I think a K200d is a fantastic camera. And today, the technical limits of these old models can be easily overcome with modern tools.
I took your picture (jpeg, low resolution) and processed it with Topaz Photo AI: upscaling x2, sharpening and removing noise. Within a few seconds,I got a much cleaner and sharper image, with no visible noise. I did not touch to the default settings, so maybe the result could be even better with more effort and time :).
I think such took makes old bodies still usable today, even in more difficult conditions :).
Not mentioning the fact that in fine weather, the images out of the K200D are beautiful!

Thank you for your answers and advices!
I also own a Pentax Kp silver edition with the 20-40mm Limited Silver and, I don't know for what reason, I had never thought of mounting the 20-40 on the K200D ?!? I was probably doing a mental block on combining the black of the K200D with the silver of the 20-40mm :D. Weird !
Finally, just a few days after posting above, I tried the silver 20-40mm limited on the black K200D and, despite the weird and unusual aesthetic of the combo, the results were really good. Pictures out of this 20-40 Limited really shine on both bodies !
Since I never go out with both bodies at the same time, it won't be too much of a problem for them to share the same lenses :D
Therefore, instead of buying a redundant zoom, I decided to hunt for both a Limited 15mm and 70mm ;)
I already found a black HD DA 70mm Limited two days ago for a very sweet price. I look forward to its delivery!
So my next prey will be the 15mm Limited, preferably HD DA!
I will post here pictures with the K200D and the Limited's soon
@ChristianRock I like the colors of both the HD DA 18-50 and DA* 16-50 on your pictures. I am wondering which of the two required the most post-production processing, if any?
Cheers!

Hi all
I really beleive that Pentax is a perfectly sensible choice for beginners, especially when you can get very capable and complete system, WR as a bonus, for about $150 in second hand.
The DSLR vs MLC war is a non sense to me. Photography has nothing to do with having a mirror or not in the camera. We must fight the MLC marketing argument pretending that MLC is WYSIWYG... The reality is that "what you see is what the manufacturer beleives you want to get". If you shoot in JPEG, this is maybe true... but if you shoot RAW, this WYSIWYG statement is just bullshit. I think that in that case OVF, especially Pentax pentaprisme, is superior to EVF.
For my 15 years old son, I just acquired a K200D with 15000 actuations with the WR kit lenses 15-55mm and 50-200mm for 130 euros, postage included... Canikon or Fujifilm cannot beat this for beginners and even enthusiat amateurs! And for that price, you even get a mirror in the camera... Isn't that amazing :D

Hello, thank you for your warm welcome to the club.
I had my first ride today with my brand new K100D Super, mounted with a Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8. I really appreciate the ease of use of this camera. I am seriously considerinf to acquire a K200D as well, to have a weather resistent body.

@Simon K & @paul
I already tried to enter in the Debug Mode following this procedure, but this does not work with the K100D Super.
I made controlled tests with a focus pattern and the results are unfortunatelly final..
I sent an email to the technical service of Ricoh-Pentax to see how much it would cost to send it for repair... if still possible...
I will keep you updated :)
François
UPDATE I: I just found this... https://www.flickr.com/groups/k100dsuper/discuss/72157634519171510/. I will try later today. Cross fingers!
UPDATE II: Yes, it worked... I had to push the correction to +300 [um] to get it right !!!!
As far as Pentax service is concerned, it is no surprise they asked me to send back the body and lenses for calibration. I will continue to test my K100D Super the next few days to check my fix is consistently working before considering sending it to Pentax :)

Hello everybody
As of tonight, I am a happy member of the 6 megapixels club... after buying a Pentax K100d Super with its kit lens (18-55mm) and its UV filter, an Opteka 0.20x Fisheye lens and a camera case, all in mint condition (except maybe the Opteka which have a -very- slight mark in the middle of the rear lens -- to be tested). The body has less than 5500 shutter triggers (yes, really!!!) according to ShutterCounter.com ... all for 40 euros. The body is really in a mint/new condition. No mark, no scratch, no anything! I cannot beleive I made such a deal :).
This K100d Super will make the perfect companion of my SMC-F 28mm f/2.8 and its brother SMC-F 50mm f/1.7.
The reason I bought this old camera is to improve my photography skills. With such low resolution, there is no room for cropping and it will force me to work more on the composition. But I also wanted to own a CCD sensor camera again (my first camera was a K200d). I own a K-5 and a Kp but I want to make this K100 Super my main tool for the coming months (at least when the weather allows it!)
I hope to have the time to try it out tomorrow ant to post my first picture here.
See you.

Hi all
My name is François V. I live in Belgium, more precisely in Waterloo (famous for its Lion :)).
I have been using Pentax DSLR for about 10 years, starting with a K200D, followed by a K-7. I own my K-5 since 2012, with rwo lenses: DA 18-135mm and the FA 35mm f/2.0 (my favorite). I very recently bought a Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 in second hand.
Recently, I realized that, despite of having a fantastic DSLR, I have been unable to produce any "whouaw" picture in 10 years. I had to recognize that the problem does not come from a lack of brightness or sharpness of my lenses, but simple my lack of knowledge of photography... Therefore, instead of buying a new DSLR or more expensives lenses... I bought three books
- The Photographer's Eye, (Michael Freeman)
- The Landscape Photography Book, (Scott Kelby)
- Composez, réglez, déclenchez! La photo pas à pas (Anne-Laure Jacquart)
I hope this will help me to become a better amateur!
