K-30 internal battery / capacitor replacement for clock

..p.s.
Only to mention, I was looking for a broken K30 because of the damned battery hook problem, that fell apart probably because of my intensive use of those AA high-mA (and more heavyweight) rechargeable cells.
Ended up repairing this white one body (I just couldn't resist, it seemed such a pity..) and managed to "create" a "new" hook from some old plastic part debris and molding it in some way. Awful result but fully functional 😄.
The real pity is Pentax doesn't provide any spare parts for free sale anymore, only through official repair assistance. So you have to look for dead items, but often at higher than acceptable pricing.

Greetings to the forumers

F.

Hello "Photogem", very kind of you, thank you so much :)!

For what is worth, my 621s from Amazon (two ones for about 3 euros if I recall) came in the greatly appreciated made in Japan guise, but I can't confirm the same seller would now send them from other batches around the world, probably Chinese as you mentioned. I'm looking for the link anyways, in case someone would try that.

Looking forward to your tutorial then! I appreciate them very much.

I.e., this white K30 comes very cheap (maybe 40euros) from this forum: the seller, a very kind person, tried to repair it for the known solenoid issue, but did not succeed (he put in a white one, but it was just in worse conditions, very "loose" mechanically, than the old green one).
I just followed your very detailed indications on the subject(s) and succeeded.
There were other problems anyway, the said backup cell completely dried and the loss of every one of the original screws (unfortunately they got missed in action because of some not better specified female house-cleaning event during the seller's first attempt, what a.. misfortune!). I managed to find them, but it has been a long trick ..good to see you just shared an useful photo-link on the argument 👌

Hello,
only to let you (k30 aficionados maybe, I still am in some way) know one useful backup battery substitute for Seiko ms414 is indeed the ms621 (fe), (same 3v, higher than 414 capacity, maybe it is the same as the "612" reported here, I don't know if that is just a typo, or an actual different model), easy to find on Amazon, also.
I just wanted to point out one should be aware that, once installed in place of the old 414, the replacement 621 battery thickness exceeds the 414's, to the point it comes in contact with the inner metal plate-part of the back cover (on the right of the LCD apparatus), when put back in place.

So it is mandatory to isolate (the battery itself, or the camera metal shade, or both) with some insulating tape or similar purpose material, prior to reassembling. Not doing it will (maybe because of short circuiting the backup battery itself) lead to a rapid discharge of the main battery through it. In that case, one would notice some sensible heat dissipation (by the mentioned inner metal plate structure) on the back camera cover, just under the back function wheel (and on the upper right of the LCD panel), in correspondence of the ms621 inner position.

Unfortunately I don't have a true clarifying pic on the very subject, these following ones are the only ones where the said parts are in some way visible, sorry :]

Greetings to all

Hello,
I've been reading here for years and always found the forum of the greatest interest and fun, and sometimes felt to have something to add to the conversation. So I made the last step in the end.

[K30 owner from years, with nearly everyone of the known issues incurred with time (by the way, huge thanks to "photogem" for his articles/nothing best to say to the italian Pentax "assistance" instead), now KP and..little (in every way) mft gear from a some dark side brand, very useful with (several, being "here" from nearly 25 years) Pentax lenses.]

Anyway,
Greetings from Italy :]
Filippo
