PENTAX K-8 ? K-1 Mark II successor... What will it be/look like?

actually I said its about physics. and no "but the articles" ...

its just that there is a reason the crappy little cards fail, because they are crappy little cards. there is no way around it.

... I also guess if you feel like someone "spoke down to you" , there gotta be a reason you feel or project it that way.

And speaking for my person as a NON MODERATOR... (so actually an "outlaw" on PF it seems)
I also want you to note, that calling someones points a mess and putting " around the word "points" is even more condescending,
than just explaining the reasons why more space(so single cell memory tech) for your gigs may be a better thing.

I'll also try to explain one last time what I am actually talking about, since reh seems to have some confusion about CF / CFExpress.
And as I dont want people to believe something that is just not true (... THERE ARE/havebeen LOADS OF DSLRs using CF )
(because most people tend to believe in omnipresent voices and reh, man you DO post a lot in here, respect for that, but let me point out whats out there...>)

CF so actually CFast 2.0, even if you haven't seen it Reh..., was always there in pro-bodies even Pentaxes FIRST DSLR the first line of '*istD' offered a CF Card slot.
and no SD.
since MMC at that time(the actual predecessor of the SD) for a very good reason also was considered unreliable.

but AFAIR around that time,
the "MMC in new clothes" (the SD) was on the rise to become a very common media for cheap point and shoot cameras and MP3 players,
like the thomson lyra and such. and while it became more common it also became a little bit more reliable.
AND for that very reason it was implemented in consumer DSLRs.
whilst most cameras with a more professional claim ALWAYS incorporated CFast.
even some of Olympus Pro DSLRs DID use CFast alongside with their proprietary XD format.

Sony also did not want to force its users to this unreliable media, so in most of their costier cameras there was a memory stick port integrated.

serkevan,
I WILL NOT
set up statics and present it to you here, so you can just wipe them away with some "words of command" ...(or again call it a mess which you will not read anyway)
aint got the time for that kind of games.

I will also not present you a list of all the professional cameras in the history of DSLRs that DID use CF or CFast 2.0 cards... good men got to get some sleep somewhen. ;)

Just let me point out to you that
Nikons last pro grade DSLR to use CF cards was
the Nikon D5 which actually offered TWO CF Slots and ... :DZERO SD slots...
whilst

Canons last pro grade DSLR to use CF was
the Canon 1DX Mark II which also offered TWO CF (one CFast 2.0 and one Compact Flash UDMA-7) ... again ZERO SD slots...
and then its successor
the Canon 1DX Mark III
picked up the CFExpress (which improved a bit on XQD tech and was to find a broader acceptance among our consortiums/groups and the makers)

The cameras I know about without googling which use CFExpress could be:
Nikon D850

Sony a7S III
Panasonic Lumix S1 / S1R (Type B)
Nikon Z6 / Z7 I and II
Canon EOS-1D X Mark III
Canon EOS R5
Canon C500 Mark II
Nikon D6

there may be even a lot more that I dont know about.

And Serkevan, I really dont know why you go on fishing for compliments and argue like someone who has been grievously offended,
while people just try to argue with you on a very objective/factual level.
But i guess you 'll be OK with that and coninue since there seems to be support for that kinda attitude. tex last post makes that pretty clear.

Let me recapture your answers on the last poster in short:
First ... you are wrong
Second ...you are wrong
Third ... do as i say, you are a mean person.(what tone is there in argumentation?whut?)

mod agrees without a reason. nice forum.... bye bye and have fun going on like that.

I never said trust me.
Again:
I T I S P H Y S I C S.
It's just that according to some people here on the forum every professional must be wrong.
And that is so because they are willing to give away 2k for a body with outdated tech,
but they whine about 40bucks or so they would have to add to the price of the cost of an sd-card.
Where is the logic in that. sry but i dont get the point.
Thing is you guys can try to overtalk facts and do libel on me or yourselves.
And OK chitchat about figures and how you use SD professionally. Sry u can use it professionally ... If you have to. But cmon... Lol

If i can decide i would go for a body that can take small punch without cracking a prism housing or caput a user element(wheel)
and I would be glad if I can use CFExpress card in it.

And so would everybody else of you guys.
Really.
Its the same people lamentering about what I said who go up in flames now,
as back than when we said we need a fullframe...
the same people back than said no one needs that and called it
"Fool Frame" !! Wonder how many of those bought a K-1 shortly afterwards... Hm?

Its a coalition of the same old lame old "only what I have now can be good thing"-thing problem people and the
"It has to be nearly for free but I want to sell it to my customers superprofessional" gang.
Pls stop telling others going out fishing for the great white shark in a nutshell is a good idea...
Because that never worked out so well.
And again:
Its not meant as an insult to the gear you are working with.
PLS GET RID OF THAT IDEA.
And why should the next camera actually be the same camera as the one before???
Where in gods world does that make sense?
If you are happy with your K-1s and KPs... Fine!
But you have them already.
If you think that those 2 models are the very best cameras in the world. OK.

