Enquiry on Pixel Shift

Hello everybody,

I would like to ask about the pixel shift option. I guess I am not using it properly or maybe it’s because of the darkness, but I noticed that sometimes when using the Pixel Shift I get green reflections instead of yellow ones. There are also pink spots where they shouldn’t be, so I would guess that it’s because of something similar to fringing, just that it's very visible and impacts bigger areas. I tried to desaturize them, but it is not that effective, because I cannot desaturize only that greenish colour: the slider reacts to the yellow, but not to the green and pink ones.

Furthermore, last time I have been taking a long exposure picture in the evening when it was rather dark. Maybe this had to do with it or something else, but the photo looks like a corrugated paper (see the pictures attached, especially of the houses and the sky). Could somebody help me in understanding why this has happened? I add you the link to some pictures (via links to thumbnails, because I am out of space). Thank you!

Advice on getting a flash

I have a Pentax K-3ii. :)

---------- Post added 03-20-23 at 12:38 PM ----------

I had for some short time the Metz 52 af-1, but something kind of 'exploded' inside and the guys at the repair center told me that they would have to change the main circuit, so it might be better to buy a new device. Therefore, when I actually have to buy it (because I had the old one for free), I started looking at the better options. Having had a flash for a very limited time, I did not explore its possibilities and I am still a newbie that looks for something rather universal, more suitable for outdoors. I understand that TTL is just for the beginning, but I am a complete newbie, so maybe it would be a good to have this option to start with.

I have to say that I am very grateful for everybody who participates in this discussion. Especially for being helpful in a very friendly way. :)

Advice on getting a flash

Dear fellow Pentaxians,

I have been reading a lot about the different pros and coins of various models of the external flashes, but at this point it got even more confusing. I don't have a lot of experience in flash photography, though I had done some experimenting in the last few months and I would like to buy one long-lasting external TTL flash for myself. I am looking for a universal flash for my Pentax K-3ii and I would appreciate your advice on what to get. I would like to make a smart investment. From what I read, it seems that the most appreciated of the good models are: 1) Pentax AF540FGZ II; 2) Metz 58 af-2; 3) Metz 52 af-1; 4) Pentax AF360FGZ II.

I understand this is a widely discussed topic, though I would really appreciate your opinion. Please let me know what is currently considered to be the best option and why? Thank you!

Thank you for clearing this up! I have always wondered why sometimes the noise is not too evident, whereas at times it's very noticible, as in these cases!

Sensor noise on K3?

Hello everybody,

I have recently noticed that using my K3 I get a lot of noise on 100% crop. Would like to check with you if this is just me or is it normal for this camera to act like this? Haven't noticed before, but maybe I just haven't played with crop as frequently. These are few snapshots I took from 100% crop. ISO is only 100, no digital post-production was made. I understand there might be some digital noise, but isn't it this a bit too much for a 100% crop on K-3 ii? Would appreciate your insights.

Cleaning the lens of something

Dear everybody! Thank you very much for your help - after struggling for a while with removing the name ring I have successfully cleaned fungus using the solution of peroxide and amonia. The lens is free of this problem. The fungus was on both rear and front element, so I took everything apart and managed to put everything together back in order! I am very happy about my experiment and it is this forum that I have to thank for this.

Though now there is another problem I cannot solve - I am not able to clean it well for it to be transparent. There are always some small particles of dust (see the pictures), and I am almost giving up on this task, because I cannot control them. It is dust for sure, not something else, since they move. Though I cannot clean it completely, because the new ones always emerge from the cloth fibres that I clean it with. For now I have tried antibacterial lens cleaning wet wipes, several new and sealed microfiber wipes, all of this accompanied by a good air blower and a baloon of compressed air. I have also tried using a new lenspen, though it always creates more smudges than there were in the first place. I even tried the dslr sensor cleaning brush (quite expensive option, but seemed to be working for a while - maybe there is some charge that attracts the particles or something similar).

Any ideas how to get rid of this small dust? The air blower blows away only the bigger particles, but these small ones seem to be adhered to the glass more firmly and since they are small, I can only move them to some extent, but not remove completely. Looks like they have a static charge to the glass. Would you have any advice for solving this problem? I am a bit out of options and would appreciate any help. Thank you once again!

Hello guys, thank you very much for your help. I have just received my lens and ordered the spanner wrench. I are however, that the fungus is present on the front lens as well. But there is no place for spanner wrench in the front. How can I remove the element in the front? Thank you once again, I'll let you know how it goes :)
