Personally I like both the older lenses when i am looking for softer image and the newer lenses when i want it supper sharp. Great body the K1 is and the lens options are off the chart!

The ones on my K1 seem fine but this is definitely one of those personal preference issues,,,, I hope you find what works best.

That looks a bit sketchy to me but if you are carful in setting it up and there is no wind or gentle bumps... looks OK.
I would go with something a lot more substantial personnally.

I agree with an earlier post, the lenses you want to use is probably the biggest influence on whihc one you choose. Ki Mark II... it is a pretty awesome body... you will not go wrong with it.

As SLR camera's go this is about as durrable a body as you are going to find at this level. If you break this puppy, you would completely destroy any other SLR FF body. It is a camera so it comes with the necessity of care but for water proofing and durability... I don't think you are going to best this one!

I use 1 of two fixed lenses.... The Pentax-F SMC 1:2.8 28mm you gotta be comfortable getting up close or interested in more architectural street photography with it.
I also just started to experiment with a Pancake lense... The SMC Pentax-DA 1:2.8 40mm XS as it is very non-obtrusive and makes the camera far less intimidating. That lens is about 1 cm in depth... that's it. But it takes decent pictures so having fun with it.
I also use an old 50 mm FF Pentax lense I bought in 1086 for a Pentax film body.

My experience is that my old 1986 full framed 50 mm lens is fabulous on my Ki MarkII and that goes for other older FF lenses I have or have purchased at a good price as they are used. The Ki seems to work very well with them and I have had no problems, You can even have it set to beep when you manually focus if you like.
The only think is that it takes K mounts only (obvioulsy) but you have full access to all the new and some very old K mount lenses.
I also use a few of the newer lenses that are not FF and there you run into cropping issues in the corners... however there is a mode in the K1 to accomodate for this and it uses only the inner part of the sensor so no cropping happens.
I love this camera and I think you will find it can capture the old lens softness and bocas as well as take advantage of the sharper new lenses. its beautiful.
