Those pictures don't look as good as my pixel 2 XL from 2017! They look overprocessed and HDRy! I am underwhelmed by the Pixel 6 camera atm.

You know you want the KP, who would want to use the plastic body K-70 with the Kp around. However, in marriage, you take what your wife gives you :p If she likes something you own, I recommend giving it to her readily so you can get brownie points that you can then use for other times you screw up or even cash it in for a second camera purchase down the line. If she is happy you will be happy :p On the flip side, if she is unhappy you can be kind of sure you will be :D At least in my experience loving women will try to get what you think they should not have, merely to prove a point :p Her desirability of the KP could be inversely proportional to how much you dont want her to have it, and thats out of love for you. Weird, eh? Finer points - sometimes they will hate the fact that you are judging whats right for them, as it is an indirect statement that your photography is more important than hers. They hate that kind of an assumption even if it could be true. They also hate selfishness as a general rule, so I recommend having none of it at all.
The thing is, my wife often keeps the best of things for herself when its something she likes more than me. I find it so cute that she is that comfortable with me. When its something I like more than her, she readily gives me the better of the two. If for instance, we order a chocolate brownie, she will just chug down 70% of it without concern, since she really loves it while for me its just a "oh, thats nice" kind of dish. However, if its a burger, she by herself will feed me generous bites of hers since I love burgers so much. So it goes both ways.

I think you are mistaken if you think the need for a buffer will be eliminated when we have internal sd cards. The technology is the same - inside or outside. If you want internal storage comparable to the buffer read/write speeds in a camera, then you'd have to shell out a LOT of money. Storage is exponentially expensive in relation to speed. An internal sd card would not eliminate need for a buffer. I remember nikon D500 has a slot with extra fast ssd storage, which almost writes as fast as buffer and those cards are hugely expensive. You will shell out the same extra money for internal ssd that is equally fast.
An internal sd card is simply a cost cutting and space saving measure as a physical port has more bill of materials, and expensive in terms of space and money to engineer. This is popular in smartphones where space is a premium.
I don't think the camera companies are sticking to sd because they always have, its just that it is a more practical solution. It offers a lot of advantages namely:
1. No matter the high level of reliability of ssd storage, some of those cameras will have early memory failure. Reliability is a statistical concept, it doesn't mean that more reliable storage would not fail for anyone - merely for a lesser number of people. However, if you do happen to be one of those people, replacing internal storage requires sending camera back to the company. Service centers are not equally available in all countries. I would hate to be in India (where i live), and have my new DSLR purchase rendered useless because service center here does not do on-board repairs. YOu will simply be told "motherboard replacement needed, XXX dollars. A whole board replaced due to one tiny fault in one component. SD card however, means I simply swap the bad one out at my home and continue using my DSLR.
2. Need to connect the camera to the computer via cable. All ports have lifetimes. They get loose, contacts get oxidized, etc. A typical dslr lasts much longer than a drone or a smartphone - over 20 years in some cases without faults. Having a connector as a point of failure, coupled with the unremovable memory, I would really not buy a DSLR without sd card if there are alternatives. In-fact, I want 2 sd card slots so my images are copied onto 2 removable media.
I would recommend not to confuse correlation with causation. Yes, SOME smartphones and drones have gone for internal storage where size, space, weight, cost are a constraint. DSLRs, these don't apply as much. These internal storage may be fast, no doubt, but it was not achieved with moving the ssd inside. It was likely achieved by putting faster memory on-board. The same could be done externally.
As a general rule, modular is better than integrated. Unfortunately electronics industry (which used to be highly modular) has moved away from that basic design principle, and we have the ignored, unmitigated problem of horrendous amount of electronic waste. How many phones have their entire motherboards replaced due to a failure of one diode? What would be replacing an IC is now replacing the whole board, which costs as much as the phone. Or iPhone repairs on newer models cameras? How many people without apple care plus would like to afford 70% of the cost of a new phone, for failure of one tiny component that could be easily replaced if the phone was of modular design? These companies are committing a crime - wasting earth's resources like they don't care. We just keep replacing electronics that could be repaired easily if designed right. Apple was the first to move to internal storage on iphones, and the company is in general notorious for blocking any attempts at independant repairs in as many ways as legally possible. Faulty iphones are not repaired even at the company - they are sent to a shredder where only a fraction of the materials can be recovered at a huge premium of resources - namely energy. Only metals are recovered that way, rather than fully usable, functional circuit parts that could be put on a different phone that came for repair.
Unfortunately, repair is such a laughable term these days for most consumer electronics, that we don't even think about it as our right anymore. I am all but thankful DSLR companies have stuck to what customers want, instead of pushing this overhead onto us for their bottom line.

