My only really good photo in PPG. These are my nieces and nephew fooling around with a soft drink. I think they were making fun of their parents' love of wine and the good life in the south of France.

Not a great photo but the owner of the car had character! Taken with a DA 16-45 and a K10D.

I think it was a Nissan Sylvia.

Hi JennyPat,

Lovely earrings! I have skimmed the posts and read the advice and I am not sure if anyone recommended you use a tripod. That would help to eliminate motion blur even with a slower shutter speed. As other posters have recommended use a fast shutter speed and bright light. A mini table top tripod is a good thing if your camera is a lighter smaller one.

Hi cwolfphoto. Very good! I love the model's skin tone and her confident pose, and the dark on dark palette works well. Maybe if you have a shot of her in a similar pose but with her eyes open and looking at the camera, the whole portrait might pop more. I know though, there's a nice mood with her eyes closed also. I am not a pro portrait photographer, so I can't claim to be giving you the best advice or critique.

Thanks Todd, and I hope you can visit us again. If you have the time Google the Australian photographer Max Dupain. He is the pioneer of Harbour Bridge photography and other great stuff. He inspires us to go out and try to be as good.

Hi RobG
Yes, I waited for the lights to go red, though I didn't take any when they were green. It was quite cold that morning! The star burst came from the DA 16-45. A nice accident as I didn't intend it. Great info-trivia too.

Low the palette, low key, very subtle and harmonious. So Australian too!

Lovely shot, great light and composition. If anything could have been a bit better, the birds didn't fly into the top left corner and balance it out a bit. But still, a great shot.

CCD vs CMOS Sensors - Which do you prefer for "Colors"?

I had a K10 D and the colour it produced could be great. Now the modern CMOS sensors are much better and there's no not much difference between a K10D CCD and a up to date Pentax CMOS. The big difference is that that K10D has narrow Dynamic range compared to anything after K5. so you would only get the best colour depth on a low ISO.

I agree, looking back at my old Pentax jpgs that I shot on default. I decided to do RAW processing and got much better results.
