Rght, now I know why he's not selling on ebay, that's a shame... There's always one a-hole lurking around.

This is the material pack I got on ebay... Camera repair light seal foam *BUMPER PACK* for all classic and vintage | eBay

Thank you for the response Ray,

I've kind of made my mind up now in taking my H1a apart and doing a delicate clean around the mirror box and get rid of any remnants of the perished foam.

And yes, I have seen the yarn seal option on youtube and I might give that a go at some point. I do have foam and felt materials ordered and should be arriving in a couple of days, some has adhesive on the back and some haven't. Looking at Jon Goodmans very helpful instructions, looks like if cut correctly, you don't need any adhesive on the long strips anyway, just push well in and it should stay, and so when it comes to installing another new lot of seals in the distant future, the poor sod who has to replace them should find it a bit easier to clean!

I've got three bodies to do, an H1a, SP1000 and a Mamiya sekor 500TL that's plenty to get on with :)

Cheers Guys,

All the materials I need are ordered and waiting for delivery now, if only I'd heard of Mr Goodman before I joined this forum!

No worries, I'm a bit of an expert when it comes to cutting materials with a steel rule and a scalpel, I've been doing that for years...

The only bit I'm concerned about is removing the bottom plate, front lens mount plate and the screen guard without stripping any flathead screws!

Thank you for the help Chaps,

I've searched endlessly on the web for information with tips and tricks in making replacing seals and mirror dampers as smoothly as possible, until I came across this H1a mirror!

I'm on a budget so I will be trying to do this at the lowest cost I can manage, I will be cutting to size my own foam and felt and triple checking all measurements...

Looking at that manual, it looks like I could be removing the front of the body to get access to that ridiculously large shield, just to get at cleaning and replacing the the foam mirror dampers, that's if I have the courage to attempt that! I don't want to ruin those four flat head screws, or I might try using some angled tweezers and seeing the reflection of where the foam is placed in the mirror and carefully clean and then replace the foam... At the moment the foam has virtually all perished away.

It's a challenge, but something that has to be done, I also have a SP1000 I need to replace all the seals, I might get that one out of the way first, at least I can start shooting some film and get processing again :)

Thank you all, you lovely bunch!

Hello! Is there any H1a/S1a owners out there... I've not long purchased from ebay an H1a, in pretty good condition considering its age the mirror is a bit scratched but is ok, all the seals do need replacing and I'm waiting for my new seal foam to arrive in a few days... How would you replace the mirror foam? looks like there are two pieces of foam either side, behind a thin metal plate which does hinder you easily getting to the old remains of foam to clean it, looks like there are two screws to remove the plate but you can't reach them with a small flat head because of the angle... I've also ordered some angled tweezers to hopefully make life a bit easier... Has anybody had to deal with this particular pickle? Cheers.

Thank you all!

Astro-baby, that's what happened to me in a charity shop, although it was a Zorki 4k, and after a good clean it's been great. I keep seeing things about Jon Goodman and his kits, but I can't seem to find his website for some reason. I just purchased this from ebay, Camera repair light seal foam *BUMPER PACK* for all classic and vintage | eBay Looks like there is everything I need for all kinds of seals and mirror dampers... Can't wait to get started!

My very first Pentax post :) After twenty years of shooting digital, I wanted to get back and start processing my own film again on a budget, so I had to find a camera to shoot some film! On ebay I picked up a Honeywell H1a with 50mm f2 Super Takumar for about £40, it looked in really great condition in the images, but when you finally get your hands on it, you find out it's not so in great condition :( The seals will need replacing, the mirror looks like it's been wiped with some sandpaper, it's still ok but had I known, I might had gave this particular item a pass, but I love It, I love the design, the size and how solid it feels, and I have not seen many Honeywells over here in the UK. On ebay again last week, I just picked up an SP1000 with a 50mm f2 Takumar SMC (£50) as a back up for the Honeywell, the seals and mirror foam are shot and will need replacing before any film can be loaded. Now I'm looking for the right foam and battery for the SP, and then hopefully I can start shooting some film... Looking for all the bits and pieces right now...