Who forces you to immediately buy the next model?
And if you want things cheap, why dont you just keep it cheap and buy consumer models?
If all you care about is just that you want ONLY ONE card slot and THAT one to be an SD card, because you dont plan to go pro but want that feeling that focal lengths fit what your doing.. So say it aloud and clear:
Say:
I want a cheap consumer FF.
Just state that clearly.

But dont tell people its a good idea to save important work on cards which small slide lanes splinter off guaranteed after heavy use for app 1 year... Dont do that i beg you especially if you dont know without googling, what is meant with ECC or SLC.

And why do some people take party in such discussions when the neither shoot professionally nor ever shot fullframe...?

Reminder again and again and again:
We are actually talking in here about what should come next.
Do yourself a favor and dont take it as insult on the gear you have.
At least:
I have the same gear. But I am honest to myself when I think about what I want to see again and what not.
And I take my right to say what I think.
And if you say otherwise a thousand times I could do the same.
But you may have advantage because I'll give up on that thread.
Because it happened exactly what I say should not happen.
In the beginning of that thread I wrote that it may not be for you or you should realize the intent was to talk about future body(ies) and NOT
If the gear thats already there should be consirered bad because it could be done better.

What was the title of the thread were in here again?
:)

And I dont really feel I could hurt anybody with what I wrote here. At least we are all grownups I guess.

So i really dont know why you want to ignore facts and go up in flames over and over again.
You can do that again if you want to over and over I am out of this .
I just cant help myself.. Talking for my part i dont get away from thinking :
Some things that came with the K-1 are just Plumbus.
('Rick and Morty'-Fans may get the point what I mean with that.)
Have a nice life going on like that.
I'll think of you when I roast my morning bacon over my new Sony SD-cards... Lets see how long that ones will last.

---------- Post added 03-17-21 at 03:48 PM ----------

BTW dear moderators cut down trim down what you want I am outa here anyway .
If you want to delete the thread as a whole.
I guess it was a bad idea to try that discussion anyway I dont have the time to repeat myself over and over.

*rolleyes* ... Gotta love the confusion...
Again:
Its not about the e-dials..
Because they have been there since K-7
And sit exactly where you need them.
One on the back where your thumb is..
And one on the front of the grip where the pointing finger finds it immediately.
And yes you are right... With those 2 and the actual mode dial.
That was also there on the K-7 already and a lot of other traditional models,
you dont have to lift your Eye from the viewfinder.
100% correct congrats.
Especially if you read the manual
Changing ISO via holding the iso button and turning the rear e-dial is easy ...
Not holding ISO-Button and turning it will set the aperture...
Whilst most of the time you would change the time with the front e-dial.
You can do a lot of configurations.
which already open an overwhelming amount of possibilities...
Right so far. But...could you tell a grownup,
what kind of advantage do I get from additional wheels that offer redundant functionality thats already there in a lot of ways??
What else do they add to the design of our cams, than
3-5mm protruding moving weakpoints that may make me think im holding a fuji.. What?
Sry I dont get the point even if you repeat your mantras again and again.
Its the same with those new japanese designs that add weird looking shiny application element to kind modern touchy grip "beleathering".
I once chose a K-5IIs over a D600 . And i did not that because the K-5IIs looked fancier and had a lot of fancy input elements...

And no... CF Cards do not fail as often as SDs because they actually dont .
And CFExpress will also be nearly 100% unlikely too fail ...easy as that.
And that has nothing to do with a one-day experience.
A lot of expertise tells me that.
Physics tell you that. Because there is much more space ...
The small room SDs offer causes a lot of heat.
Get your bacon ready gentlemen...
There is also no and I said NO space left for fallback
""banks"" and SD's are very unlikely to offer SLC-grade cells because of the space.
Also not the slightest chance for any kind of good ECC.
So there is not even the slightest chance you can say an SD can be on the same level as an CFExpress or XQD. Read it slowly: NOT A CHANCE.
There is a good reason broadcasting cameras dont use SD... but they do/did use CF,XQD, CFExpress.
Sry for you guys but if you want
Real "PRO GEAR" you will need PRO MEMORY MEDIA

And if 20 Pro-SD guys together hop in a circle and tell each other to have a good time... Then yeah ...
Youll have a good time...
But you will not change fact.
You will not change physics.
Sry I have to say so.
But what this brand needs is honesty from their customers. Otherwise they wont change anything.
We will never profit fromthis "nah everythings a okay"..

Or do you really believe that?

I would also go for that camera immediately...
IF... it would have one CFExpress Slot at least.

AND:
I really DO hope, they make a more "considerate" decision
...on their FF AF module.
Since i think the AF POINTS should spread out much further to the sides and the top and bottom of the frame.

...and on their chassis design.
Because if you look at the K-1s insides... its only half a chassis... (or 3/4) ... no idea why so...

