85mm is widely considered to be the optimal focal length for portraits from head and shoulders to full body. The f/1.4 versions are great, but the usefulness of that ultra-thin depth of field is over-rated.
The M 85/2.0 is well regarded, compact, and quite affordable. I reckon it would be a perfect match for your K1000.

This ^ ^ ^
The matter of this phenomenon being reported across a broad range of camera models and multiple lenses is an indication that it is probably not a KP issue. FWIW, I have never seen such on my K-3, but my usual subjects usually do not require shooting into even a sliver of full sun with exposure set to EV100 10.5 (appropriate for shortly after sunset landscapes) as in the example above.* (Was AE Lock engaged in a recompose scenario? Several stops + EC? There is no way that Av mode would have left the shutter speed at 1/30s with matrix metering on the KP.)
The closest thing I could find in the review was the "strong flare" noted for sun at edge of frame (LINK). Flare with strong color is not unusual in general, even on film. At this point, I think we are talking mostly about flare tendencies of lenses prone to this sort of thing and very little about the KP.

As far as I understand the lens has to be wide or you have to provoke flare. I have also heard that ff lenses on crop bodies are more prone as light ends up where it shouldn't be.
Flare means light is bouncing around inside the lens hitting the sensor at angles it wasnt designed to handle.
So yes the lens is a big part of the equation. Presumably sensor stacks micro lenses etc also impact the performance.

I've encountered that issue with my K-S2 with Highlight or Shadow Protection enabled. I've turned those off ever since and underexpose by 2/3 of a stop most of the time with most lenses, no issue for me since I like to take the time to process the RAW files afterwards anyways. But in changing lighting conditions I have to see and think for myself to adapt accordingly, so sometimes I make use of more or less exposure compensation. Maybe I should try those modes for a while to see if it can help me prevent some mishaps in those situations for the cost of losing ISO 100?

OP is asking about long term storage, and that's the only thing I'm talking about. A controlled environment is a feature you are adding yourself, which is unnecessary. It is sufficient to allow some ventilation to prevent most problems.

This should stop you from wanting to spend a pile of money.
All 4 of these were shot at the great equalizer f stop (f8) and are 100% crops.
Do note that this could be all lenses are equal at f/8 or all lenses look equally bad when I shoot with them. M85 A*85 FA 77 DFA* 85 ---------- Post added Feb 23rd, 2021 at 01:19 PM ----------
My understanding was that the M40 was pretty much built for the ME/ ME Super, which were very tiny bodies. An ME Super with a 40/2.8 could be carried in a jacket pocket without being overly noticeable. The focus ring takes some getting used to, but on the ME bodies, it's a nice compact lens as a carry around.

70.87mm is the official Pentax 645 flange focal distance. I don't see how it could be different for film and 645D/Z, as the lenses are the same.

I really wish the "No Card in Camera" would appear prominently upon start up, BEFORE I walked far from my camera bag and tried to capture a once-in-a-lifetime image.

I found a very nice accessory that easily lets me use my Z/D as a mirror-less live view camera. This gives me the joy of composing off a ground glass, and, as a hooded waist or hooded eye level viewer with or without it's glass magnifier like the old Rollie/Hasselblad. I can change over to the optical viewer in just 2sec, if I want too. I also get to use Peek focus and custom data within the screen view.
I tested the focus accuracy between the optical, focus peek and glass magnifier and all are within the same
focus plane, as it should be.
I also find it very nice using this accessory on and off the tripod. Hand held worked very well with it's, "greatly" brighter,
ground glass view in very dark situations. I find it a pleasure to use and rate construction and usability at 4.5 of 5 stars.
Since this Pentax also has a great optical viewer, with focus alert, I find the Pentax645z/d to be an even better value then other similar systems. What an underrated camera!
Here is the link (below), but, i did two modifications that i believe you have to do. Otherwise this thing just does not work properly.

I would set the white balance to 5000K manually and not use auto white balance. Shoot in RAW. I think I'd shoot in Av mode with ISO set to auto. And when in doubt, under-expose, and push in post.
Hopefully others see this thread and add information / opinions to weigh.

