I would recommend to also mention the solution if anyone would have problem with selected manually aperture and blinking F-- (when lens is not in "A" [F22] mode).
"USING APERTURE RING".
On your K70 it's in the Menu, no. setting 24.
Switch it to "Enable".
That will release the shutter button when aperture is manually selected.
When "Disable" is selected, camera will not focus or shoot.

Hello everyone.
Sorted out. Turns out that it was me, not a faulty lens. I need to learn a lot more about manual lenses.
So, first of all, it is necessary to change setting of "use manual aperture ring" or whatever it's named to enabled.
Otherwise lens is blocking camera, unless aperture ring is set to "A" as you mentioned.
If it is, i can control aperture from camera (dial).
If it's not set to "A", this aperture ring setting HAVE TO be enabled.
All works now, I just needed to know how to use it.
Sorry about the fuzz lads.

Hi, so the lens is fully manual. Have no electronics or pins. Aperture and focus is manual.
I didn't know about that setting in menu you mentioned. I will investigate. I believe that it's not a damaged lens, it's just me being stupid :)

Hi!
I am a lucky (?) owner of that lens. Buyed as used in perfect condition. And it is.
But I installed it on my K-70 body last night, and I couldn't use it. Camera only flashes "F--" and That's it.
It start working when I move aperture ring to F22, and only then. When I move it even slightly, camera stops working. Freezes.
Doesn't even try to focus or shoot.
I know it's a manual lens, but even in Manual mode - it's the same.
Am I doing something wrong?
I have several old vintage lenses (including Jupiter made in USSR), using M42 adaptor, never ever have that kind of problem.
Is the lens faulty? Maybe damaged in transport?
And, also I noticed that when I set it to F22 and camera start working, it's actually set to F3.5, so camera body "thinks@ the lens is setup to F3.5 when the ring is set to F22 ??
Am I just stupid, or is that very, very wrong?
Please somebody explain it to me :)
Thanks in advance, and everyone - have a lovely day, and a great weekend too!!

AF/MF Focusing in Pentax system

There is a discussion on the FaceBook fanpage, and questions were asked.
Good questions.
So, considering only Pentax DSLR cameras and lenses, is it a true statement, that
lenses working in AF mode, can be adjusted manually (focus) without damaging lens focus motor/mechanism ?
Or is that not standard feature, and apply only to some lenses ?
OR, it is not a good practice, and it shouldn't be done to any lens at all?
Where truth lays?

Prime or (better) Zoom - Wide Angle for K-70

Hi.
I'm thinking about buying some wide angle lens.
Something between 10 and 25mm, aperture is not essential, anything between F1.x - F4 will do.
Lower price will be better.
For now I use Sigma 24-70 F2.8 EX DG IL HSM, and it's brilliant, but sometimes I really could use wider angle.
Fish Eye is OK too.
I really like Sigma lenses, I was looking for ART series of Sigma lens that have a wide angle, and I really struggle with finding one for Pentax K mount.
Are they even exist?
What is compareable to Sigma ART 10-20mm lens?
Have Tamron something as good, or should I look for Pentax lenses instead Sigma/Tamron ?
I would love to buy one of those "HD Pentax-DA* 11-18mm F2.8 ED DC AW", but it's out of my budget.
Maybe some dy, for now I look for used lenses, priced up to 300-400USD.

Oh well, bummer... If it won't work and at the end I will have to send lens to Sigma service, it still won't be the end of the world :)
Anyway, Sigma ART series is reasonably priced, and REALLY good, so who knows, maybe I will stick with Sigma lenses, and next will be something from the ART series :) ?
Dock might be handy in a future anyway.

Ok, fellas, now... I have a great update for you all.
Apparently, it is not widely known thing, but you can update a firmware, and change a lens settings at home, by yourselves !
There is a device called Sigma USB Dock.
See link:
Sigma USB Dock UD-01 PA for Pentax Fit Lenses

This device, and free Sigma software called SIGMA Optimization Pro (link below)
SIGMA Optimization Pro | Lenses | Download | SIGMA Corporation

Is enough to update firmware, and change most if not all available settings of lens.
Fits to all Sigma lenses, and you can get it in all existing camera fittings.
So you won't need to send lens to manufacturer, fill a RMA form, wait for shipping etc.
Brilliant!
And it cost only about 40 quid.
I just purchased it, and maybe I won't even need to send my lens to service centre anymore.

Let's not rush the facts. We will see after update.
Fingers crossed mate, it will work.
And I very much hope so :)
I will definitely enjoy it, I'm pretty sure about that.
That will be a nice change after using Sony Alpha 350 with KIT lens (LOL), but I loved it a lot.

Thanks everyone for advice and passing related thread.
I contacted Sigma Service Department in UK, they asked for some details about lens (serial nr etc), and they replied that lens does require firmware update to work.
Update is free, I pay only 14 quid for shipping the parcel, so very reasonable.
Turns out that Sigma service is very professional, they respond quickly, and treat clients with lots of respect.
Nice, I like that.
I will post dinal reply after I will receive lens back with updated firmware.
Thanks again.

Hello and good morning. I bought a new K-70 body, new SD card (64GB SanDisk Extreme Pro), 2 new batteries, and...
And used Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 EX DG HSM.
Lens looks fantastic, have no signs of usage, feels like new.
So body works just fine when I out SD card and battery inside, and turn it on (with no lens installed).
Firmware installed on body is v1. 11 (newest).
Problem starts when I install Sigma lens, and turn camera on.
It instantly freezes.
All buttons, screen is freezed.
I can't even turn camera off, it stays on!
Only turns off when I pull battery out.
I can press a shutter button, and aftes few seconds it makes a picture, but stays like dead.
When I remove lens, it works normally again.
Body is new, and there is no traces of damage or any issue is not visible/obvious.
Anyone have a clue what to do with that, or why it's happening?
How to fix it maybe?
What the problem is?
Please help, i contacted Sigma support also, and waiting for their reply right now.

Good morning.
My name is Lukasz (Lucas), and I become a (not yet) happy owner of a brand new Pentax K-70 body, and a brilliant Sigma 24-70mm 1:2.8 EX DG HSM lens that.. Doesn't work.
I registered my account to sort out how to fix that issue, but I will be a part of Pentax family after that too :)
Happy one hopefully...
Have a lovely day fellas!
