Precision Camera Repair - For Real?

I for one would love to hear an answer.

To repair a camera is a real lost passion, not many went into it years ago, even fewer now. Many of my peers were educated by Uncle Sugar, But that was Nikon F, Speed Graphics, and some M Leicas. The Navy had an incredible optical shop for periscopes, binoculars, and lenses.

So my answer is on this one over $800.00 .

Excellent history lesson, and a neat camera. 828 was unique as was Bakelite!

Now you need to up the game with another Bakelite wonder, the venerable brick, Argus C3!
Lots of fun and history also!

So it’s precisions fault you dropped your camera? Seriously??
So few brain cells used when wanting computer s fixed . My advice is go to school, learn optics, electronics, and computer technology, then you can fix it cheaper?

If you really want some Fun find an original pony camera. It was a 828 film, and was the first of the series, first camera I reassembled and functioned. And retensioning the mainspring is always there. Fun camera , looks great. If I remember the r/w shaft is soft, and can gall easily. I polished with a wire bristle and rubbed with dry Molly

If it’s had a bump, the mirror latch lever can unlatch. Same thought as above post, K1000 manual helps.
Usually you can retension the mirror charge lever without disassembly

Always a fan of pliobond.
Both surfaces need to be clean and bump free , follow the instructions for complete adhesion (both side’s)

As a bench tech, you wouldn’t believe the number of broken body castings I’ve seen by over tightening tripod screws. I’ve always had a rubber pad between them and always feel good about the stability. A locator pin would work well, but good luck having everyone adhere to a standard.

That’s light fog, look at the negatives and see if the stripes go through the perforations, if so a bad hinge seal is probably the culprit

I always used fresh masking tape. I will add a magnifier and dark cloth hood will make it easier to see.
The frosted side has to be on the film plane. Seeing things at infinity can be challenging if it’s not bright enough.

To test focus you need a ground glass.
Lay it frosted side towards lens, set shutter to B or T lock open and check focus. That’s how they were set up after service

Restoring lens accessory threads?

Yes there’s a tool for that.
I can’t put my fingers on it now, but all it is for practical purposes is a tap that has two flutes 180 degrees apart , mounted in a handle. If the ring has been rounded again you slide this in the threads it then cuts the spots out. The rings look rough, but usually hold a filter.

This is what snappy sells on the truck:

Serial number should be on the barrel.
Some had it on the name ring. If the name ring was replaced, no number will be on replacement

Yes.
Bridge does not have to cost a penny.
You can download the current version and use it free without an Adobe subscription.
Affinity is my go to now, so friendly to PA users.
