New firmware for K-1 and K-1II

Just tried the update but there is no action when I turn the camera on keeping Menu pressed. The screen stays black and the card N1 indicator flashes. I tried two different SD cards, always formatting them. I downloaded on a Macintosh directly into the card but I had to move the file out of the folder and into the root position

Flying with a p92 ultralight, which has side glasses, so I am using a shade to reduce the risk of reflections, and trying to use the high wing to get some shade too. I use a K1 with 28-70 FA*

Highest Shutter Count K1?

However strange it might be, I have an annoying problem after almost 50 000 shots in my K1 II… with the shutter button. It often stays partially depressed and does not spring back, which means that I cannot check the picture I just took.

To release I have either to turn the camera off or work it with the finger a bit to make it bounce back.

I did not get round to send it for repair yet.

Anybody else having this issue?

On the K3 I am close to 200 000 and the shutter sometimes makes a strange noise as if not all the mechanism worked (i.e. the mirror or the shutter move and the other doesn’t) but since this seems random I never could see what the problem is exactly. Moreover an SD card torn away in some way a contact and one of the two card slots does not work anymore, but the camera is too old to justify a repair.

K3 issues: card not visible and upgrades

Thanks everybody

i found a strong light and took. few pics, and it seems like a pin is missing, one in a couple of narrowly spaced contacts. What is amazing is that in doing this I found the two slots have different contact patterns, why is that and how is it possible they have the same performance?

I also looked inside the K1ii slots, same differences.

Anybody has ideas about the second question, i.e. is there any way of doing fw upgrades without using slot 1?

K3 issues: card not visible and upgrades

Since some time, slot #1 of my battered K3 decided to stop working, so I am forced to only use slot #2.

However this seems to stop me from upgrading firmware as the card must be in Slot #1.

Any easy way to fix the card reader?

Any workaround for upgrading the firmware?

TIA
Maurizio

I beg to disagree, reframe a picture, for instance because you did not have a long enough tele (it recently happened to me when a couple dolphins popped out in the distance and I only had 70mm) and you tell me

Software corrected lenses a trend?

I think many people misunderstood the way these tools might be used. Ideally they would non increase sharpness, what they would do is to design for maximum sharpness and aperture, while NOT making the compromises needed to take care of other aberrations that can be cured in SW, or NOT using sophisticated materials like fluorite or aspherical lenses to correct these aberrations, that having BOTH high quality and low cost and weight. Of course the savings will NOT be entirely transferred to us…

Software corrected lenses a trend?

Why? I am not a feticist: provided all cameras or sw can apply it, and provided that the files come
out clean, this could lead to cheaper and lighter lenses for the same image quality or even better, with wider apertures. Why using costly and heavy glass when sw can achieve the same results? To acquire bragging rights?

Great lens,

now replaced after a crash by the almost as good but wider Sigma 8-16

Picture taken in Jerusalem, look at the corners and the colors to see the quality of this lens!

Sigma 2X-Pentax 150-450 combo working on K1ii, not on K3, why?

I am surprised it can be the 2x, which indeed is an EX which I bought together with the 70-200 f2.8. I rather thought it might be the body, is there any electronics in the multiplier? What for?

Sigma 2X-Pentax 150-450 combo working on K1ii, not on K3, why?

I have been experimenting with combinations of my long lenses, multipliers and bodies, and I came across this strange behavior. The newest K1ii happily shoots (in manual focus) with the Sigma 2X-Pentax 150-450, while the K3 refuses to show focus indicator or shoot. I also cannot change the settings because the screen appears for a split second and disappears, any Idea? In principle should be the reverse, the oldest working and the newer not. Just to show what the combo can do on the K1, here is a moon picture taken with it, multiplying magnification by 1.5 using the center of the image is an attractive proposition

A Belgian from Italy (or an Italian from Belgium) I have been using Pentax gear since 1979 and keep doing it against the odds. Over time I accumulated lenses which still work well for me, except I get less and less support from SW, a big issue.

I shoot mainly aircrafts (the other big passion), underwater (the other big passion, but no Pentax gear involved) and travel landscapes and architecture (the other big passion, not really good at stealing people images).

In the past I have been selling pictures to the weekly and monthly press, but now there is little business there, and I have no time for that, but I still behave like I could sell them, much to the chagrin of my wife...

Lately I went into making phonebooks of my travels, and into scanning all legacy slides, both gargantuan enterprises (if you add the same for videos and music... I'll be dead before I finish)
