ZX-M body - faulty or normal with M lenses?

Thanks all,

Another to add to the list of MZ-M faults. Luckily I can send it back. This may be a common fault, problem I asked someone selling another MZ-M on ebay, his has an 'A' lens, and it has the same problem. Seems a bug, not a feature, because the half press doesn't do anything at all, and the shutter won't fire unless I first wake the camera up by turning a dial or using focus preview.

ZX-M body - faulty or normal with M lenses?

Hi

I've just bought a ZX-M body, for hiking because it's lighter than my LX and MG. From the ebay pics it looked like it had had very little use.

In manual, when I press the shutter button halfway the exposure meter doesn't turn on, as the manual says it should. It does turn on if I change shutter speed, exposure comp dial, or press focus preview. It's a pain that it disappears and doesn't appear with the aperture change, because it's not visible for long enough. I've shot a bit of contact cleaner into the button, but no change.

I've only got M lenses. Does that have anything to do with it?

Thanks

Is focussing screen accurate in MG/ME Super?

Great, thanks for all of those thoughts.

Yes, the main thing for me is that the same lens on the LX and the MG and ME Super is focussing at a significantly different point, maybe as much as 20% different distance. I'll have a try of the suggestions above and I'll have to run a test roll through to get an idea of how 'off' the MG may be.

Is focussing screen accurate in MG/ME Super?

Hi all,

Bit of background - I just bought a lovely Minox GT-E 35, and before I started using it thought I'd practice estimating distance by putting it onto a 4/3 camera - with mixed results. Then I wondered if the scale markings on my Pentax M prime lenses are accurate (50mm f1.7, 55mm f1.8, 35mm 2.8). So I measured the distance to an object (the lettering on my food waste bin!) at exactly 3m and focused with my MG. With what looks like perfect focus through the MG viewfinder, it's coming out exactly halfway between 3 and 5m on the lens. I checked it with my ME Super and same result. Then I focused with my LX and the lens shows just slightly over 3m.

Is the MG/ME Super focusing considered accurate generally? I bought the MG to replace my ME Super with dead electronics. I like the MGs lightness, and it has enough features for me. As I've been doing very little film photography I was planning to sell the LX, but now I'm wondering if the MG focusing can re relied on?

Thoughts?

Tickets were a bit last minute so I didn't have time to get Silbersalz35, which I reckon is the best value out there. So this is high street developing and scanning. And Ultramax does have a bit of an overexposed look even at box speed.

Both shot on Tungsten balanced Silbersalz35, but works fine in daylight with an orange 85c filter. Hammock is on T200, Rudbeckia flowers on T500.

Pentax MG, 50mm M, 1.7.

Pentax MG, M 50mm f2. Silbersalz35 Top is D50, bottom pic T500. (shot +1 stop).

In daylight I shot T500 with a 85C orange filter to correct the colour balance.

BTW: the black border on lower shot wasn't added in post to make it look retro! The scans you get back from Silbersalz include that border, and some pictures look a bit bare if it's cropped off.

Loving the colour and definition. How do you scan your images? With your own scanner? My frustration with film has been that of the three places that developed and scanned my films, they all pushed the contrast right up and blow out much of the detail.

Soon I'll upload some Silbersalz35 I took last summer. What I liked about them is the high quality of the scanning included as part of the price. But Silbersalz35 does need some colour correction.

Love the rich colour and the detail of the seats from the Ultramax 400 here. Nice composition. It looks a movie still.

Two friends of mine on Gold 200, both at f2 15th. Pentax ME Super, M50mm f2.

It would be hard to get colour this rich on digital.

Valbona Valley. Rain all day. Kodak Ektar, Pentax LX, M 135mm f2.8

The full album is here. Amazing country, although it would take a proper photographer to really do it justice.

Great, thankyou. It's re-assuring to know it will probably go away with a good service.

That's an interesting idea. I'll give it a go. Although I don't often shoot film with this and there's none in there now.

If that does make a difference, what would that suggest?

Wow! That's a riot of colour! When conditions are right that's what you get with film. Digital just doesn't quite manage that.

'Notchiness' is about the only word I could think of. It's just not completely smooth. It feels as if it's slightly catching right near the start of winding. But it's just briefly at the beginning, the advance lever never feels as if it won't wind on properly. And I think I probably only noticed it because it's not there if I've just taken a shot.

Probably would disappear with a service. I may not need an LX as I'm not shooting much film and quite enjoying an MG I got cheaply (I also have access to four K1000s). If I do sell I'd like to know it's not some well known LX achilles heel that would render it unusable at some point before moving it on?

After the electronics sadly died on my ME Super, I bought an LX body for a walking holiday in the Albanian Alps last spring (I highly recommend Valbonne valley). No sticky mirror or any issues on the LX, except....

If I've not taken a shot for a day or so, when I pull the film advance there is a very slight 'notchiness' at first, then it advances normally and smoothly. It's the same with or without film loaded. It's not something I'm used to on the ME Super, so I just got into the habit of leaving it wound on after each shot. Is that slight 'notchiness' (for want of a better word) normal or does it indicate something sinister?

Thanks