I really cant understand the split they try with the flagship line...

All I wanna say K-1 's such a fine machine, that would actually be pretty robust,
but then they compromised that for additional wheels and gps ... wt.?
And I really dont understand, why i would like to buy a FF Pro Body with only a consumer media storage option.
Today my 3rd SD-Card is gone... (Pro Grade SanDisk)... physics is just physics and cards THAT small are much more error prone than CF or CFExpress by design...

Even if I would never switch from a K-1 to a D800 (though the D850 is tempting I give em that)
I really have to admit ... I look with envy on that CompactFlash slot of yours... since its really THAT much more robust.

My (nearly) ""father in law"" had a canon and i guess my father also had some(very early) dslr with CF
... even the AGE OLD CompactFlash Cards
with about 64MB ... man ... they still work in my OLD canon... like time has nothing on em...

If they want to build FF for the cheap, they should build it more cheap as a whole.

Just like the K-30 but with a FF sensor... I would not loose a word over such a camera offering only SD.
And I guess if they offer that along with standard lenses(that are doing very fast and accurate AF - no matter the f-stop)...
They would even sell a lot more units than the K-1 if they would offer it for a moderate price...
and gain back more marketshare.
Because thats actually what the market is missing. A "quite capable" consumer grade FF-DSLR... (everybody else seems to go only MILC)
And if all the others do that and just half heartedly try to keep their TOP-line DSLRs alive,
there are only two ways to go:
Either keep on holding onto DSLRs with FF sensors instead of just going MILC.

So you could take away as much as you can from the other brands
consumers and prosumers DSLR shooters by offering a FF-consumer DSLR
(you dont find FF in the consumer line-ups of the other makers so strong)
and every 3-4 years produce a flagship DSLR thats en par with the others MILC standards.

OR forget all the good "new year resolutions" and go all in on MILC.
(But I am pretty sure that going MILC will not work out for PENTAX because they are too late to the game... again)

That was my thought also when i thought about the next (flagship)full frame...
Something like a Sony A99II(with classical mirrorbox and k-mount of course) or a Nikon D850
I would really dig it if it would offer at least ONE CFExpress slot...

just recently the write protection slider from one of thos tinsy little SD-cards just came off.
And its not that this was an expensive one... was a sandisk top-league card.
really i hate it when this happens and its not the first time, ... not to speak of read errs...

..of course it only happens when you really do a lot of photography.
Its rather unlikely that this occurs to someone who doesnt shoot that often
But i really think a pro body should offer one pro-slot.(Didnt the Nikon D850 offer the option to choose what cardslots you want to have???)

I guess you may be right somehow, but if you think about it,

consider that the KP hardware actually may also have been less capable than the K-3/K-3II(8.7fps stills) for instance and i feel the K-3 was a bit more responsive.
But maybe I am wrong I had the KP only for a short test for about half an hour or so.
There also was a video on youtube from pentax/japan where some photog close to ricoh actually talked that they considered nice video (also in low light)would be a good thing to have and they upped the framerate for that reason.

AFAIR, it was Albert Siegel. Wait. Here:

What you say is just 100% misconception.
I know a lot of salesmen, visited Photokina and talked to reps... and believe it or not...

The makers DO listen to what the customers say.
(otherwise pentax wouldnt have dared to go FF - they themselves didnt believe in the success of the K-1 until they saw people go after it like it was hotcake)
Also keep in mind that RICOH is an openminded company with app ¥70.000 billion net income and PENTAX is their 'cultural heritage' prestige-project.

It seems that they just stepped over a certain point, where they realised that,
(!! despite some members in here stated over and over that AF in pentaxland would be sufficient, and no one would need video or faster cards... ??!!)
leaving AF and video behind will not lead them anywhere.
Most likely because they may watch other platforms also ... (like other forums and reddit or so)

And the discussion about it is dead, since the K-3III ups the game in exactly that 2 points and marks the realization of where they were mislead.

And no RICOH does not make the camera especially for YOU or me...

it produces cameras for the majority of their customers, and so:
it totally makes sense to state wishes on what you would appreciate in a new DSLR...

If you find a majority of people that are with you... and you guys state often enough what you want,
you may get what you want.

It just seems that the forums doesnt represent a majority of pentax-users any more, because i always see the same people writing in here.
(app 6-8 people always seem to reign hype posts, and their sayings are mostly the same over and over.... )
It seems a certain few members in here just want to be right on everything and wanna look like they could forecast everything, and that is not going to lead anywhere.
So you could at least try to spread a bit more positivity before you go down the same road, Serkevan.

But friendly statements/suggestions (with or without reasoning) --from more than one user!-- may help to pull our beloved K-mount into the future.

Sorry, I dont want this to sound rude, but it seems you either dont know what you are talking about
or you dont know how things are made these days.
There are smartphones from very small makers which dont cost more than 100bucks. (with win-margin calculated into the price-tag)
Those devices have so much more crammed onto small space in some ways,
including speakers, GPS, sensors, temp sensors, headphone jack, wifi-bt unit exshetera exshetera and rec vids in 4k...

