I too love my K-7! It was my first DSLR and until this week, my only one. I may have abused it more times than I can count, and it's handled all moments capably. I've even successfully shot sports indoors in terrible lighting and higher ISO but the grain was spectacular.
I only have a couple pics I've shared here so I'll attach them and pop more in later. |

Really like the fence on the beach. The grain of the wood is lovely.

My second trip out with my new KP and I'm definitely needing to practice more. ISO at 12800 blew me away but it's quite grainy - tried using ISO 100 and it was pitch black or excessively long shutter. I couldn't figure out how to lower the upper ISO threshold while I was taking pictures, and I didn't want to stand around fiddling with settings while people were trying to look at the birds and plants. It was also my first time shooting in such an environment - indoor gardens with a glass dome roof but with large trees. It was also my first time ever shooting RAW, and my first time doing post processing with Darktable and with RAW.
Tips on settings, how to become accustomed to RAW, and tips for darktable much appreciated.
Thank you!

So far only have had my KP for a couple weeks. The first night I played with it and caught a little monster in our chinese takeout bag, then the ocean pic is from my Christmas vacation to Vancouver Island.
Enjoying learning more about photography with this gorgeous camera! Just got to figure out the autofocus, my mind is just not wrapping around it properly. |

You should totally do it!
I'm sure the water was cold but luckily we were dry and warm on shore at plus 5C and no wind surprisingly! The roar was deafening, it was so thrilling! Thank you :)
Ok so I tried increasing the saturation... I worry though now I see vignetting. Is this a fault in my DA* 300mm lens or a product of GIMP or contrast processing?

Black capped chickadee at Reifel Bird Sanctuary in BC, Canada. It was my first outing with my then-new Rokinon 16mm which I had purchased for astrophotography... which I have not yet attempted with it yet!

I wish I had a 77mm CPL, that will be the next acquisition if it's not the Sigma 17-70mm lens.
Thank you!
You have amazing photos. I really hope to catch some waves like you have! Very much appreciate the tips and examples :) ---------- Post added 12-24-19 at 11:35 AM ----------
Great tips, thank you! I guess I will bring everything I have and tell the boyfriend to go for a long walk hahahah. Good idea on having a stationary object for the timelapse.
Loving all the photos shared in this thread! The sea is so versatile, and each wave is so different, it's amazing.

That's a good point to make. I would never operate a drone without knowing the full regulations and being taught by an instructor. Here, marine distance restrictions are 100m of baleen whales, 200m if they are resting/with calf and 200m of orcas with 400m for a specific type of orca in our southern waters due to their endangered status. Still there are whale strikes, usually by freighters.

Ahh congrats! I get to pick up my KP tonight. Been waiting since Dec 2nd when I ordered it, but it took forever to slow crawl it's way across Canada.
I hope you have many enjoyable days and nights taking photos with your KP!

That's deep. ❤️ You raise a very good perspective.
It appears overwhelmingly in support of getting the KP. Great idea of selling it on if it comes to that.
Thank you, ordering one now... With an extra battery, for now.
You guys are really a great forum!

Thank you all! Great advice so far. I decided against the second battery, for now. I'm going to see what it's like in my hands and how the life is on it out on a shoot - probably try to recreate my birding shoot I had a couple years back with the K7 and then new Rokinon. If I feel like I'm using it up or if it feels off-weighted with the lens (and the 300mm) then I'll know what way to spend my money - on batteries or the battery pack. Also, this gives me time to suss out some filters for my various lenses and a cleaning kit.
Luckily, the deal I got through Camera Canada provides the other 2 grips though most sites/brick and mortars in Canada didn't seem to offer them in box.
I'm now itching to learn more and see what it can do and I hope to post some comparative K7-KP shots if I can recreate some of the situations. IE bird eating out of my hand (in the picture forum), or whale watching. No more winging it and faffing about with it!
