Thoughts on Pentax LX

Today a new focusing screen(sa-23) is arrived and I can already tell I should have been bought the LX earlier.
It’s ridiculous how bright the viewfinder is with the M50/1.4 and how fast and easy I can focus now also for my eyesight that is not that perfect.
I should buy another one in the future.

Looks like LX has boh electronic and mechanical problems at some point.

Thanks, I’ll use mine until it dies and then I’ll switch to Nikon F3.
Now I’m waiting for the sa-23 to arrive to pair with my M28/2 (incredible lens)

Mine has the serial number that starts with 53 so I hope being a late version might lasts a bit more time.
Today I’m going to put a roll of hp5, tomorrow I’ll develop it and hope all is working fine

How much should a Pentax focusing screen costs?

Poll: How much would you pay (USD) for the new Pentax half-frame film camera?

I think this camera is for new generations that can buy something new easy to use, I was speaking today with a photo store owner and he told me that he is selling more disposable cameras than rolls of film.
By the way I’m not interested too in an half frame camera.
K1000 is quite popular so I think Pentax should propose a newer version also with cheaper materials.

Mine arrived this evening and I can see and feel the quality upgrade over the other Pentax that I own and I’ve owned.

Kx a meh, not bad but not great.
K2 more happier than Kx
Mx not than good and traded for lx (I had 3, 2 failed)
Spotmatic not bad but too archaic camera for my taste

Now I hope the lx will last a long time, seems to do the right things

The Pentax K2

I really like my k2 but I’d like to have the split image and I was thinking to search a k1000 for parts to swap the focusing screen.
Does it fit the k2? should the light meter be recalibrated?

I think finding a k2 dmd for parts could be really challenging

Pentax k2 light meter

Thanks

The shutter button hasn’t the problem mentioned and I already shoot about 5 rolls with no noticeable exposure problems.
Glad to hear that might be a mechanical problem and the camera could be easily fixed, I really like the k2.

Now the problem is to find a competent repair shop.

Thanks again

Pentax k2 light meter

Yeah but when activated shouldn’t stay active for a while?

In the manual:

“Also, when film wind lever is at its pre-advance angle and the shutter button is depressed halfway, meter stays ON”

Mine doesn’t stay on, as soon the shutter button is depressed the needle returns back over 1/1000.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Pentax k2 light meter

I was gifted a k2 and reading this form and then the manual I noticed that the light meter should continue metering when the film advance level is opened.
But the needle in the viewfinder moves only when the shutter button is half pressed and quickly returns when released.

The metering is precise also compared with other cameras with working light meter.

Is it a common issue easy to fix? Is it worth a cla? The camera is in great condition by the way
A good repair shop for Pentax in Europe?

Thanks

Sunny 16 and old cameras

I have a Pentax KX with a not working light meter that I always use with sunny 16 and black and white film.

When I’m not sure I use a simple exposure bracketing.

I compared the light meter app with external light meters and the exposures were off, especially in the shadows.

I have best exposure wirh sekonic 308 and Pentax digital spotmeter. I also bought a keks but some frames were off and a bit uncomfortable to use(I suppose other Chinese meter are the same)

I can’t speak for Reveni but seems they are offering good meters.

I can’t speak for color film but I suppose a good light meter is required.

Hello

I've found the k50/4 macro for a reasonable price, is it radioactive? looks like it has the same optical formula of the smc takumar 50/4 macro that has been tested as radioactive

thanks

If you are going to scan your negatives the the iq difference is going to be hard to see.

So for street photography I’ll suggest the M28/2.8 because it’s light and 2.8 makes the difference over the 3.5.
For landscape and architecture the K28/3.5 because it’s better distortion corrected.
If you plan to shoot a lot of low light, get the M28/2

I can’t comment on the K30/2.8 because I don’t have it but I assume can be an upgrade over the M28/2.8

Pentax KX mlu problem

yes I know I have to move the lever to the right to activate the mlu pushing the button.
The camera was gifted to me with the problem and since I live in Europe sending the camera to Eric is going to be expensive.
I’m going to ask to some local camera repair shop for a quote…maybe if the price is too high I’ll keep the camera as is. (Or I’ll search for a new one since I like the kx a lot)

Thanks

When I try to activate the mlu in my Pentax KX the mirror doesn’t stay up, is it a common problem? Is it difficult to get it fixed?

Thanks

Pentax sold more mx than kx, so spare parts should be easer to find for the mx. By the way both are great cameras and very reliable

Pentax K 28mm f/3.5 vs Pentax-M 28mm f/2.8 (later version) vs Pentax-M 28mm f/3.5

i have M28 3.5, M28 2.8 v1 and v2 which i use both on film and with my fuji xt2.
I never owned the K28 3.5 but from what i've read online and saw it has neutral to cool colour rendering and low geometric distortion as the M28 3.5 (of course the K28 is sharper)
regarding the other two they have both warm colour rendering but the v1 has better center sharpness, lower in the edge and good amount of geometric distortion, v2 less sharpness and more even between center to edge with less geometric distortion than v1
Focus ring is smooth in both 3.5 and has more grip in both 2.8

I think new film camera is not coming back anytime soon from major manufacturer.
By the way they could offer some kind of service to repair and restore old gear (even the electronics)
Having a pentax 67 restored by pentax could be expensive but a feasible and nice to have.

Super A for me. I had more positive experiences from electronics built in the 80's than the 70's (essentially pentax me or ricoh)

If you consider other brands nikon fg could be an option