I know the saying :
Pennies add up to pounds,
but the pennies adding up to the pounds,
which make producing a DSLR a heavy lift for Ricohs PENTAX branch,
do come from elsewhere but for sure not from having an additional position on some mode dial.

Interestedly I read how you were able to ignore, that I made clear,
that having this radio in your car would only possibly make it go faster and not slower.

This car-radio-comparison anyway is ridiculing the matter, admitted,
but your assumptions on the other hand are a bit far off from reality. TKIF...

Even if you now say, you carry around 4 different flagship cameras and you only record videos with an overpriced apple-phone...
how does that fit your assumptions? and why does it matter? I dont have any clue and I already can imagine what the answer(s) will be.

I actually dont have a clue what your question was about anyway since its beating a dead horse,
since RICOH upping the video-bitrate in the KP
already seems to signal, that they finally have accepted that video IS a thing considered by many
(even if its not true for 'cometguy') ... other (potential) Pentaxbuyers.

(many pentaxbuyers, think, PENTAX produces the cameras especially for them, why so? no clue...)

Nonetheless, I dont know, you and I myself am more watching the forums than writing here, but If I would know better,
I would be tempted to say you are trolling, and trying to put a bee into the (RICOH-PENTAX)bonnet, for whatsoever reason.

(because, the only reaction on a camera which would not only be behind in terms of video but completely leave it out, I can Imagine,...
Would be: Now PENTAX completely lost its mind and its last non-hardcore-customers... from like everyone in the industry.
Those are nice thoughts somehow .. but thoughts dont always have to become words on a forum you know?

Especially when the initiator of the thread CLEARLY STATED:
THIS IS ABOUT NEW IDEAS and NEW TOPICS ... for an UPCOMING FULL FRAME FLAGSHIP...

You are ridiculing the idea of the thread, by coming up with an age old back-and-forth topic thats special to PENTAX(forums)
even the dinosaurs already chewed on what you are suggesting, ...
This sounds like all this "We dont need a fullframe and it will not be a success anyway" that was so present before the Pentax K-1 came.

---------- Post added 01-27-21 at 01:53 PM ----------

C'mon people I am sure we can do better than: "hey, lets leave out vids"... (!!!LOL) I am 100% sure this is not a new idea. *sigh*

I suggested wanted to point out again it was NOT my intent talk about EXISTING PRODUCTS... but about ideas and wishes for new FF DSLR.

There were none, zero, zip, NULL, NIL, sacrifices made in favor of video on the K-1II.

Actually its the other way around,
if you want faster bus, faster buffer, faster burst, faster af, faster darkframe-substraction, and actually all the things that are important for an outstanding stills performing camera...
You would normally have better video on it too.

Because despite the sensor... it just comes down to the capabilities of the chipset and its internal bus(es) what your camera can do in a certain amount of time.
Its just like saying, do you think, my car could go faster if i change the car-radio?

It just doesnt matter if you make small changes or add a small part to the firmware.

So you should actually welcome a stills camera that is capable of recording 6K to 8K,
and good video-AF
because that would bring with it:
Capability to save faster, so a faster cardslot format - so you can do endless stills bursts...
better noise-reduction(dark-frame subtraction needs cpu-time also),
better stills AF-C
etc. etc.

and despite all that - pentax video functions are a bit of a stub anyway,

which really does not take away anything from the stills capabilities of this camera.
there was and is not much too it in pentaxland. no Log, no option to choose bitrate, no choice between bitrate/fps scenarios etc. lagging video-af

there have been no major changes to pentax video for ... *sigh* ... AGES...

and looking at the sales number- .. i would say this is a failure.
because companies dont exist out of pure love for their brands, and all the millenials and the new photo-addicts always look at the complete specs list.

and if ricoh sells no pentax bodies and no pentax glass, chances fade away we see any upgrades ... be it glass or camera.

What took away the most, I guess, was implementing:
-additional firmware functionality so you can shovel around info tiles on the main-lcd.
-GPS and NFC(which they took away so they did not compromise the GPS signal I guess)
(they even had to break their production and design principles, and nearly kept that frugal chassis design, thx god, thats gone now.)

SO the answer to what you are essentially asking IMHO oppinion can only be:
No there was no sacrifice made to have video in the K-1II.

