shutter release button and it focused, but then when I pushed the shutter release all the way down to actually take my shot suddenly it sounded like the motor was running in the lens and it wouldn't take the picture, it continued to whir away like it was trying to focus, I turned off the camera, still kept whirring, tried to move the lens barrel in and out and it wouldn't move and I didn't try very hard either for fear that it would break something for sure.
The darn motor would not stop running, I thought that with the camera turned off that would prevent everything from running! It didn't! So my only option then was to pop out the battery which did stop the whirring and then I was able to once again focus with both manual and AF.
That my friends was the craziest thing happened to me today! Any clues as to what happened?

I dabble in Leather from time to time when I feel the urge. I recently posted in the new lens contest a pic of some tools and someone asked me to post some items that I have made, so here's one of many. I don't have hardly any pictures of my work because I don't bother photographing them before I send them off to my customers. This is a cover for my wife's Kindle I made a few years back.