The key concern right now I have is that the packaging box was badly pressed on one corner. This must mean that some load or impact was on the lens during shipment, at least enough to squish the coardboard corner completely. The lens was in a protective pouch. I cannot tell if this had any impact on the lens. Test shots look fine, I'll use it more and find out I guess. Always something or the other when buying used :/ Quite a hassle. But in any case, happy with my purchase. USD 220 for what seems to be a completely unused lens seems like a good deal to me going off of ebay prices. Seller is also nice and responsive towards everything.
Lets see!

Focus peaking works but the auto-fire shutter when in focus feature doesn't work in MF mode. The camera needs to be in autofocus mode for that feature to work. It is convenient as I can take many images quickly with that method, rather than risking camera shake between focussing and firing the shutter.

All this people trying to break the camera makes me really scared. I love my K- ii and cannot afford a replacement. I would hate it if someone broke it. Damn. Street photography worries I had were real. I'll just stick to shooting during travel and in the home or on the terrace.
I'm TINY, tiny and chubby and almost always smiling. I cannot for the love of god try to intimidate someone off my case.

So I have been playing with my recent purchase, and thought a few quirks warranted your thoughts:
1. The lens has a typical AF when using the K-1 viewfinder. I can hear the "whirring" as the barrel goes in and out to focus, no problem. However, in live-view, the focussing is super slow. The mechanism really takes its time to focus. Sometimes, it hunts all the way and then comes back quite fast to the point where it had found focus. its very smooth, but very slow. Is this normal? The slower focus in live-view for this lens, versus viewfinder?
2. I need to put the camera in manual, AND lens in manual for full manual operation. What happens if I leave it in AF in the camera, and use the lens in manual mode? I ask because having the camera in AF mode is the only way to get focus peaking. But I feel quite a bit of resistance from the camera unless I flip the K1 switch to MF. Seems like the internal autofocus, screw drive, is engaging in AF mode. Is it harmful for the lens to over-ride the resistance and use focus peaking?
3. The focus ring is quite smooth, not as much resistance as my K-1 28-105. Is this normal too? I don't see any focus creep in shots (will confirm second time as well) but it seems the resistance from focussing ring is quite less.

I just procured a Tamron SP-AF Di 90mm f/2.8 macro lens from ebay for my Pentax K-1 for 160 GBP (220 USD) + 29 GBP (39 USD) Shipping. Excited to be owning my first macro lens! The reason I went with this was owner claimed that the lens was "as-new, very mildly used and he is selling because he can no longer use DSLRs". So far the lens seems great. I see 0 marks optically anywhere in the lens except a tiiiny spot on the outside of the rear element (has no imact on images even at small apertures, maybe it'll go away on using cleaning solution. Cant tell what it is though, its not dust or fungus or dirt). Front element and middle elements are clean. No marks or scuffs anywhere on the lens. The caps and pouches have 0 dust. There are no signs of usage at all. Every corner or edge is clean. Very clearly this lens was sitting in some shelf in its box, or taken very good care of by the owner. I also took some images and they look pin sharp. Quite surprised how sharp this lens is - think it gives my 28-105 WR a run for the money!
However, I would like to be sure. To the experienced buyers of used camera equipment - how do you check a lens THOROUGHLY for its condition to find any flaws whatsoever? Is there some checklist for mechanical and optical checks? What about things like focus creep, front or back focussing issues, etc?
I just want to cover all bases and not have anything to luck.

Might I know what is the use case for a DSLR for you? What is it that your DSLR can do but not the phone? Just curious.
Also I dont know if I am right but isnt GR3 waterproof? Underwater shooting is one area where point and shoots still thrive.

