Pentax announcement: Considering developing new film camera

This may vary by region. However I assume my K10D has more market value than my MZ-5. For both it will be difficult to find a buyer at any reasonable price, so I don't bother to offer these on the internet market place. Sometimes I lend the K10D with a telezoom to friends having animal visitors in their garden. The film MZ-5 has no use at all for me.

I no longer own an enlarger, only a Paterson tank. Moreover I'm not longing to the smell of acetic acid and decomposing thio sulphate in a closed room.
More than half a century ago I did my own colour prints. It was hard to get the developer chemicals at that time and I was never happy with the results.

Pentax announcement: Considering developing new film camera

In my showcase are still 2 MX's, 2 P30's, 1 K2, 2 Spotmatic's, 1 MZ5, plus a lot of lenses, 1 Yashica Mat124G and a whole lot of film compacts. Have tried to sell some such as the Spotmatics but it was too much hassle with the low money I would get. I haven't put any film from the fridge in these and stopped all my darkroom activities once I got the *istD and newer Pentax DSLR's. My grandkids look at my showcase with much interest but then leave our home with their iphones in their pockets. I have never met any young people wanting to explore film technology.
Maybe one day I will be infected by the new film hype, but I will then fire up one of my old timers SLR's and clearly will not be a customer for one more film camera. Perhaps a very attractive and reliable water resistant fixed focus film compact that most of us can't resist to buy?

I have now been able to connect a few times. Don't know the reason why, I may have earlier misread the password or maybe with switching the app off and on.
With the camera (K-1) on 3 sec delay remote control (as I use to do on tripod) the app shows a message "Set the drive mode to single frame shooting mode" and it won't fire in this mode.
Changing camera settings frequently results in disconnection and the password has to be re-entered each time upon reconnecting.
Standing in the cold with my gloves on it will be easier to press the button on my IR remote control device.

I downloaded the new Android version but it still fails for me as I'm unable to get it connected to my K-1 and K-70.
The error message shows wifi connection failure, though the app recognizes my camera SSID.
Better stick with my excellent Micnova remote controls for shots on tripod.

Question : Focus stacking using multiple exposures?

I use LR/Enfuse which is a plugin for Lightroom. It can also stack images with different exposure (HDR).
With mushrooms photography I use the K-1 in liveview and manual adjustment of focus ring. I have also tried to use a rail but (at least with this software) this quickly ends up in poor results due to panning.

Yes, as I explained earlier on this forum: reporting by uploading a picture of a species to the national nature observation data base is so much more convenient having a built-in GPS like a mobile phone. The data base program picks up the coordinates and immediately shows a map of the location of the observed species. This feature (as well as the notorious tilted screen) makes my K-1 the most valued and complete camera I ever owned for work in nature. Moreover, almost no other MILC's or DSLR's have built-in GPS. So as I'm concerned, hopefully there wil be no such compromises on any future K-1 versions unless becoming too costly. Although I also like to work with APS-C format, fiddling around with phone apps and/or separate GPS unit looks to me like a few steps back.

Thanks for your understanding, Rondec. I'm getting much comfort in holding my K-1 tightly while looking through the tilted screen in live view.:)

Nice pics, Normhead. I am using for focus stacking of mushroom pics a wooden plate on which I've mounted an Arca Swiss clamp to get as low as possible. No way I could look through the viewfinder even by crawling on the ground so the flippy screen of my K-1 is most useful. Hereby an example. https://flic.kr/p/2jTZKFr

Not macro I think for the K-3 3. Speaking for myself I shoot a lot of focus stacked macro on the K-1 in live view with tilted screen.

The GPS of the K-1 is always 'spot on' for me in reporting to the nature observation data base in my country. Their program reads the coordinates of my picture and plots these on their map. This looks very accurate as I can check easily when e.g. taking a picture from the border of a pool and I know the spot well.

On the K-1 there is besides the GPS switch an indicator light. This I don't see anywhere on the K-3 3.

It is not so difficult to understand. New features provide possibilities in photography which were not easily solved before. As examples for me (with K-1) that is GPS for reporting on nature observations data bases, and flip screen for wild flowers and mushroom pics.

Are you sure K-new will have GPS? It looks like there is a small led on top but I see no button beside it, such as on the spot where K-1 has the GPS.

Of course I also take my second body (K-5) along for the occasional social events for safety and to make sure I don't loose time switching lenses.
In the field I only use the K-1 and do change lenses for different subjects (e.g. butterflies vs. flowers or mushrooms).

You end up with walking around with more than one camera. The only camera (not with two) I want to walk around with in nature should indeed be a swiss knife in that it includes amongst other obvious features a tilting screen as well as in-built GPS. The K-1 is most suitable for me and rather unique amongst competition for having in-built GPS. However I will have to forget getting a new camera in the lighter APS-C format.

Leica can afford to go their own way against the main stream.
On the professional high end (sport) DSLR camera's of Canon and Nikon usually on-camera monitors are fitted if needed.
Their new mirrorless counterparts do not have a fixed screen.
The K-new will be unlikely a camera in these classes.

The K-1 (II) with 36 MP delivers only 16 MP in crop mode on a DA crop lens. So a high res crop body may in theory give better results.

Built-in GPS is a luxury feature that only a few flagships have, though there are bridge camera's used for nature shooting that have GPS. The O-GPS1 could indeed be a solution if no flash unit is required, at a cost of 200+ euros. I'd better stick with my K-1.

KP or K-70 would be fine as back-up camera except these are missing built-in GPS that is very useful for automatic reporting to the dataset for nature observations. K-1 (and K3 II) is one of the few DSLR's and mirrorless camera's that have this.

I will not be laying in the mud again, that's not for me "enjoying the entire photographic experience" (Wakashiro). So this means I will concentrate on the use of my FF K-1 and forget a new APS-C.

The in-built GPS of the K-1 is for me a much appreciated feature for reporting on nature observations sites. Since the K-3 II has this too, no doubt it will be on K-new.

Same for me. I own so many lenses of Takumar, K, M, A, F, FA, DA series that changing to another system is not a clever idea. And all my old bodies except the *istD are still working.
I keep my patience to see what K-new will finally offer before deciding to buy the KP - probably next year.
