Repair Q - ME Super where the shutter won't latch. Ideas?

thanks @Aaron28. yea the spring appears and feels in good shape, although it'll break as soon as I say that out loud... the winder action seems as it should. And yes exactly mechanical cameras don't need batteries, that's just convenience. These kids today! I mean, as long as it's daytime and you remember your sunny16, 1/125th is not much of a limitation.

Sadly the shutter not cocking is a problem, and mechanical. That loud click has to involve something that should latch, that's not catching it's "primed to fire" or whatever latch.

Thanks for the reply @titrisol, that page has been around since the internet was 9600 dialup and everyone used AOL. :-) Henry's & John's teardowns are great references for technical camera/lens knowledge and just geeking out, and I promise I already searched the kyphoto archive at rangefinderforum. I've tried the "resetting" trick (from the "3 biggest ME problems") and holding the advance latch over doesn't cause a reset of the 2nd curtain spring sequence. I guess it could be and I'm not doing it right, again, I'm not an SLR repair tech. (doesn't cover the not latching part, or should I say what causes it, it's more targeted to the latching but shutter won't trip sequence, when the lever won't advance. Those are definitely common, just like sticky mirror. Probably why the page(s) focus on it.)

I was hoping to avoid a full teardown, it's only worth doing because it's mine. I guess I could pick up a ~$15 ebay one and convince myself it's mine and use this one as a camera nerd's bookshelf tchotchke.

Thanks again.

Hey all.

I am no pro, but I've opened a couple of them for cleaning and oiling. I know the heyday of Pentax repair forums has come and gone over a decade ago, but I'll give it a shot! :-) Sticky mirror, leaking lightseal, all fun stuff. This one is new and searching doesn't turn up anything.

The shutter doesn't catch / latch. The spring seems fine. But that little hook lever by shaft where the motor drive attaches, that prevents advancing the lever when thing aren't ready to, seems to not move over into place. It's normally against the spindle, and a very common suggestion when people cannot advance the lever is to remove the bottom plate and move this lever back gently. This seems to be the opposite problem. I've gently coaxed it back over, but it doesn't stay. And it makes this very loud click, which I assume is the spring receiving tension then releasing it but firing the curtain mechanism instantly? It doesn't move though. It starts to lift, then the click, then it resets.

The camera was working before, this is not a recent ebay purchase that might be parts-only in the first place.

I don't know what it is, so I have no idea how to fix it or if it'll require a full teardown and part(s).

I'll include a photo in case a ME Super guru can knows what it is just by looking.

... and since it's 2019 not 1999 I removed the plate and I shot a video with sound, if you're willing to watch it!

Thanks everyone!
