Not Sicily for me, but NYC.

And of course the Theta Z1 isn't very creative .... it's just a camera. Producing creative images is all about you, not the tools you use.

This is a composite of two images. The first was taken late afternoon, nice clouds in the sky, but the camera was too low. I took the second image before sunrise the following morning .... camera the right height for the flowers, but a boring cloudless sky.

Nicely done! Still figuring out the Z1 myself. The rules for composing an image in 360 are a bit different, right? Having a light stand to get the camera 10 feet off the ground helps a lot.

Hello All. I realize this is an old thread ... but the thread title caught my attention.

I am primarily a landscape photographer (enthusiast/dedicated hobbyist) and have recently purchased a Theta Z1. I will be using it to augment my landscape and astro photography.

I hope to reach others who are doing the same and start discussions about what works/does not work using the Theta series for landscape & astro. As noted in another post, composing in 360 is very different ...

Attached are a few of the images I've created to date. Be well and stay safe.

I think the basic question is ... Are you happy with the results of your efforts? It IS a hobby (well, for most of us). It's art, and the camera and lenses are tools. I forget who said this, but it's true ... the most important part of a camera is the 12 inches behind the view finder. That being said, it's not the $$ you spend, but how you use what you've purchased. The "spend 'til it hurts" crowd are missing the point. They probably ignore RawTherapee and GIMP too.

Ancestry DNA test

Last year a friend received from her son (not the much-desired and heavily-hinted for present but instead) a DNA test kit. Apparently the son had one done and was disappointed in the low percentage of treasured Irish ancestry reported (along with Western European and Iberian peninsula ancestry) in the result. He wanted his mother to also test so that he could learn her percent Irish ancestry.

I'm not sure if my disgruntled friend actually did the test, but after several weeks of receiving her present, she sent the following message to her son: "DNA test results have returned and are as follows .... 55% Eastern European, 30% Balkan, 10% Hindi, 5% Other. No match at all with yours. My nurse friends at the hospital say babies must have been switched at birth. Come pick up your stuff."

She was much more favorably impressed with his purchasing choices her next birthday.

Do you calculate where the sun's going to be?

I usually rely on Stellarium ,,, always used for astrophotography and moonlit landscapes, and for the sun's position when I'm out during the day. I don't get the detailed information from the program your using, but what info I do get is good enough for my purpose.

Yes 'cause I don't always use the GPS feature on the K-3 II or the K-1.

Question ... are you shooting only M42, or are you going for the entire Messier catalog? Thanks.

Hello All!

Living a quiet country life, retired. Photography has been a hobby for a while, always Pentax, night time photography (including astrophotography) is my favorite.

Does anyone live near a Dark Sky Park? Looking for recommendations ....

Thanks.

Greetings All.

If I'm reading "on none of the occasions have I been able to get astrotracer runs longer than what is possible without it (at 105mm)." ... you are trying to take a sharp image of M42 with a long shutter exposure (more than 30 seconds), focal length of 105mm, using the astrotracer function, and all your images so far have shown star trails.

My thoughts immediately went to looking at the moon ... by naked eye it doesn't seem to move, but when I look at it through a 900mm telescope the moon races across the field of view.

Have you had any success using astrotracer at shorter focal lengths?