Hello,
Last few weeks have been really hectic. Dealing with a lot of personal stuff including my father's health which is deteriorating. I haven't been very active with any of the hobbies but at least working on something, even if only a few minutes a week, helps me recharge.
By now you know I like to tinker with old cameras. The Pentax MX is considered by many the ultimate mechanical SLR along with the LX. It is still very popular.
I got a non-working MX on eBay. Not sure if I can get it back to work but it will be a learning experience as I've never worked on anything newer than K1000.
While "mechanical" it is far more complex than earlier models. And scarily so.
This is what I got:
Mirror stuck in the up position
buckled curtains. That looks serious...
Started disassembly without any clue of what to look for
While working to remove the mirror box, something went "Clack" and the curtain closed. "Huh? What the...?"
My instinct told me to put everything back together. So I did and in the process, I resoldered the wires to the aperture coupler metering circuit.
These will not win any solder joint beauty contest, but the meter now works!
Putting everything together, the camera "worked" at 1/60s. But at other speeds it randomly got stuck. But something was not right. Can't explain it but it sounded "weird". That was when I noticed upon close inspection the curtains are not in the right place!
This camera has been tampered with and assembled wrong! ( That's MY job!)
However, since the curtains are the most inner parts, everything needs to be taken apart.
Here is where we are now after desoldering some wires to allow the mirror box out of the way: To boldly go where I've never been before!
This is a very long term project. I honestly don't have much hope this may ever be a functional camera again, but I'm just having fun.
Thanks,
|

@paulh: Those Green leaves, Red blossoms and Blue water make a nice test for your *ist D Bayer filter. :) Boats are photogenic.
Here's a shot from under a railway bridge, taken during my yesterday's walk blessed with an unexpected sunlight. An overcast day had been forecasted. Not so far from that teepee. K100D + Sigma Hyperzoom again. |

Yes, Georg, the T4 mounts, whether Soligor or Vivitar, were all Tokina made, as far as I've been able to figure. Hin, I don't know of any list of Soligor serial numbers, perhaps they didn't systematize that way, perhaps they did. One of the Remaining Mysteries... I wonder, if someone could get a grant to ferret out the marketing etc details of the 70s and 80s SLR boom, for a dissertation and online database? Stimulus package, where are you! Meanwhile, to get you Tak fans off the ledge, or to put down the pitchforks:
Here the focus is more comparable, though the Takumar shot has slightly more exposure than the Soligor side.
At f/5.6 I'd say approximately even, the Soligor has that Tokina cool color, though very sharp. The Tak has the better color, slight edge in contrast...

Another round of comparing these two lenses, looking at the bokeh etc and not just sharpness. This time around, sharpness/detail wise, the Takumar edges the Soligor, but I'll leave the rest to everyone's eyes.
I did my best to focus on the same thing for each lens. I note the Soligor consistently has slower shutter speeds than the Tak, probably due more to lighting conditions (clouds) than difference in absolute speed. Though at 5.6 the Soligor maybe has a slightly deeper DOF.

Frederic, perfect as always...
Small question, I might be asking that already godzillion years ago - signatures: "FF Mode • 400 ISO • Sigma Art 18-35mm F1.8 DC HSM" you generate them with some script or put it manually?

I'll give him my Soly as soon as you give me your DA560mm Frederic. ;):p
Ready for my shipping info? :D

Depending on the film cassette (whether it’s notched or not) I believe the auto 110 treats the film as 400 or 80 I believe. I think 100 and 200 iso film is considered close enough to be shot as 80 with good results.
I think non perf film or single perf film are preferable to double perf. ---------- Post added 12-07-20 at 09:08 PM ---------- Filmphotographystore and some
Other film retailers sell bulk non-perforated 16mm film which would work well. I think they have 100 iso stuff in stock

I like jumping spiders. This one was scouting from behind the window lock in our bedroom.
Behind the Lock by k kwb, on Flickr
This was shot with Q7, Vivitar Series 1 VMC F2.5 macro for Canon FD mount at F/9, and a dedicated Vivitar 1:1 Macro adapter which I think is a 2x teleconverter, therefore combined with the lens it's F/18 in reality (!!).
BTW, this might be a good example of why I don't worry too much about blurring due to diffraction. I like this picture anyway even if this is not THE sharpest picture I can take with my existing lenses in theory.