I will not recap in how many ways the functions on the dials are already redundant ...
but i want to note,
I never said anything about a "top screen"...
(I think you are talking about the info-lcd on the shoulder which experienced photogs use to save battery
if settings-reflection on it is sufficient, since they dont have to chimp every pic on the main screen)

... I just mentioned that IF you think you NEED 2 or up to a 3287 additional wheels on your camera....
for whatsoever reason...
^^ I just would consider it a good idea if such "multifunctional and very important" dials,
would sit partly inside the body or would be designed somehow else like the MZ-S/MZ-D dials...
and thought about a tilted shoulder like on the MZ-D -Design or the 645Z design.
MZ-D | The K-Mount Page

there are certainly other points that could need improvement over additions to the outside appearance of the bodies,
to make the Pentax FF ecosystem more interesting...
(I am just thinking about many makers stopin their SLR lines... which could actually really lead to more people considering pentax if RICOH makes the right product decisions. )
... and maybe we should talk about something else than 'mode-dials', so RICOH-people can hear our thoughts on it instead of reading about dials "yay or nay" stuff.

I dare to say AF.
I dare to say CFExpress Slots.(you can literally roast a quails egg on an SD-card after a series of burst shots or a video session.)
I dare to say cheaper consumer standard zooms.

I sincerely hope someone else also dares to write down his thoughts here,
about what else would should/could be improved in a future FF-Body.

Though I am not the greatest fan of Fuji, as you may know by know,
I think there can be found many interesting ideas in other makers cameras.

Has anybody of you ever tried other makers flag-ship models?
What did you like what did you dislike?
I personally like the LEICA SL2 handling though i also found the Samsung NX-1 menu-system very interesting.

I dont think its possible to satisfy everybody... but i think its possible to have a discussion without accusing others of something.
Thats at least something isnt it?

Since you say you dont understand, I will try to explain one last time before I take this issue to the grave:

adding just a wheel to an otherwise nearly flawless design, that adds redundant functionality is something very far from brilliant...

Just DONT TELL ME but ASK YOURSELF what :
what could you not do or set without the wheels in a matter of a second or or a bit more??

But pls UNDERSTAND I write this only as a matter of principle, since you really ASKED for it,
because,
I also already stated that I see it CAN be practical in some very rare situations, where a photographer wears very thick gloves.
Really I get it. Not such a bad thing.

I dont see WHY "liking something as a whole" but also providing positive criticism about one or two points in that product, you may not like*
(*or see is superfluous)
...is something that can not be understood?

If I wouldn't like to call myself a rational being,
I would go so far and ask WHAT point you are trying to make.
I also could go into details and EXPLAIN exactly what I do like in the K-3III design especially.

But since you havent read from the beginning I will just repeat what I already stated and you will get the long version of an answer to my points you seem to not understand,

since you really ASKED for it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

SUMMARY
--> a) redundant functionality
--> b) corrupting the "rough and tough" principle.
(since its protruding - for the very own reason i would like the shoulder to be tilted)

And Pentax Designs (up to some point) tried to keep things pretty simple but also with a subtonal very modern touch,
and an overall look that some people may or may not call "INDUSTRIAL"
... AND THAT IS STILL THERE AND ALSO KEPT ALIVE IN ALL THE NEW BODIES
(for that point amongst other points I not only ""PURPORTED**"" to, but really love the design of the new K-3III.. )

Talking only for myself:
I just can not see, how one can be so upset, because someone other is not OK with a little detail in a design and makes his points...
... so you want to blame him to be irrational. why is that?

For me personally, THE WHOLE DESIGN does NOT consist of 2 elements that have not even existed in ANY pentax camera design up to 2016..
To me there is a bit more to a camera, and for that reason i said i liked the design.(which has several other reasons.)

I never said that there would be a not understandable 180° turn in design, so please dont start to blackpaint me.
Or do if you want to... I will not make further responses on such attempts since I'v seen how this ends in here so often.

As for your problem with understanding why I see a "fuji turn" in the "since Pentax K-1"-designs:
FOR ME PERSONALLY... :
They *(Fuji)
also do sacrifice "rough&tough"-integrity over stylistic elements.
for instance, ...
just look at their mechanical shutter release cable ..
its a pure fancy-schmanzy thing, and counteracts the sense in having a REMOTE
(which TODAY actually would be to have a release totally seperate from the camer so nothing can move, when you release)
another example... Shutter-Time-Dials....
One of the initial ideas behind front- and rear-e-dials
(if you think hu what is this, those are the dials right at your index finger and your thumb that have been present at least since the K-7)
was to get rid of such Shutter-Time-Dials...
They are __PER SE__ STYLISTIC ELEMENTS nowadays...

now take a straight look at some FUJI XT-3 from the front... put the K-1 next to it and look again.
then go and allage again that this is an irrational assumption.. :)

Or go and take a look just right here --->
ahem, ahem ... - Album on Imgur

So I hope you understand my point now. ... (I thought it would be unfriendly to not answer and hope you are OK with it.)

JUST ONE LAST QUESTION concerning the mystery-dials:
If you would have to decide between a movable display and the oh-so brilliant dials...
would you really go for the dials?? I hardly doubt that.

But I have the feeling many people blew up those wheels into being something totally sensational, so we now have the problem,
that RICOH chose to listen to those customers... and maybe heard the wrong music play, which in their ears was:
mode dials more important than moveable display. pls pls, pentaxians need more of those mode dials. :) ?