You know in your heart, some things are just close to it :) Like Pentax K-1 ii for example! Even two years after owning it, this thing brings me absolute joy. I sometimes just look at it feeling "content". Yes, every camera takes great pictures. I have taken many pictures on my Pixel 2 also that I cherish.
But as a Pentax customer, I am delighted. Something to cherish in a product and about a brand. The delight stems from just how dependable the camera is. And what a fun experience taking pictures is. It makes me "want" to take more pictures. And thats awesome!

As an owner of K-1 ii I grab literally every opportunity to shoot literally anything inside the house (including showers, broken eggs, thumbtacks or oildrops). I use it on every trip I can as well. Its just that much fun to use. Having taken part in the Single In Challenge, I am spending at least some time every day with my camera. And spend even more time lurking on the pentaxforums.
So last night I was getting my shot of the day just before I hit the bed (around 2 AM). In the night, I had a detailed dream, so vivid I could swear it was real. I was in a train, traveling with my Pentax gear, and another photographer was shooting out of the window in the next berth. I asked what he uses, he said something from the Canon EOS R series. He hands me the camera, and I was just feeling it and feeling weird at how it felt somewhat imbalanced and somehow, ergonomically "weird" (no hate, it was just a feeling and that too in a dream you know). The experience was so real however, that I was having to hold it tighter and use friction so it doesn't slip, somewhat like trying to hold a pizza slice, something thats not quite as claspable. I told him, hey, I have the K-1 from Pentax, you should check it out. I hand him the camera, and immediately his eyes light up as he feels how solid it feels in hand. And then I was like you know, it takes great images too. He takes a shot inside a moving train, and he is like, wait, how did that not shake at 1/60? I told him its got 6 axis shake reduction, X Y Z AND roll pitch and yaw (don't know if its correct, should be 5 axis no? Eh well, dreams a dream). He was like WHAAAA and I was like yeah. And they make solid lenses too, removing and giving him my 28-105 lens as he held it in his hand, felt the pleasing and "just right" weight of it. We both marvelled at the high ISO performance. Showed him how customizable the camera is, how the menus just make "sense" (not like Canon which gives its own terminologies for many standard technologies such as metering modes). He said he will obviously still use his Canon, its a great camera. I was like of course, they all make excellent cameras no doubt. He was however very amused and impressed by what all Pentax had gotten right, a brand he never had paid too much attention to before. He was like you have a lovely camera. I said yup, SO proud of it and love it very very much.
We both were wide smiles. Went on our separate ways after discussing photography a little bit. Then I woke up. I am almost sad that the conversation was not real, but I felt so happy at the end of it anyway!
Btw, I woke up smiling like an idiot when the house maid showed up (she has keys), she was like, looking very happy today. I said yup, had one of the best conversations ever ;)

Can you point out some objective available way to quantify color rendition of one lens versus other? On the forums it is often mentioned limited lenses have ‘pixie dust’ in them. It is to indicate that people love the image renderings with this lens. So what openly available literature defines which lens, A vs B, has an objectively better color rendering and by how much?

If you use 1:1 mode, it will almost fully cover the usable pixels. The center crop on K1 is designed to be usable with all DA lenses, so likely it has the center APS-C Dimensions which happens to have 16MP resolution. If the K1 was 50MP, you'd have around 24mp of an aps-c in that dimension.
It doesn't matter to be honest. Just shoot with your 55-300 and crop later in post. Ignore the vignetting you'll get used to it soon.

