I think so. this was also my first question yesterday
the platform is the same, so I believe all the SW changes will apply to 28mm and 40mm equivalent models.
Lintaro mentioned the new sw functionalities in the following video, those changes are not lens-related IMO. https://youtu.be/FHKrJRlGy1Q?t=196 |

it would be nice to have a company brave enough to introduce a manual focusing ring (ideally 45 degree focusing action, e.g. old canonet design)
I know maybe this will compromise the portability, but what improvement in shooting experience.

I found my perfect setting
- wrist strap on the lower eyelet
- an old pouch in case of rain
- I use Oly Li-90b (2x) along with the original battery from Ricoh, I do not notice major differences
- JJC Thumb rest, I have to say, after many attempts, this option is the one that saved me from hitting continuously the macro button
- JJC UV filter, I really didn't want to attach this glass in front of the lens, however my kids seem so attracted by the tiny 18mm, that I needed to protect it somehow

Well I am happy with my Canon 5D since 2006, basically my first and only digital, I don't see myself happier with a Fuji, honestly.
I went for the GRIII on 2019 for the reasons I mentioned above: small, light, not pretending to be a rangefinder (Fuji).
As said, I should simply accept it for what it is, a P&S camera with plenty of automatism.
GV-1/GV-2 frankly they are too expensive, we can argue they are high quality and they will return what the promise (not as the plastiky ebay version), but the price stopped me.
Eventually I am glad the small experiment with the plastiky finder proved the investment for the GV-1/GV-2 was not going to solve my itch.

You get what you pay for
I bought one to gain more intimacy with the GRIII
Shooting with LCD simply gives me the same feeling of using a phone, I don't see/feel the scene, eventually you shoot more, but with fewer (none) keepers compared to a SLR
I am trying to use this little finder to gain more pre-visualization
I have to say it is a bit too plasticky, with huge barrel distortion at the edges (like watching through a glass of water)
No lines suggesting FOV and parallax correction
Most probably I should accept the GRIII for what it is: light portable camera slightly faster than a phone.
In a sense this little finder suggests me I won't be happier with a GV-2 :)

Yeah, sorry for the lapalassian statement above.
I believe Ricoh is selling a remote controller (CA-3 USB-C) and you can find similar compatible controller.
But indeed they are wired, while if I read you correctly you wanted a wireless control.

Image Sync allows to shoot remotely, of course you need to have the app working on your smartphone first.

remove or completely rethink the main rotating dial on the back.
It is not solid as it should, I believe it is too small, and nevertheless it is conflicting with the handling.
unfortunately this is a hardware redesign and cannot be retrospective.
this is the reason I am asking for a new firmware to at least make the entire rotating dial fully customizable (not only L/R press).
BTW is Ricoh reading here?

- customization Macro button (including "none" as option) - HIGH priority
- it would be nice to have the personal settings exportable / importable / editable off-camera - Food for thoughts

I bought the III as my first GR, no sure if the previous buttons were less sensitive than the rotating dial.
In any case my point is all about the customization, why can you customize left and right, but not up and down?
I mean, macro can be a nice feature for newbie looking for flowers and cats, but frankly not for a camera that is promoted as the "Street army knife".
Do you want to have cats&flowers on the controls? fine, but give me the opportunity to change it with something else or even better "nothing".
Less is more, as usual.

Bonjour Poncet,
happy to read that we share the same opinion.
I am also considering to glue a plastic cover to avoid to accidentally hit that button.
At the end of the day it is a tool, and I prefer to have a tool tailored around my need, rather then tailor my habits/thoughts around an object.

@WTBGR thanks appreciated your help.
Important step 0: change AF mode to "Select AF" otherwise it won't work.
however, I don't like it :)

@Sandy thanks for the suggestions, for sure I will adopt a sort of workaround, but I hope we can agree saying that functionality is misplaced.
I am not trolling Ricoh, I am simply reporting a missed expectation against their claims.
Ricoh statement: GR III - Ricoh GR III - Ricoh
Flexible customization. Frequently used functions can be assigned to the ADJ lever and Fn button. Other controls can also be customized for fine tuning camera operation, making the camera easier to use and to match your shooting style.

Who knows, maybe someone will read this post and will include this request in the next program increment.
@WTBGR
this is exactly what I set, but unfortunately with automatic auto focus it won't affect the macro button, only clicking the touchscreen you will enable the spot focal point and therefore change the macro button functionality. Until then it will stay active.

Hi there, fast update I understand what you mean but the workflow is not acceptable: you set the priority to change AF point, with that said the camera if still in AF will still have the macro button active, so you need to press a point and in that moment the 4 keys take priority in shifting the AF point disabling the damn flower for beginners. Nope I think this is not a solution, since the entire concept I wanted to explore was to shoot in focus zone and without the display.
Maybe I should cover the entire damn control wheel with something... such a pity.