I really believe RICOH-PENTAX Imaging produces great cameras, but we are a niche brand now.
And when it comes to money and production efforts, decisions have to be made, and if you sing the wrong songs in here...
(you do have a loads of visits) you may end up with "brilliant" dials but without a moveable display.

I am also aware of the fact, that I am not part of the majority, when I admit the awful truth:
Moveable displays in my humble oppinion also are a thing I dont need.

I am also one of the few people who is really happy about the fixed display and the closed case,
because you will see that many of you will be happy as a clam with the solution RICOH will offer ...

I am pretty sure the K-3III will be a supersolid tank of a camera and way more reliable than some Canon body.
(I have bad experiences with Canon gear throwing odd error numbers at me all the time )

THING is: You can argue FOR or AGAINST the wheels, I dont care anymore, I do have my point, and others have theirs.
For me its totally OK, and again like I said:
having the mystery-dials on the camera or not will not play a role on my other thoughts about this camera.

I just wanted to make clear for me there is a little bit more to the issue, than "just not liking them" .
But I will let you live with your oppinions and decisions from now on.

So since I hope i was able to answer jpzk's and sandys questions I am not going into this again.

Far more interesting:

To avoid any misunderstanding, I understand your point, and the fact that I dont like SOME things about FUJI does not mean I dont like ALL things about FUJI.
For one, I like many ideas and design elements in fuji cameras that dont sacrifice "integrity" or "functionality"...
For instance that they seem to prefer metal over plastic and some models are aviable silver colored with brown leathering... ^^
Jokes aside, ...

I think thats a good idea you did jot down here, but I am not so sure, if there would not be some other options for sensor.

I can always only talk for myself, but I would buy such a camera even if it offered only 20-24MP on its full frame sensor...

And i really think it does not have to be too rugged or so, if it does or should not play in the flagship price-league.
I would be OK with it if it would be just WR.

You already said it for yourself... the question is if RICOH would offer the resources to produce such a body to their PENTAX Imaging Team.
Not if it can.

And when you think about how you can avoid spliting off potential K-1 league buyers, the only way I see for now would be to keep the pixel count way below 40-36MP....
and I dont think that 36MP would be the only option and fear that would still be too much.
Looking at all the 24MP Sensors Nikon might have bought from Sony, I am pretty sure they still offer lower pixel-count FF sensors for very reasonable prices.
(D780 => 24,5MP)

RICOH will just have to be convinced somehow, that people would buy such a camera.
Not so long ago I had a talk with an official from RICOH and they could have dropped the K-1 way earlier(around when the first K-3 arrived) if they wanted to.
But the problem was that nearly no one from the japanese leadership team had high hopes or believed at all that a Pentax Full Frame would sell at all.

And partly they may have been right to do so.
They first had to cook up the forums, and drop FF lens designs at some photo-expos to make people curious and talk about it.
And they did quite good, because despite being not a D850... The Pentax K-1 Mark I sold really excellent and the Mark II also sold quite well and still ranks in high at several camera Top 10's in some magazines and websites.

So I think it is very possible that Pentax decides to drop a cheaper "not so pro"-model around the same time they deliver a K-1 Mark II successor...

And how this will look like, could indeed depend on our discussions in here.
So be careful what you wish for ... you might get it.

Which brings me to the thought, that such a K-?0 Full Frame camera (however the bodys physical appearance is designed) could come
in multicolored variants like other pentax models before... I always liked that.
Just imagine a pentax full frame DSLR - jamaican style ^^

#pentaxlove
(sry bout the bad english by the way.)

No honestly, stop thinkin about what i said about the dials, I have just dropped my 2 cents, and you asked for an explanation by imputing pretense to me when using the word
"purported"
...admited my english is bad and I am not Butler Yates, but I do know how to use a dictionary sandy.

Also gotta say: "pres589" has an important** Point here and I think that may be the most important question,

which could bring to an issue,
if Pentax again starts selling loads of units again,
like in the old times:

Will there be a SuperCheap and SuperSimple FF Spotmatic in a weather-sealed plastic body
with the usual according 2 reliable but cheap zoom lenses?

Dont you think especially THAT could be THE strategy?
Even more so, when you say you dont want to go MILC anyway?
(I dont read insider news .. I just look on the new models from time to time)

I feel pentax-products would profit from a more widespread discussion with new voices.

**(for all the pentaxians who wish for more 3rd party support and other photogs wearin the brand so we keep our club alive here)

Sorry for writing that much, but i had the feeling this forum is drying out a bit, when it comes to thoughts about new products
and all the talk,
is about the products we already know about will come or that are already there.

See the discussion about the wheels ...
yes you like them on the products that are already there, but :

I really feel they are easy to hit when you drop your cam.
I WOULD be ok with the wheels -- no question, but not in that form.

1st i really sense this as a cheap move to attract fuji-hipsters...
2nd and most important and prominent problem:
its the weak old wheel design from ages ago.

