Thank you very much for the advice, I just gave a trial, switching to fast shutter speed does work out.
Guess I need to do few more trials to justify do I really want to buy the extender. IMG10868_LAN by cosmos.man, on Flickr

Hi guys,
After purchasing the DFA150-450mm, I got good progress with my bird photography with the K-3III
But I still find it very very difficult to catch a bird in flight.
I wanted to shoot kingfishers, these cute tiny birds are just so fascinating.
If I buy a x1.4 extender, would it help a lot ?
According to Ricoh's official page, the viewfinder MAY not be displaying the the current focus point when the x1.4 extender HD is installed.
How often would this happen ?
Thanks for all your kind comments in advance

My 16-50PLM K-3III pair does misfocus sometimes under low light condition, plus zone AF setting.
I suspect it is the camera's problem rather than the lens ?

Would they do something to improve the performance of a discontinued lens ? I doubt that

I very much suspect that, the entire camera business of Ricoh is brought up by the still-selling-well GRIII series solely.
Anyone has the same feeling ?

I think K-3III monochrome is doing very well.

HD 18-50mm RE is removed ??
I thought it is a very very good lens to replace the obsolete body motor driven 18-55mm.

Oh Sorry, I posted on the wrong thread :(
anyway, I took these by K-3III with HD55-300mm PLM, you can see even with a budget zoom lens, K-3III is still doing pretty well

Welcome back !
I had the K-1 DFA24-70 before, sold them to move to K-3III HD*16-50 PLM.
Nice choice !

I just started my bird photography journey since last year, my setup is K-3III + HD55-300mm PLM RE.
I then realize the limit of this budget lens, and now thinking to move on to the famous HD DFA150-450mm.
Here is the question I would like to ask:
1) The total weight would be 2.8kg, is it portable and mobile ?
I did operate K-1 with DFA24-70mm at around 1.8kg for 5 years, not much a problem.
2) Is the tripod mount necessary for field operation ?
It adds another 180g, totally almost 3kg.
3) How do you carry the setup in the field ?
Some kind of accessories, like the peak design slide ?
4) Is a tripod or monopod necessary ?
5) What speed or class of SD card the K-3III can support ?
At last I like to share some of my wildlife photography, feel free to advise and comment. If memory serves me right
KP, K-3II and K-3 are actually the same AF system, just K-3II and KP got better algorithm (i.e. software).
K-1 uses a slightly improved system from K-3/K-3II/KP, the main difference is K-1 got more AF points on the sides. K-1II is same as K-1 but better algorithm (again).
K-3III of course is another story.
So basically I'd say there is 4 generation of AF system improvement in Pentax last 10 years
1. K-5IIS / K-5II
2. K-3/K-3II/KP/645Z
(Yes, 645Z using the same AF system)
3. K-1/K-1II
4. K-3III

I am also a HD 15mm user, I agree that is very flare-resistant in the entire market, for a 22mm wide lens.
Here are some of my works this year IMGP1833_KA by cosmos.man, on Flickr RETRO TV by cosmos.man, on Flickr
Even in such a complicated lighting condition, the lens shows no flare.
So back to the question, I think it is just the sun, any other given lens would have the same issue, probably much worse than HD 15mm

Yeah that's the thing.
Ricoh got profit, Pentax would survive.
I agree Ricoh is doing very conservative strategy, 645 system is like dead, KF is stupid, FF lens is growing but no new FF body.
I know, everyone got frustrated.
But dun forget the world market is changing rapidly, especially after the COVID, it is already miracle that RICOH is still alive and kicking.

Rather than how many is sold, I think Ricoh focuses on how much profit is made from K-3III

My worst guess is that, it is a rebranded K-70
Since it is produced at a very limited number (700 for each colour), I dun think it will go global

Congratulations! Enjoy all the photography fun with it!
Believe of not, I picked Pentax 10 years ago because of Limited lenses !
Actually 21mm is already the best for daily use, if you want some more flexibility 20-40mm would be a great choice
You can switch in between compactness and versatility.

If it is for business, the most advanced K-3III would be the only best choice.
Both K-3 and K-3II are obsolete for current standard

Astonishing!
Yes, the sensory technology evolves a lot within the last ten years.
I compare images produced by same lens (HD DA-15mm and HDDA20-40mm) with legacy K-3 and current K-3III
There are huge differences, I can see the K-3III is doing much better job.
I am quite sure the KP with new sensor plus accelerator unit would demonstrate the similar imaging power
