Nice group photo. You need the M 20/4 to expand your collection. I have had one since the late eighties and it is one of my favorites. The thing is - the world has become aware of its charms and they are not cheap. ;)

Infra Red images. A beginner's tale and I'll show you mine if you show me yours!

The camera I use is an IR converted Olympus E-PL1. The lens in the first shot is the Lumix 14-45; in the second the Oly 17/1.8, and in the last image the Oly 12/2. Because of the limitations of this set-up (I'm hardly getting clean, tack sharp images out of it), I have to run the images through quite a few PP hoops to get something out of them.

Here's some false color examples from the same camera and (1) Rokinon 7.5mm, (2) & (3) Lumix 14-45:

If I remember correctly, these are from a 720nm converted Olympus E-PL1. That camera has a very noisy sensor and M43 lenses struggle to resolve IR light, but with some aggressive PP I'm able to get somewhat decent results. I've always been curious if other larger sensor systems do better with IR, or whether DSLR lens produce sharper images.

Ever since I first started being keen on photography way back at the beginning of the '80s, I have been interested in IR images, especially B&W ones.Back in the days of film I was too distracted by other things (wine, women and song mostly!) to find the time to go through the pfaff of actually taking any IR photos. Now with digital IR is so much more accessible and the recent purchase of a Fuji X-T10 already converted to 720nm band for less than it would cost to get one of my cameras converted has opened up a whole new avenue of exploration. As yet I am only a beginner, and the following snaps are really some of my first experiments in the genre, so please be not too harsh in any critique! I would love to see others' shots here in the IR wavebands, colour and B&W. Hopefully so I can learn more and see just how far one can go with IR. I do feel that it would be far too easy to overuse IR and I recognise the feeling I am like a kid with a new toy at the moment.

I ‘m surprised that Kodak didn’t find a way to continue these. They are basically a chemicals company, afterall.

It really helps if you can visualize the picture before pressing the shutter button.

Especially when you don't have much to work with. ;)

I think, the sunrise in the sky sort of harmonizes this image, adding more analogous colors to the already warm-colored autumn scene.

My favorite go to system for photography

MY FAVORITE GO TO SYSTEM FOR PHOTOGRAPHY

When it comes to the Pentax K3-Mark III, I have only a one word response. WOW! Then you add the HD PENTAX-DA 16-50mm F2.8ED PLM AW, I would respond with a WOW!! This lens has a newly designed optical system and is the first time in a large-aperture PENTAX lens. It has an advanced pulse motor (PLM) to assure smooth, high-speed, high-precision autofocus (AF) operation with minimized noise. The lens has a quick-shift focus system to provide an instant shift from AF to manual and a minimum focusing distance of just under 12 inches. This is a cool new zoom lens and after getting use to it, I began to have a lot of fun. It is awesome on the Pentax K3-Mark III camera. It can be used for a lot of things and I love the way it handles landscape which is my favorite type of photography.

The HD PENTAX-DA 16-50mm F2.8ED PLM AW lens also features an electromagnetic diaphragm control mechanism to assure high precision exposure control and smooth focus tracking when used in combination with Pentax K3-Mark III. You get sharp, clear images, even under demanding conditions. The bokeh is great and I believe it is due to the nine-blade circular diaphragm. I am a fan of the PENTAX-original HD coating, which helps with light transmittance and the SP (Super Protect) Coating to keep the lens front surface free of dust and stains.

On top of all of this is the ability of the lens to be dust-proof and weather-resistant, preventing water and dust from getting into the lens barrel. What a great system you have for all weather conditions when this lens is paired with the Pentax K3-Mark III. In my experience this lens delivers sharp, clear images, not only in the middle of the image field but at the edges. it effectively minimizes a lot of flare and ghost images even in demanding lighting conditions such as backlighting. The lens in my opinion has high resolving power and outstanding contrast even at open aperture. It captures beautiful images with a smooth transition of the bokeh effect and a true-to-life depth of field. That is why it works so well on my PENTAX K3 -Mark III.

I have experienced high-speed autofocus, making this a versatile lens for capturing all types of subjects in everyday snapshots, sports events, close-ups on flowers and landscapes. Every day that I use my Pentax K3-Mark III and the HD PENTAX-DA 16-50mm F2.8ED PLM AW lens, I move to this combination being my all time favorite setup and go to system for my photography.

Infinity Focusing

Set things up to manual focus with the lens wide open and at full throw on a tripod looking along something like a fence that goes perhaps 50metres into the distance.
If something nearer on the fence is sharper then it is likely the lens is not reaching infinity. Adjustment is required. Note the degree of sharpness in the sharp area - this is a measure of your lenses ability. .
If nothing is in focus then the lens has probably focused past infinity. If this is the case then take a bunch of shots each slightly turning the focus closer. If your 50 metre point gets sharper then that confirms it is focusing past infinity.
