Lovely. I went to Les Landes years ago and loved it and the Ile d’Oleron unite recently and that was fantastic too.
Beautiful places and great wine!

Thanks for this. In my head I was hoping for the versatility that a 28-80 used to offer in 35mm. The DAL cover most of my wide angle needs but I wanted something for portrait work & compatibility with my 35mm bodies would be good too.
After a really thorough clean and using LV to focus the lens performance has improved a bit on the Kx.
I might look out for one of the old fixed 24mm Sigmas as they will be cheap as chips. I owned one years ago on my OM2 and it was a great lens.

ironically I had a roll of Pan F that expired in 2011 that’s pre paid, so using that, although 50ASA is a bit limiting around here at this time of year.
I once used and self-developed a roll of HP4(!) that expired in 1971 when I was at school in the late 80’s. It wasn’t brilliant but there were still ok images, just looked like everything had been dipped in custard.
Bet the hipsters would have loved a bit of that in their Zenit!

Thanks I’ll have a look.
The weather and a spot of ill health are conspiring against my 2 loves at the minute, photography and cycling. Hopefully get back to both soon

Hi Rob
yeah, I'm not sure how much use the film camera will get. I dug it out as I wanted to use the lens on my Kx but also to try and teach my daughter how to take 'proper' pictures.
slightly shocked at how much 35mm film costs and have got hooked on the instant gratification of digital. However film does make you work a bit harder and think things through a bit. Got to be a good thing really!

The main reason I ended up digging my 35mm cameras out of the loft was that I was disappointed with the sharpness of the DAL 18-55.
I shoot a lot of low light stuff and find the DAL combined with riding ISOs have yielded quite poor results on the Kx.
I dug my tripod out too.
Needless to say the weather has been non-stop wind and rain since I did (it is Northern England in November of course)!

I worked in a camera shop in the late 80’s and I know the 50f2 was always fairly poorly regarded. I have a 50f1.7 too but I decided to experiment with putting the f2 on and was very pleased with results. It was an exceptionally clear and bright day and I was shooting at ISO 200 so that will obviously have helped.

Thanks for that. On reflection that makes a lot of sense. Film was really quite forgiving. I will be interested to see what the results look like from the P30 when i get them processed.

Hi to everyone from beautiful Northumberland in Northern England.
Home to lots of sheep, a gorgeous river, fantastic (if chilly) beaches, a tragically under-performing football club and a really big old wall.
I have been using Pentaxes for about 35 years, starting with an MG, then fell of the rails for a bit and went with Olympus but rejoined the path of righteousness with a Super A about 20 years ago.
i have had a Kx for about 8 years and have recently been given a P30.
I'm suddenly feeling the love for photography again and want to try and expand my knowledge and solve any snags I hit along the way and this seems a good way to do it.
Even feeling the urge to get that Spotmatic I always fancied!

hi everyone,
I recently bought a second hand Pentax SMC 28-80mm lens at a local camera shop. It appears to be in good working order and the optics are clean, bright etc.
I have used it in good light conditions on my Kx digital body in manual focus mode and with shake reduction turned off. however I've been quite disappointed with the results.
On uploading them to the computer they appear quite grainy and fine detail is not as sharp as I had hoped even on distant objects focused on 'infinity'.
I'm also using the same lens on my non digital P30 body which I have reactivated after several years in the loft. I have not finished the roll of film in that camera (which is out of date anyway by a few years!) so I can't really make a fair comparison.
Paradoxically, using the 50mm f2 lens off the P30 on the Kx has produced some of the clearest, best lit pictures the camera has taken for quite some time.
I look forward to hearing if anyone else has had similar experiences with this kind of thing.
As I recall from my time working in a camera shop in the 80's the Pentax 28-80 was a highly sought-after and respected lens.
thanks
