Do you know what it is like to discover a batch of unprocessed pictures that you thought were forever gone?
I found a secluded SD card from exactly a year ago.
I don't know how it got "secluded," but my wife has a way of blaming things on my memory cells--"they are too old!"
(That cannot be the explanation; I knew very good and well about that SD card, I just wasn't ready to find it yet!). :D
Anyway this is a special find for me, since this was a special trip I had taken just for the specific purpose of photographing the beginning of Spring in California--a very brief momentary time in the long, hot year of sunny California days.
Here we see grape vines on one of the very large grape plantations in Central California.
They look nothing at all like they will look after a couple of weeks into the spring sunshine.

Actually, I think this was a young cow (female) and was probably only interested in seeing if I had a handout of an apple or something.
But it was a bit of nerve-wracking tension to stare at those sharp horns and implacable eyes!
With bovines (cattle), I would know what I was looking at and dealing with, but with these buffalo (bison!), I don't have much experience.
Anyway, it looked like I could make some kind of an image out of it, once it had plodded its way up into my camera's lens. :D

The grandson is a worthy reason to visit a faraway place, I've come to believe.
The addition of wild animals to the scene is even better.
Thanks for the note.

I have seen these beasts come very swiftly out of rest!
Your advice is good!
Thanks for sharing your perspective.

Low key in a red rose is really nice!
The rich red does well in that setting.

That color really stands out in a rose!
Seems like a color for a poppy, and when it appears in a rose, it really captures my eye!
Impressive.

So delicate looking, and yet so substantial looking!
These roses are amazing.

My eyes, I've been told, do not see red perfectly.
So I cannot comment on your evaluation of red.
But it seems quite red to me!

Glad to see your transition from So. Cal. to PNW.
I grew up living in both places, and was absolutely amazed at the things of nature--such variety--as a youngster.
Your So. Cal. images, transferred now to Puget Sound really "ring a bell" with me!
Keep shooting!

The wonder of photography--you can make something so interestingly complex out of something so very simple.
Or, vice-versa!
That image could catch an eye wherever it was mounted.

Thanks for the interpretation and translation from Mike and Tony--I have a bit of an idea what they are doing.
But the interesting thing is the study of just observing three gentlemen of one era in life--mature--and yet completely different in personality under the observation of your camera.

I also see the same thing Mike said: "The bird does appear a little pensive,..."
Good image!

I think you must be very glad to have moved into the digital age!
You wouldn't have pockets big enough to carry all the rolls of film that you would need in that place!
Colors and flowers everywhere!
Sure some colorful images you captured.

Very good decision to go view these "folks of the forest".
(I read it literally: Bahasa Indonesia -- "orang" = "person", "hutan" = "forest".)
They do, in your pictures, look like they are people of a forest family.
Really good shots! I'll bet you had a wonderful time standing there watching and shooting them!

You saw another one of those abstractions in normal life, and you made a shot of it!
The viewer cannot keep from looking right into the image--even from the tiny thumbnail.
And B&W does it perfectly.

I like your ability to vary your images and make them come out very well.
I hate trying include light in the background of my flower shots, since it makes it hard for me to put the focus on the bloom, but you did it very well here!
In fact, the light here very much enhances the bloom, along with the bud above it.

You do have some of the most amazing pieces of wood in your backyard!
The ornamentation that you find on them is immaculately done!
That Ladderback Woodpecker perfectly graces that weathered chunk making it look like what it really is--a fantastic part of nature.
Or, is it the supremely fine photography that does it?
That bird should bring you a special treat he captured out of that old piece.
Some special skills you display here!

A closely discerning eye will quickly notice that the point of focus is the middle wire in this rangeland fence.
Some critics evaluating the image on its artistic basis might wish the focus was otherwise, but my focus was, I can assure you, very much on this wire!
Other items in the image might command the attention of another viewer, based upon their interest, but those items were merely supporting features to enhance the interest in the wire!
Critical piece of photography equipment was the 20-40mm lens, and otherwise of note is that the image is cropped only slightly.
I was standing pretty close to the fence trying to make a good landscape shot, when one of the "supporting articles" in the image walked up and stared at me.
The wire suddenly became the focus!
:D

I didn't know "blue" herons were actually so blue!
Those wing ends display it vividly.
What a huge wing spread!