I could think of wheels like the one on the MZ-S(or the vapor K-1 digital version of the analog MZ-S)
thats just around the display...
especially, when the shoulder of the new camera would be slightly tilted just like on the 645z.
Which (!if done right!) could offer way more safety to the integrity of the camera.

I dont want people to actually only brawl about if this or that feature is "yay" or "nay"... when you can not do anything about it anymore,
since those products are already on the market or are made public with their final design...

And when I am thinking about better wheels or no wheels at all, I dont want to talk bad about products that are already there.
and if yay or nay...
I just want to see if there are open minds, for other solutions...
and other designs like the 645Zish... or generally new design(ever thought about it? something totally new, that could look totally oldschool)
I remember back in the days I found a fan mock-up of a DIGITAL SPOTMATIC.
Man did that thing look attractive and I really think this would have also been a way or would still be a way to go.
and keep that nostalgia touch in our cameras.

And despite that I personally would say, the functionality of those wheels is REDUNDANT
and all the settings can easily be made with the touch of 2-3buttons,
but :
One has to admit its good and very practical to have a way to make those settings more easily when you are outside and wearing gloves.
For that reason, photogs used to only wear plumbers gloves in winter for ages, i guess. :)
But if those wheels would not protrude out of the body so dangerously, you guys at Ricoh would make me a happy man, that is.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

K-1 Mark II successor...
What will it look like?

  • What specs will it offer?

  • Will it outperform the new K-3III?

  • If not will it sell at all?

  • Are we still fond of those...
    (IMHO superfluous super-redundance offering)
... wheels on top of the camera?

I mean which (in addition to the housing under the hotshoe)
are the first things to go caput if you drop your gear
and it hits the floor with its top/shoulder?

  • Will we need more than 50mp?
or would even 42MP be enough?

I personally like the design of the 645Z a bit more than the design of the K-1.
If you take away the immense medium-format mirror-box on the mount-side of the 645Z,
wouldnt this be the ideal design for a full frame K-Mount
Professional Camera??

Admitted, I like the idea of having a Joystick to choose focus points.
But other than that?
I mean choosing "video", "off", "normal", "liveView" should be possible to choose with the lever around the shutter release?
What do I need an extra dial to do so for? That stands off about half an inch or so?

Mode dial, front e-dial and rear e-dial are enough dials for my taste, since I feel buttons are much less
error prone than wheels.

I used to remember when after 5 years of intense use or so the time-dial of the 645N models would come off and
generally feel that i would profit from a more "Canon 5D"ish design(With just a bit less buttons.*) in the next K-mount full frame.
*I mean you can overdo it on every side.

Another reason I dont like those wheels:
I DONT need my Pentax to look like a Fuji to be cool, because its actually already a PENTAX or is it not?

The design I liked the most was the Design of the K-5II but despite those

useless additional wheels...
[which actually EVERYBODY would trade in for TILTY-FLIPPY-SCREEN immediately]

... I also like the design of this new K-3III and think its a good thing,
that they chose durability and a full shell over this cheap GPS-inside marketing trick for the new APS-C flagship.

Pentax K-3 II successor on September 2020

I am using the K-3 for nearly 7 years by now.
It just goes on and on... :) Like the duracell rabbit.

And since the Pentax KP never meant an upgrade for me 'cause:
it misses a second card slot, its burst are slower and buffer isnt that deep,
plus the top is some kind of plastic
and it misses an info display so i cant shut off main LCD ... (no certainly no flagship)
... I just kept the K-3 for shooting APS-C and for more tele-reach.
and it still delivers nice shots even at motor-sports when combined with my 50-500, despite all the ridiculous not-for-sports talk, the Sony/milc fanboys like to spread.
Some of them even shoot an A7RII which actually delivers only 5fps which is a joke compared to the K-3s nearly 9fps... still they have their mouth wide open.
And then they even write in pentax specific groups on social networks or in forums and tell you how they like Pentax and what "weak spot" they have for it...
(weak... spot...) and do advertising for those eye-lazering EVF crap bodies that cant even stand one rainshower... thats soo ridiculous somehow.

So I really like that K-3 kit, you know... and I will keep using APS-C for a quick tour or maybe for travelling when on vacation...
So the ultrawide indeed IS an interesting thing for me.
But since "Squirrel Mafia" asked:
Would I upgrade something else than the short range lenses?
Probably not. ... no or honestly: definitly not.
I really dont think they have to upgrade the DA* 50-135mm for instance...
It would be far more intelligent to make something like the "Tamron 35-150mm F2.8-4 Di VC OSD" for FF... which is actually everything you will ever need when shooting a wedding...
(despite some ultra-wide-angle for group shots)
And though the Tamron already stops down to F:3.2 at already 50mm, I would say it can replace the DA* 50-150 to the fullest
and talking about full, it would be a hit for both, FF and APS-C photogs.
And it would only weigh app. 100grams more i guess.

