2 Milky Way Shots, 2 Lenses, same settings: your thoughts?

Not straight AutoWB but Multi-Auto WB. And, as it’s astrophoto, I shoot in raw to get more room to post-process. Here I modified the WB to match. If i remember correctly (as I can’t verifiy at the moment) the Samyang one to match the Pentax one. This should give the same colors, right? And as it didn’t, That’s a reason for my post.

Thanks for the information! Now, I’m tempted to do a similar comparison (with more control over it) with one of my other lenses with comparable specs like the limited 20-40, both at 20 or more!

Thanks for your thoughts! I didn’t thought to look at histogram. And I may try a better and more informative comparison with controled light. Is there a better way to do it? Like, apart same aperture, like 1 or 2 sec is better than 1/500s? I never done something like that.

Indeed, it could be out of focus. I confirmed focus with LiveView at 100% on a bright star. But the Samyang is much more precised.
But I don’t think it could change colours, right?

Sorry, my bad, but the A mode on the lens is just the way to control aperture from the camera.
I shoot in B mode and set iso / shutter speed and timer myself.

Both lens with shade, yes. An I post processed both shots with the exact same settings. Same white balance (sooc there were slighlty differents), and then moved exposure, contrast, etc. With exact same numbers. Perhaps I’m wrong to think that it will affect the two shits in the same way?

Thanks for all your thoughts, it surpassed my knowledge!

Thanks for your feedback, I can’t really decide which one I prefer. The colour of the first is, indeed, more life like, but I like the details in the milky way of the secound
For the tree, it may be due to the wind. Don’t think It’s the lens

I agree but : same aperture (Samyang lens was in A mode so control by the camera) and same exposute time (90s if i’m correct) and the exif proved it. I don’t think that any more light came by the left corner, but can’t be absolutely sure 😅

Hi guys,

Last night I decided to shoot the Milky Way. Usually, I use the Samyang 16mm f2 to have more light. But this year, I won a OGPS2 (thanks agin Pentax Europe for the insta contest) and I bought a Pentax 16-85mm for travelling purpose.

I now have to wide angle lenses and decided to make a quick comparison. Thanks to the GPS unit I managed to have the exact same settings : iso800, f4,5 and 90s.

In post, I did the exact same modifications, especially white balance are identical. Yet, colors are quite differents (Samyang have a yelloish tint and Pentax have a blue one) and I don't really know why : the coating? the differences in diaphragms (Samyang start at 2 and Pentax 16-85 @16mm start at 3,5)? changes in the light (6 minutes separate the shots)?

The Mighty Pentax community will have an answer that will enrich my understanding!

Thanks for your time!

Few days ago, I drove my car in the morning for the only purpose to photograph birds. I went to a lake which also is a ornithological reserve.

Unfortunately, I didn't manage to shoot birds on the lake because I was a little short at 300mm.

Anyway, it was still a beautifull sunny walk and the trees around the lake allowed me to photograph several beautifull little birds.

Hope you will enjoy it!

Thanks for your comment!

Thanks for your comment! I try hard to keep these natural colors. I still think that this second one could have been clearer but the ISO were were quite high to keep a fast shutter speed.

I work from home and I see my garden from my desck. I always have an eye on birds that come and go. I can't help myself. I have my camera nearby to get used to the settings in bird photography. And this blackbird has his nest in my neighbourd bush so it's a great subject! Hope you'ill enjoy it!

Thanks for your comment! I tried to keep colors as natural as possible in PP. I tried a first version that doesn't feel real with a second look.

Thanks for your assessment! It's a fun lens to play with in term of photographic opportunity and point of view. I'm currently looking for a inexpensive way to get closer to the ground in order to catch the best of these little flowers.

Hello from France,

I'm new to Pentax Forum, but I read it since few years now. I began with a Kr and I'm now shooting with a K70. This summer I'm more interested in film photography. I own a ME and looking to try more film camera (MX/KX/Super A) and rolls.

Thanks for this great community!
