Hi all, a quick update and question, at the risk of sounding quite "nooby" once more, When attempting to stack say 20 or 30 images in DSS what exposrue time for each picture would everyone say is optimal for individual pics of the orion nebula when being zoomed in as much as is feasible?? I'm finding that taking 8 second exposures results in fuzzy pictures despite me setting my lens to being incredibly focussed before taking the pictures. Once more any tips would be gretly appreciated, ive lowered my ISO as was advised in previous posts which did seem to help somewhat during the actual taking of the pictures but once put into the PC they seem vitually equal in terms of fuzziness etc :/
again any and all help is appreciated. I did find that the 300mm was easier to handle than the 400mm lens too if that info is relevant.

Thanks! will do! out of interest how many pictures would you say you take on an average night shoot?
admittedly being from south wales at the moment isnt giving me the best weather for it so I'm hoping that when it clears up and I'm off work ill have a lot more time to make adjustments on the fly and see what works best!

Ahhh that's a good point, one question I have is regarding the previous issue of the timing of the shutter speed interference with the duration of each shot in the interval settings, is there a certain setting I should aim for or is it more trial and error?
Also, am I right in assuming that to get a more detailed view of the Orion nebula that the older 400mm (I believe it's from the 70/'s or 80's) would be the better choice over the sigma 300mm to get a better overall picture?

Having read through the article I think I have an idea of what to alter tonight when I try again, the lens I was using has a maximum aperture of 3.6 on a 400mm lens, it's an old lens but I think the glass is in mint condition so I'll give it another go tonight and post my results here, wish me luck 😬😂

I'm hoping this has worked o.0 this is the picture after being rendered or stacked in sequator with 10 pictures.
My camera settings were : shutter:1/10 F6.3 ISO:51200 and the interval shooting settings were on 10 times with 2 second interval between shots and a 12 second timer before starting the first shot of the sequence.
I did alter the ISO in one sequence of shots but it became so dark that nothing was visible so I'm currently left confused lol

Well, all I can say is its pretty grainy, and I'm guessing I should be able to get better with the camera/lens I'm using. If I post the pics and the settings i had on would one of you mind corrcting or explaining what I'm doing wrong?
Also thanks again for the assistance and the warm welcome! I'm glad i decided to become a pentaxian :D

Hi all, thanks for the quick responses, I've discovered how to set it on the camera itself but its still somewhat finnicky in that its not taking the selected amount of images i'm instructing it to, i've put in to take 10 images and have only gotten 4 back. To answer your questions the remote came with the camera with the correct fittings and when its plugged in the camera shows the remote symbol in the bottom right hand corner of the display, not that this means it is the right one though. The model is Jintu ?

Just checked and that is alread enabled. There is another setting regarding the shutter releasing when the aperture ring is or is not set to the "A" position, however I'm not entirely sure what that means.
For context I'm using the Sigma 3.5-6.3 72mm 18-300mm lens if it helps.

Hi, my name is Rudy and I'm fairly new to photography, I recently bought a KP which came with an intervalometer. I've used one on another camera before that was simply plug and play however this doesn't seem to be the case for this new camera. After searching through the menus I found a section that mentions the external input devices and selected the cable release, but it still refuses to engage the shutters. If anyone has any ideas as to why it would be greatly appreciated as my first attempts at shooting the orion nebula was ruined by my big hands having to touch the camera  lol
Also, if there's a way to enable this function via the camera itself, that would also be acceptable, but I'm not sure where in the menu it is :/
Many thanks,
Rudy