I'll be honest I have a rather silly reason to want a lens - I really want a heavy lens on my K-1 to have some heft and want to experience that heft while shooting images. I now have the DA 50 f/1.8 and it takes great images. I also have the 28-105mm kit lens which I got with the camera and that too is awesome. I was desperate for some reach when in a pinch so I got a very old 100-300mm lens from a Russian but its a very nice copy (0 autofocus creep even after many years), paint is nice and its well worn / used but smooth and functional. However, all these lenses are "light". The 28-105 is my heaviest lens and even that looks puny on my K-1. I want the big lenses, the heavy feel of operating one, and having that heft to hold.
Yes, I hear myself and its a very stupid reason. So obviously cannot spend any serious money on it - especially since I cannot afford any lenses from here in India, shipping alone jacks up the cost by $20-60 in a country where the monthly income is puny. Therefore, nicer glass like the DFA 24-70 f/2.8 are kind of out of question at the moment. Additionally, I incurred some personal expenses and definitely do not have money for quality new glass, even the 100 WR Macro.
So what are my options? Some other points :
1. I would not want a long range telephoto. Not only these cost a lot of money, my Nikon D5300 and 70-300 AF-P lens have okayish reach and insanely fast autofocus performance and tracking. Why fix what aint broke.
2. I would personally like a macro lens, or something in the 15-20mm focal length. These two needs are not met with my current lenses.
3. Image quality should be top notch - the affordability of lens should come from it being a good deal rather than IQ compromises. Being used to the 28-105 lens's quality, I would hate it if something produced dirty images.
4. The more situations the lenses is usable in, the better. I don't take much portraits unfortunately, so not looking for a portrait lens. But if it is portrait + macro then I'd love such a lens too.
Now with this very challenging set of criteria, I would love some recommendations from you experienced pentaxians on options (if any) that may exist!

Haha thats very harsh Mr. Normhead. I'd rather we'd not debate who is right or wrong, but rather what is right and what is wrong (Avoid ad-hominems, so to speak). But yeah....I havent seen practical examples of how APS-Cs are worse. I have in-fact, experienced the opposite. To add to it there are a bunch of iPhone 13 Pro vs Sony A7IV, APS-C vs Full Frame, etc. comparisons on youtube that do a great job of highlighting just how little the difference is today in many situations, and what extent we have to go to to get differences. Yet to find practical evidence to the contrary for the claim that Full Frames are better than APS-Cs. Other than technical charts, little evidence of an APS-C vs Full Frame, such as K3 III vs the K-1.
For the point that Full Frame produces better images on the same glass - I strongly disagree for anything but old glass. Glass designed for APS-Cs does just as great a job, at lower the price, than on a full-frame. Examples - Nikon AF-P 70-300, a bunch of Pentax's own DA lenses versus their FA counterparts, etc. APS-Cs have higher pixel density, needs glass with more resolving power. Modern lenses have that. But modern lenses are cheaper if they only cover DX circle, versus the same spec FX counterparts.

Ah I tried reading your explanation several times and still trying to wrap my head around it. Please help me understand, what I got so far is:
1. At 6MP, the DS has a 1.11inch sensor while the K5 cropped has a smaller sensor area to represent 6 megapixels. This indicates that individual pixel is smaller on the K5 than the DS. Is this correct?
2. The 6MP image from DS has more details than the cropped K5. The post from Ian claims that this is representative of seeing 24MP of APS-C versus 24MP of Full Frame. Since 24MP of Full Frame has more area, the quality of images from 24MP full-frame will be better.
So far is this correct? If yes, I have one further question:
1. Is a comparison made at 6MP true at 24MP? Is law of diminishing returns not at play? While on paper or at 100% scale there may be fine amount of extra detail captured by the full-frame sensor, does this lead to "practically" different images? In my experience, I haven't felt crippled by an APS-C versus the K-1 ii full frame, and I use both almost everyday. What is technically true, is not practically important - that is my learning. Which is why I based my decisions to use the Pentax K-1 ii on handling of the camera, controls it provides, and the reputed image quality it produces, instead of technicalities such as back-sensor illumination, megapixels, and whatnot. These were endless. Actually speaking resolution wise, the D850 from Nikon beat even my K-1 ii (and it was noticeable at 100% scale). However, I couldn't care less as the K-1ii was a splendid camera which provided a great shooting experience and I loved its image quality anyway. Pixel peeping was going to add zero value to the image.

Aren't screens inferior to displaying the dynamic range that the cameras, even the APS-Cs, are able to capture? If so, then I would argue that there is very little that an APS-C cannot do that a full-frame can, since you are going to compress the dynamic range while displaying on a consumer screen anyway. So if you correctly expose, you should end up with similar results. Worst case, a 2-3 image HDR should solve it. Wonder if HDR displays change that, and we can observe the more subtle differences between images taken with various formats.