Maybe it would make sense to build a really lightning fast and accurately focusing 50-200 PLM WR lens and pack it with a kit in the consumer follow-up of the K-new,
to better promote PENTAX (if you want to look at this brand like a system)
as more modern....

But I would leave it at that one lens, since the usual Pentax APS-C user seems to be totally satisfied with wirrionging and fuzzing screwdriver-af-driven prime lenses
of which most also arent weather resistant, but deliver astonishing good results.
And despite rebooting every Crop-Lens Design doesnt seem to be a good idea for several reasons
...which would not only mean a huge investment for Ricoh, but also one that is really hard to believe it would pay off.....
doing so would also counteract their affirmation that RICOH wants to concentrate a bit more on their FF sector in first place.
And concentrating on the FF market

or even releasing a consumer FF would be a way better Idea than pulverizing money on rebooting APS-C lenses.

The only chance i see for rebooting crop-glass to work out fine for RICOH and us their customers,
would be if they do these reboots on a real high quality level... with less pieces per series.
those reboots would have to be like the DA 20-40mm ltd somehow. construction wise...
AND that may be an idea that could mean success... though THAT may be even more risky than just rebooting cheap lenses (if you look at sheer numbers)
but that would not hurt PENTAXs reputation so much like a total fail AND cheap built lenses.

Additionally I gotta say, producing cheap but more would feed greedy trolls like this Northrup guy, because where other brands/makers can fail and everybody taps tham on their shoulders because they do a lot of advertising and presents to influencers...
Pentax always has to do it up to the 100% it seems ... Maybe that is because bribery aint in Ricohs List for a better world at the moment....
or I dont know why.
However, it seems to be a rule by now. Especially when I look at the latest issues of Northrup and the phoblographer...

where I dont leave on comment any more ....
But hey actually but maybe I should...
Since I really havent read much comments on those rants against pentax for whatever reason.

PENTAX DFA70-300 SR patent public

Hi there!
My first post on PentaxForums, despite I am shooting PENTAX for quite a while now.

I can only hope you will not tar and feather me for writing such a long post.

I gotta say I nearly lost hope in PENTAX proceeding on their way upwards quality-road,
since I missed some important aspects in the latest products...
But since I saw the presentation-video I found hope again, because of several reasons
(one of them was the presentation of the D FA *85mm f:1,4 and especially the D FA Ltd. 21mm which I think will pave the way for more photogs buying Pentax again...)
...
And THIS new patent shows,
they wil go up this road much further than all those nay-sayers prophesized...

I really enjoy the in-body SR with the moving sensor on old lenses.
But i gotta admit, as much as I love bedrock Pentax... there indeed is a reason I never sold my Sigma 50-500 DG OS HSM lens.
and guess what... It is the optical stabilizer. Having OIS or whatever you want to call it, is a real marvel for long tele-shots.
When I shoot above 130mm or so, I just turn off body-internal SR(which saves a lot of battery and prevents counter-acting of the sensor SR)
and the lenses OS is really like freezing the frame when it locks the AF
and I feel it a little bit more capable then I would,
when shooting the DFA 70-200 at 200mm with at/above F:5,6 and the in-body SR turned on.
The only thing left to hope is PENTAX considering at least one CFExpress slot in their upcoming cameras.
Not only because it could practically leave out the buffer when writing a burst of shots to the card(since with a good bus they would literally hop directly on to the card),
but more so because its way more robust...
I know all the talk from Sony A7III shooters on Youtube about their SD-cards doing pretty fine, and no one ever had an SD fail them, but i dont believe those stories.

I do photogaphy for a while now, and it has been at least 3 SD-cards that totally killed my day, and those werent the cheap ones.
The heat on those little chips of plastic is actually quite massive. I really feel the CF-slot in the *ist D and the cards did way better.
Nonetheless... I gotta stop phantasizing of the bright future and whatever they will do to top the release of the new 85mil... :D
(which specs-wise already looks like an Otus with AF, ...darn I want to have it!!)

Actually i wanted to say I am really happy PENTAX is going down that road with the stabilizer.
And despite the fact, that Pentax's own DFA 150-450 may be more capable in terms of colors or microcontrasts,
I also find panning wit my Sigma 50-500 and its OS instead of the K-1's in-body SR,
way superior to panning without in-lens stabilizer but sr turned on.

And not only that I would like to buy a more lightweight stabilised lens with a reach way above 200mm thats made for FF
... No! It also raises my hope to see something like a 150-600 also with an optical stabilizer built into the lens.
Or at least a Pentax version of the Tamron 28-300 Di VC PZD ... (which really is the finest do-it-all lens I ever used but its a shame the old Tamron for K-mount cant take a shower)
But whatever else will come ...,
looking at this development and all those lenses already presented in the vid,
This is fine and bright anniversary year!

Thank you PENTAX! Thank you so much. And HELLO to the forum.
